................................................................................ 97 4 ARKANSAS BAPTIST STATE CONVENTION IN HONOR OF DAVID PERRY David Perry retired April 1, 2019 as Executive Director of Arkansas Baptist Children's Homes and Family Ministries after devoting 40 years of service to the Lord and Arkansas Baptists. In addition to serving as Executive Director since 1995, Mr. Perry previously served as Director of Program and Staff Development, Little Rock Area Director, Harrison Area Director, and Case Worker in the Jonesboro Area Office. He served as president of Arkansas Association of Homes for Children for four terms. In 2000, he served as president for Baptist Child Care Exectives and general chairman of Southern Baptist Business Officers Conference. Notably, Mr. Perry was appointed by Governor Mike Huckabee to serve on the Arkansas Child Welfare Agency Review Board from 1997-2001. A native of Texas, Mr. Perry graduated from Baylor University in Waco, Texas with a bachelor of arts in sociology with social work emphasis. He received a master of social work from the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. He and his wife, Lucia, have three adult children and five grandchildren. The Perrys have been faithful members of First Baptist Church in Sherwood for over 35 years. IN MEMORY OF BEN & BETTY ELROD Dr. Ben Elrod, served as Ouachita Baptist University's president from 1988 to 1998 and as longtime chancellor. He was an ordained minister having pastored churches in Arkansas, Texas, and Oklahoma. He also served as college president in Indiana and Kentucky, and president of Arkansas' Independent Colleges and Universities. In addition to graduating from Ouachita, Dr. Elrod earned degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Indiana University. Mrs. Betty Lou Elrod, also a graduate of Ouachita, was devoted to her husband and served alongside him during his many years of ministry and service at Ouachita. In 1998, Ouachita awarded her the distinguished alumna award for service and devotion to the university. Ouachita dedicated the Ben M. Elrod Center for Family and Community upon his retirement as president, and later in 2015 the Elrod Center facilty was named in his honor. In 2009, the university dedicated the Ben and Betty Elrod Boulevard, designed as the main entrance to campus from Highway 7, in recognition of their service through the years. Dr. Ben and Betty Elrod were married for 67 years and entered Heaven within weeks of each other.
