John J. Sulkowski, AP Bridge COMMANDER Cdr. John J. Sulkowski, AP Grosse Pointe Power Squadron Tars and Tripe February 2018 [email protected] “A wonderful time was had by all”. That was the description of the 2018 Grosse Pointe Power Squadron Commander’s Ball at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial on 20 January EXECUTIVE OFFICER 2018. Larry Lee and Back in the Day Band played flawlessly; 8 musicians and two Lt/C Natalie Dunbar, P singers were more than we expected. Music and vocals were spot on. You could tell [email protected] that they loved what they were doing.

Nikki Charbonneau, Sales and Event Manager, and her staff bent over backwards to EDUCATIONAL OFFICER make this a memorable event. Nikki and our own Lt Bonny Utz who headed up our Cdr Lt/C Chester Dunbar Jr., AP Ball Committee, put together the entire event from meal choices to floor plan. Nikki’s [email protected] staff even put out our table center pieces and novelty giveaways when they were setting up the tables. We got there early to help set up but Nikki’s staff said that they had it ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER covered and sent us home to get dressed. We could not have got this done without the Lt/C Joan McCarron, AP hard work of Bonny Utz. [email protected] Thankyous also go out to Roger and Judy Avie. Roger was our photographer. He took all the pictures and some video to capture the event. He was totally professional and SECRETARY very creative. Fond memories were captured. Thanks also go out to Dave Charvat from Lt/C Rose Stano, AP “Charvat the Florist” put together the beautiful table centerpieces. [email protected] My family who had never come to a GPPS function were blown away by the energy TREASURER and enthusiasm shown by our members. After dinner almost everyone stayed to dance Lt/C John Bennett, SN and to mingle. This speaks volumes of the fellowship of our organization. This is the [email protected] message we need to get out about our squadron. As I told my family, we can really boogie!

COMMANDERS BALL 2018 Grosse Pointe Power Squadron Tars and Tripe February 2018

This year, the 2018 Commander’s Ball was held at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial for the first time in GPPS history. Those of you that missed it………You missed a great time. We had a duet meal of Short Ribs and Chicken Marsala, delicious! The band, Larry Lee and Back in the Day, had the dance floor full most of the evening. Our very own P/C/C Theodore Smith SN received the Annual Service Award & P/C Bill Stano JN received Lifetime Achievement Award.

I would like to say thank you to the committee for helping put the Commanders Ball together. There was myself, P/C Ron Utz, Commander John Sulkowski, P/C Chet & Lt./C Natalie Dunbar, P/C Michael Babiarz, P/D/C Bill & Lt./C Rose Stano, P/D/C John Bennett, D/C Jan Klumpp and P/C Bob Malicki. We have been making plans for months to bring this enjoyable event together. We had to overcome some obstacles this year that we normally don’t have to deal with, but everything worked out. I heard from many people how wonderful the Ball was. The hard work paid off!

I want to thank everyone who answered our call to help the committee with the Ball in anyway, you are definitely appreciated! Those of you that attended, thank you for supporting your 2018 Bridge. We couldn’t do it without you! Thanks again!

See you at the D/9 Conference 6-8 April 2018!

Sincerely,

Lt. Bonny Utz
