Applications for Balcony and Long Room passes open at 9.00am on the Monday two weeks prior to each round, and close at 5.00pm on the Tuesday prior to the match. Applications will be processed in order of receipt and are accepted via the MCC website or email. There is a limit of 10 successful advanced applications per member for the full season. Members who do not collect their allocated passes on more than one occasion without providing prior notice to the Club will be excluded from making further applications. Any passes not allocated in advance will be available for collection on match day from the ticket window on the left hand side of Gate 2.     The Vietnam Swans’ Inaugural ANZAC Friendship Match, 2010 Vung Tau, Vietnam 23-25 April ANZAC Day and football The first ANZAC Day commemorations took place in Australia, New Zealand, England and Egypt on April 25, 1916, one year after the initial landings at Gallipoli. During 1916, April 25 was officially named “ANZAC Day” by the Australian government. In 1995, the inaugural ANZAC Day match between Collingwood and Essendon was played at the MCG. ANZAC Day, footy, Asia ANZAC Day and footy have a growing tradition in Asia. Last year, the Vietnam Swans were invited to play in the Thailand Tigers’ 6th ANZAC Day Match in Kanchanaburi, Thailand - in front of three ex POWs. The venue of the match was 5kms from the Kanchanaburi War Cemetery; and 50kms from WWII’s infamous Hellfire Pass on the Burma Death Railway. Statistics re the Vietnam / American War 1964 - 1975 Vietnam – Approx 1 million combatants and 4 million civilians killed US – 2.7million served, 58,261 killed, 303,000 wounded Australia - 60,000 served, 521 killed, 3,000 wounded NZ – 57 killed, 212 wounded But would it be appropriate for the Vietnam Swans to host an ANZAC Day footy match?     Kevin Sheedy Legendary AFL Player & Coach, Keynote Speaker Kevin Sheedy is a legend of the Australian Football League. A player and coach for over five decades, he has an unsurpassed record of involvement in 1,000 games including eight premierships. In high demand as a keynote speaker, Kevin relates well with men and women from all walks of life. Drawing on his experiences, he delivers entertaining, relevant and valuable insights into building talented teams. During 1967 and 1979 Kevin played 251 games at Richmond Football Club (RFC), where he played in Premiership teams in 1969, 1973 and 1974. He was skills coach when RFC won the 1980 Premiership. In 1981 he was appointed Senior Coach at Essendon Football Club(EFC) where he coached for a record 635 matches during 27 years of continuous coaching. During that time EFC competed in 19 final series and won premierships in 1984, 85, 93 and 2000. The club also won six night grand finals. In 2015 Kevin returned to EFC as General Manager, Commercial Development and Innovation. Kevin was the ‘All Australian” coach in 1984, 1985, 1993 and 2000. He was the State of Origin Coach in 1984 and 1985 and a successful Coach of the International Rules teams in 2005 and 2006. In 1996, in an effort to highlight the sacrifices made by our service personnel, Kevin initiated the ANZAC Day Match between the Essendon and Collingwood AFL Clubs. He felt that as the years past, the younger generation were losing sight of the history attached to this solemn day. Together with assistance of the Collingwood Club and the Victorian RSL, the match was approved and is now seen as second only to the Grand Final on the AFL yearly calendar with an average 90,000 spectators.
