ACTING upon the suggestion of the retiring Master and other prominent members of the Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire Hunt, I have ventured to produce an historical record which it is hoped will meet with the appreciation of those interested. For the description of the sport of the past twenty seasons I am greatly indebted to the diaries so perfectly kept by the late Mr. J. J. Barclay, which were kindly placed at my disposal by Mr. G. Barclay. Without such a valuable asset no work of this kind could ever have been attempted, and I have made the fullest possible use of these records, so that sportsmen and sportswomen of the last quarter of a century can refresh their memory in regard to the many great runs enjoyed during that period. I hope I have succeeded in an effort to furnish a complete and unvarnished account of the doings of the pack, together with a history of the Hunt since its origin. This incapacity benefit (IB) claimant profile for Renfrewshire gives detailed information on IB claimants by sex, age, reason for claiming IB and length of time on IB. It also contains IB claimant rates for the 38 intermediate zones in Renfrewshire (in 2008, Paisley Ferguslie had the highest IB rate at 23.1% and Houston South the lowest rate at 2.8%). 2. In 2008 there were 10,800 IB claimants in Renfrewshire. The IB rate, on flow rate and off flow rate were determined for Renfrewshire from 2000 to 2008. The percent of the working age population claiming IB has decreased from 12.3% to 10.2% from 2000 to 2008. The rate of on flow has decreased from 3.5% to 2.6% and the off flow rate has increased from 25.0% to 28.5%. 3. The proportion of ‘payment’ IB claimants is larger in Renfrewshire compared to Scotland for both males and females. The proportion of male and female ‘credits only’ IB claimants (those with a poor work history) have increased from 2000 to 2008. There are more female ‘credits only’ claimants than males in Renfrewshire. 4. The proportion of each age group who are claimants rises with age, peaking in the 60-64 age group. -

Kilbarchan Relief Society Church
RLHF Journal Vol.5 (1993) 2. The Relief Society Church at Kilbarchan Bill Curran Patronage for the established churches of England and Scotland was reinstated by parliament in 1712. But the Presbyterian church had, in 1689, replaced the Episcopalian church as the established state church of Scotland, and to Presbyterians, the appointment of ministers by congregations was an essential point of religion. It was therefore inevitable that differences of opinion would arise between those who held the patronage and the congregations. The patronage of Kilbarchan Parish Church had been purchased by James Milliken, who died in 1776. When, ten years later, the Kilbarchan minister died, James Milliken's trustees selected the successor, the first time since 1605 that a lay patron had exercised his right in Kilbarchan. The choice was endorsed by most of the heritors (landowners) in the parish, by the elders of the church and many others. The opposition, led by William Barr of Cartside, John Galbraith in Thirdpart, John Cochrane in Linwood, James Lyle in Torr and William Lang in Bridge of Weir had the support of 260 heads of families and inhabitants in Kilbarchan (1). These parishioners decided to form their own church and on the 5th May 1786 “a numerous and respectable meeting in the Town Hall of the inhabitants ………agreed………that it is absolutely necessary that there be a church or Meeting House built with all convenient speed………and that it be of the Relief Denomination" (2). On the last Sunday in May a Mr Bell was invited to come to Kilbarchan and he preached, in the open air on Steeple Knoll, to a congregation of a thousand (3). -

Muirdykes Supply Area Water Main Rehabilitation Works
GEORGE LESLIE LTD CIVIL ENGINEERING CONTRACTORS MUIRDYKES SUPPLY AREA WATER MAIN REHABILITATION WORKS This project in the Muirdykes RSZ covered South Paisley, Johnstone, Kilbarchan, Linwood and Howwood and comprised the Design & Build of 177km of water main rehab and upgrading work on the public water trunk and distribution supply network. The objective was to satisfy the DW5 criteria to reduce the high levels of manganese which had resulted in severe discolouration in the water supply. Detailed design work included: analysis of historical records, street-by-street surveys, extensive trial-hole site investigation and non-destructive testing of the existing pipelines, from which the most cost-effective intervention solution was developed in compliance with the ‘DW5’ methodology. The design was also subject to regular review and governance approvals by client stakeholders before final adoption. Extensive stakeholder consultation and approvals were necessary prior to commencing on site, to ensure traffic restrictions and road closures could be effected and private land entry agreed. Close co-operation with Scottish Water’s Customer Service Delivery teams ensured that planned interruptions to supply were minimised and close co-operation with SW operations teams enabled reconfiguring of the network to maintain supply to customers wherever possible. Across the programme, some 25km of pipeline was relined, with the remainder subject to a variety of intervention techniques ranging from simple swabbing and flushing, to the more intrusive slip-lining and pipe-bursting. On unavoidable instances, complete pipeline replacement was undertaken. Through innovative design and efficient delivery techniques, out-turn savings of £500,000 were realised on this £3m programme of work.
