Iron Maiden: the Beast on the Road Tour 2 D'abril De 1982 Palau Municipal D'esports De Barcelona It's only rock & roll | Pep Saña | Actualitzat el 04/01/2017 a les 06:00 Iron Maiden: The Beast On The Road Tour 2 d'Abril de 1982 Palau Municipal d'Esports de Barcelona Corria l'any 1981 i Iron Maiden era una banda relativament gran després d'editar dos discos molt bons, Iron Maiden (1980) i Killers (1981), fins i tot havien fet de teloners per Kiss a la seva gira europea de 1980 i tornaven d'una gira en solitari pel Japó aquell mateix any que recollirien en un EP en directe titulat Maiden Japan. Però l'estil de vida d'excessos amb l'alcohol i les drogues que tenien física i psicològicament desgastat al fins aquell moment cantant Paul Di' Anno estava començant a posar en seriós perill la contínua ascensió de la banda i això era una cosa que el seu fundador, Steve Harris no estava disposat a consentir. La conseqüència d'aquests excessos va portar a Paul Di' Anno a ser expulsat de la banda. El seu substitut seria Bruce Dickinson, la veu més potent i enèrgica que ha donat Anglaterra i conegut amb el sobrenom d' Air Raid Siren, sirena d'atac antiaeri. Steve Harris juntament amb el manager d' Iron Maiden Rod Smallwood van anar personalment a veure'l al concert de Samson (banda en la que cantava aleshores) al festival de Reading al 1981 (a l'any següent repetiria en el mateix festival però com a cantant d' Iron Maiden i de caps de cartell, arrasant davant unes 35.000 persones) i no molts dies més tard es convertia en el nou cantant de la banda. Després d'uns quants shows d'escalfament a Holanda i Itàlia havia demostrat que ser cantant dels Maiden era el seu lloc natural, per qualitats, força, carisma i actitud. Amb aquest canvi , la banda al complet es tanca a l'estudi per gravar el que seria el seu tercer disc al desembre d'aquell mateix any amb Martin Birch a la producció. El tercer treball dels britànics Iron Maiden titulat The Number Of The Beast, va arribar a numero 1 de les llistes angleses, però al mateix temps acompanyat de polèmica, sobretot a Estats Units on van ser acusats de satànics, produint-se manifestacions i censura als mitjans quan van visitar el país durant la gira del disc que la van titular com Beast On The Road. A pesar d'això, l'èxit d' Iron Maiden era ja imparable a nivell mundial. The Number Of The Beast (1982) The Number Of The Beast va ser el primer disc de la banda en el que no tenien material previ composat a diferencia de com va passar en els 2 anteriors. Steve Harris va dir en una entrevista mes endavant que tota aquesta pressió segurament va beneficiar-los d'alguna manera, i vaja si ho va fer, perquè d'aquelles sessions de gravació en va sortir un dels millors discos de la història del Heavy Metal. L'àlbum es va enllestir en 5 setmanes, no sense certs ?problemes? com a mínim misteriosos, llums que s'encenen i apaguen soles, gravacions que desapareixen, equips que es trenquen misteriosament, fins tot el seu famós productor Martin Birch pateix un accident de cotxe en que la factura dels danys puja a 666 lliures (en va pagar 667), el que contribueix a engrandir la llegenda del disc. Els temes de l'àlbum inclouen veritables himnes de la banda, com la homònima The Number Of The Beast, Hallowed Be Thy Name o Run To The Hills. Van dubtar amb la inclusió de Gangland o Total Eclipse, quedant finalment la primera a l'àlbum i la segona com cara B del single de Run To https://www.naciodigital.cat/bergueda/noticia/8434/iron-maiden-beast-road-tour-abril-1982-palau-municipal-esports-barcelona Pagina 2 de 8 The Hills, tot i que posteriorment es van penedir d'aquesta decisió. Aquest single va sortir al mercat el 12 de febrer de 1982, aconseguint la setena posició a les llistes. Del disc es va publicar un segon single el 26 d'abril de 1982, ja amb l'àlbum al carrer, incloïa a la cara A el tema The Number Of The Beast i a la B Remember Tomorrow gravada en directe. Les acusacions d'apologia del satanisme que van rebre es deuen a la tornada de la cançó on explícitament anomena el 666 com el numero de la Bestia i la introducció, amb una cita bíblica del llibre de l'Apocalipsi: ?Woe to you, Oh Earth and Sea, for the Devil sends the beast with wrath, because he knows the time is short. Let him who hath understanding reckon the number of the beast for it is a human number, its number is six hundred and sixty six". Que traduït vindria a ser, "Ai dels moradors de la terra i del mar, perquè el diable ha vingut a vosaltres amb gran ira, sabent que té poc temps". Ap. 12:12. "El que tingui enteniment expliqui el numero de la bèstia, doncs és numero d'home, i el seu numero és sis-cents seixanta-sis". Ap. 13:18 La famosíssima portada, dibuixada per Derek Riggs, originàriament va ser creada pel single, però amb la qualitat resultant es va rebutjar la idea i es va fer servir pel LP. Derek va ser l'autor de gairebé totes les portades mítiques dels discos i singles d' Iron Maiden a la dècada dels 80 i creador de la carismàtica mascota i símbol del grup, Eddie. Obre l'àlbum Invaders, on queda molt clar que la nova incorporació a la veu no ha pogut ser més encertada. Bruce Dickinson fa oblidar ràpidament a Paul Di' Anno, sembla com si hagués estat el cantant de la banda tota la vida i tot just acaba de debutar amb ells. Amb Children Of The Damned, des que comença tens la sensació de que és un gran tema marca de la casa on les guitarres de Dave Murray i Adrian Smith no paren de desafiar-se. El tema The Number Of The Beast és un dels clàssics més grans del Heavy Metal de la dècada dels 80, des d'aleshores sempre ha format part dels seus setlists. Run To The Hills, el primer single del disc, també és un tema imprescindible dels seus concerts, un crit en contra de l'ocupació i colonització que van patir els indis per part de l'home blanc, és una cavalcada desbocada de la secció rítmica amb un riff melòdic i demolidor de guitarres en un crescendo acollonant, on la veu de Bruce Dickinson s'estira fins al punt que penses que petarà en qualsevol moment. Completen el disc The Prisoner, 22 Acacia Avenue, Gangland i Hallowed Be Thy Name que és un altre dels trumfos guanyadors, un tema rodó, potent, compacte i demolidor de 7 minuts que defineix perfectament el que és Iron Maiden. Queda molt clar que aquest disc, com els altres que vindrien, o com Iron Maiden com a grup, no seria el mateix sense Bruce Dickinson, això ja es va poder comprovar durant el període de 1993 a 1999 en que Bruce va abandonar la banda per tornar desprès, o a la inversa, sense les composicions i el baix d' Steve Harris, els guitarres Dave Murray, Adrian Smith i Janick Gers (des de 1990) i la bateria de Clive Burr primer i Nicko McBrain desprès, tampoc Bruce Dickinson és el mateix en solitari. La veu i el carisma de Bruce son el revulsiu i l'empenta que la banda necessitava en aquell moment, amb ell, el grup puja a un altre nivell, al capdamunt del Heavy Metal mundial. A pesar que The Number Of The Beast va ser un disc de vital importància en la seva ascensió, no és l'únic ni molt menys, Iron Maiden (1980) el seu disc de debut, com més endavant Piece Of Mind (1983), Powerslave (1984), Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son (1988) o Fear Of The Dark (1992) per citar-ne alguns, també ho van ser, a més cadascú pot tenir el seu preferit, però una cosa és segura, sense el The Number Of The Beast, una discoteca personal esta incompleta, i no vull dir només una discoteca de Heavy Metal. Show ple fins a la bandera i lamentablement l'única vegada que varem poder veure darrera la bateria a Clive Burr al nostre país. Dickinson s'estrenava com a cantant de la banda i va passar la prova dels fans amb nota.

(foto di Ross Halfin) È morto, a 71 anni, Martin Birch, storico produttore ed ingenere del suono. Aveva lavorato (tra gli altri) con Black Sabbath e Iron Maiden ed era stato un personaggio fondamentale per la scena heavy metal. Agli inizi della propria carriera aveva lavorato come tecnico del suono per i Fleetwood Mac. Il suo sapiente lavoro è apprezzabile nei dischi più importanti dei Deep Purple: 'Deep Purple in Rock ', 'Ma chine Head ' e ' Made in Japan '. La notizia del suo decesso è stata confermata anche da David Coverdale, ex Deep Purple e Whitesnake , su Twitter: "Con grande dolore ho potuto appurare che il mio caro amico e produttore Martin Birch è deceduto… Martin è stato una grande parte della mia vita… Mi ha aiutato fin dal primo momento in cui ci siamo incontrati fino a Slide It In… Il mio pensiero e le mie preghiere vanno alla sua famiglia, i suoi amici e ai fan… ". Metal music, through its efforts has reinstated the “ancient Indo-European spirit of vir”1 through a Romantic, Faustian form of music culture. This has staggered the general concept of mainstream music and has hence, since long, remained controversial. Heavy metal has never been popular with the mainstream masses, primarily due to the nature of the music. Amongst other things, lyrical content of the songs is one thing that is largely frowned upon and often considered to be one of the primary reasons why metal music has never struck a chord with the masses. But such allegations, while partly true, remain biased to a large extent.
