White Anglo-Saxon Protestant. 13 Introduction 14 15 The vampire has always been a myth, or a cultural production, that allures great fascination upon civilizations since ancient times. The image of the dark side of both human beings and nature, the revenant still captures the mind of the public through the powers of darkness, to the point in which almost every civilization throughout history developed a vampiric visage, with which the unknown may linger and lie in wait so that the forces uncanny may have a proper explanation as part of the human construct of their own existence. Spanning from rather complex impressions of natural forces and their destructiveness, in combination with their role when shaping the personality, and social and moral frameworks of identity; to the greater develoments of the vampire as the image of contemporary society, with its complexity of form, meaning, and characterization; it most certainly retains the same vigour it always possessed. Current Western society, as the commonly accepted form of culturally modern and productive, has come to depict vampires with greater strength in literature and audiovisual industry, and during recent years, there is an offspring of new vampire forms that invade the minds of the public. This thesis developed under the premise of understanding the vampire as the embodiment of the Western white man’s masculinity of capitalist nature. Marxist studies have long comprehended the vampire as the oppressive force of capital in the context of social class battle. Traditionally seen as the parasiting aspect of capital, this thesis attempts to widen this perspective through the analysis of vampirism

Woman dies, Gwydion takes his children and their children as slaves. Millenia pass. Arak was Gwydion's favorite. Perhaps, Gwydion had mated with one of the Shadow elves of unsurpassed beauty and begat Arak. Thus, he set his son above all the other slaves. Arak, however, desired more than to be the head of the slaves. He managed to betray his father to his enemies. Arak had intended patricide. He was going to take away Gwydion's protective armed forces, leaving him vulnerable to attack by his other enemies.

An Asian case of clinical vampirism is described. It is about a 24-year-old Malay female, paramedic student, who craved for blood since childhood. She injured her sister and herself so that she could access and drink blood. There was no associated psychosis or medical problems. The craving for blood may represent her underlying craving for parental love and attention. Keywords: Schizophrenia, vampire, psychosis, Malaysia, blood INTRODUCTION Vampires are mythological beings who survive by feeding on the blood of living creatures. The vampire myth is widespread in various cultures including those in Asian countries. Some authors have reviewed the possible link between the vampire myth and medical conditions such as porphyria [1]. Clinical vampirism in psychiatric practice is extremely rare, and usually associated with schizophrenia, antisocial personality disorder or paraphilia [2]. An Asian case of female clinical vampirism is described in this article. THE CASE A 24-year old female Malaysian started craving and ingesting human blood at the age of five years old. She would injure her sister by pushing or scratching her while playing, making it look accidental, and then licked the blood from the wounds (2-3 times per week).

Endless varieties of Gothic ‘There is a lot of second-rate work these days that illustrates Goth motifs, wearing gloom on its sleeves with big winks for everyone.’ – Ralph Rugoff, frieze, 20041 a dark strain of contemporary art gothic-themed exhibitions 2 and publications3 in the US and the UK, and a March 2009 auction at Sotheby’s, 1) spooky motifs such as skulls, bones, tombstones, shrouds, devils; 13) references to horror film; atmospheric, often elaborate interiors suggestive of a haunted house; 16) knights; castles; pointed arches, stained glass and other medieval or Shakespearean motifs; 2) Goth subculture; 3) adolescence, often evoked in labour-intensive, obsessive and overwrought (‘psychedelic’) drawings; 4) monstrous combinations of human and animal forms, or the organic and the inorganic, in ‘Frankenstinian’ creations; 5) mirrors, masks and doubles; 6) references to 19th century gothic novelists, particularly Edgar Allan Poe; 7) evocations of death, decay and nostalgia; 8) blood; matted hair; dissections; amputations and prosthetics; 9) exotic settings and details, tending towards a Victorian, Egyptian or Orientalist flavour; 10) erotica obliquely suggestive of sado-masochism, often in illustration and cartoon; 11) demonic children and children/doll/animal hybrids; 12) demonic animals, particularly bats, leopards, rats; flies and insects, sometimes dead or dying; 14) texts in gothic typeface; 15) ruins; desolate or dream landscapes; phantom cities; 17) shadowy or clouded images and projections; night scenes; 18) a predominance of the colour black from medieval architecture to 18th-19th century literarature, from mid-20th century B-films to late 20th century goth subcultural style 2.
