Most people dont have enough time, or energy, to walk the 641 kms (398 miles) so Porto has now become the most popular starting point. From here, there are two main routes the Coastal Camino, which spends some, but not all, time by the ocean, and the traditional Portuguese Camino, which stays inland. This Camino takes you from one historic town or city to another with plenty of beautiful scenery and tiny villages in between. This is a self-guided camino tour where you will walk independently along the trail but have your luggage transferred each day from accommodation to accommodation. In addition, we will provide a 24/7 contact emergency number for the duration of the trip. NOTE: If you would like to add a guide to accompany you during this trip please let us know and we can quote it for you. Day by day itinerary DAY 1: PORTO • One member of our team will meet you at the hotel to welcome you and provide a full briefing and all the documentation youll need. (NOTE: If you plan to arrive before see our add-on section for pre-tour options) • Lunch & Dinner on your own • Overnight in Porto DAY 2: PORTO - MOSTEIRÓ - ARCOS (Walking Distance: 17km / 10.5 miles) • Breakfast • After breakfast, you will meet a member of our team who will drive you to Mosteiró to start your Portuguese Camino de Santiago. • You will notice the progressive transition from urban into rural areas as you walk this first stage. You will walk throughVilarinho and cross the medieval bridge over the Ave before reaching the village of Arcos where the first stage ends. • Lunch & Dinner on your own • Overnight in Arcos B DAY 3: ARCOS - BARCELOS (Walking Distance: 20km / 12.5 miles) • Breakfast • Start walking from Arcos towards the ancient village of Rates and its imposing Romanesque church. Pass the villages of Courel and Pedra Furada then follows rural roads until you reach the attractive town of Barcelos. • There are plenty of restaurants to choose from in Barcelos. • Lunch & Dinner on your own • Overnight in Barcelos B DAY 4: BARCELOS - BALUGAES (Walking Distance: 15km / 9.3 miles) • Breakfast • Set off from Barcelos along minor roads which will take you to a more rural area where youll see small scale agricultural practices and perhaps meet some villagers. Walk through the small villages of Tamel and Aboim towards the River Neiva. End the day in the village of Quintiães. • Lunch & Dinner on your own • Overnight in Balugaes B DAY 5: BALUGAES - PONTE DE LIMA (Walking Distance: 18km / 11.2 miles) • Breakfast • The day starts by crossing the River Neiva by a medieval bridge just before the village of Balugães. This is a day of rural roads and magnificent countryside until your spectacular entrance into the picturesque town of Ponte de Lima. Time your walk so that you have ample opportunity to enjoy the historical center and gardens or just sit by the river for a while. • Enjoy your comfy bed tonight at a 3-star hotel with breakfast included. Choose from a range of restaurants in Ponte de Lima where you can try traditional dishes like polvo à lagareiro (baked octopus) or bacalhau assado com broa (baked cod with cornbread) and a fine Loureiro white wine. • Lunch & Dinner on your own • Overnight in Ponte de Lima B DAY 6: PONTE DE LIMA - COSSOURADO (Walking Distance: 22km / 13.6 miles) • Breakfast • Leave the medieval town of Ponte de Lima and return to the rural world. In the middle of this stage you will encounter Labruja mountain. The 2 km uphill are the most demanding of the whole Portuguese Way of St James but the views are worth the effort. Once youre over the hill, its an easy walk to complete this stage. • Lunch & Dinner on your own • Overnight in Cossourado B DAY 7: COSSOURADO - VALENÇA (Walking Distance: 13km / 8 miles) • Breakfast • This day starts by leaving the valley of the River Coura and climbing gently to São Bento da Porta Aberta. Continue to Fontoura through fields and brushwood until you reach the fortress town of Valença. • You can have dinner in one of Tuis many restaurants. • Lunch & Dinner on your own • Overnight in Valença B DAY 8: VALENÇA - PORRIÑO (Walking Distance: 20km / 12.4 miles) • Breakfast • Before you leave Tui, spend some time visiting its famous Gothic cathedral. From Tui, youll follow the Louro valley, walk along a forest track and across a stone slab bridge into a wetland area where you should spot plenty of birdlife. The last stage leaves Caldas de Reis and takes you through a soft climb to the charming woodlands of Valga.     Ponte de Lima Pilgrim's Hostel Regulations Since the Middles Ages and the earliest Pilgrimages to the Tomb of the Apostle St James, along what became known as the Portuguese Way of St James, Ponte de Lima has been a milestone for all those who have walked these ancient roads to earn their indulgence, symbolised by the "Compostela". This journey, having slackened off at times in the past, is becoming increasingly popular once again and hundreds of Pilgrims now travel through Ponte de Lima every year, before continuing on their way to Santiago de Compostela through the famous Serra da Labruja, an emblematic section of the Portuguese Way, while many others travel on pilgrimage in the opposite direction, towards Fátima. Coming from the south, from Barcelos, along what is considered the backbone of the Portuguese Way, or from Braga, the Pilgrims to Santiago necessarily pass through Ponte de Lima, to cross the river Lima - as pilgrims have done for centuries - the over the Roman and medieval bridges, national symbols of the Portuguese Way. Other cultural factors of the Portuguese Way include well as cross-border relations and cooperation and policies to promote mobility - vital for mutual understanding and cultural communication.     Plano de Transportes Escolares 2016-2017 INTRODUÇÃO Nos termos da alínea gg) do ponto n.º 1, do artigo 33.º, da Lei n.º 75/2013, de 12 de setembro, compete à Autarquia assegurar, organizar e gerir a concessão dos Transportes Escolares aos alunos do concelho de Ponte de Lima. No âmbito da transferência de competências legislada pelo Decreto-lei n.º 299/84, de 05 de setembro, o Município de Ponte de Lima assume a função centralizadora e organizadora da Rede de Transportes Escolares dos alunos que frequentam os diversos estabelecimentos de ensino do concelho, nomeadamente os Agrupamentos de Escolas de Ponte de Lima, António Feijó, Arcozelo e Freixo, bem como as Escolas Básicas de Arcozelo, Refoios do Lima, Gandra, Trovela, Ribeira, Feitosa, Freixo, Vitorino dos Piães, Facha e Lagoas. São abrangidos pelo transporte escolar todos os alunos do ensino básico e secundário, com o limite de idade até aos 18 anos completados até final do ano letivo em que se matriculam, que cumpram as condições previstas no artigo 2.º, n.º 1, do Decreto-lei n.º 299/84, de 05 de setembro, que prevê a oferta de serviço de transporte em que a distância entre o local de residência e a escola seja superior a três ou quatro quilómetros, respetivamente sem ou com refeitório e respeitando as normas estabelecidas pelo Ministério da Educação referentes ao processo de matrícula e encaminhamento escolar.     1 Atlas Ambiental do Concelho de Ponte de Lima Geomorfologia e Geologia M.J. Lemos de Sousa e Cristina Rodrigues 1. Introdução O Mapa Topográfico do Concelho de Ponte de Lima que consta do presente trabalho, foi obtido a partir de uma uma síntese baseada nas seguintes folhas da Carta Militar de Portugal, Escala 1/25.000: 15, 16, 28, 29, 41, 42, 55 e 56. Por sua vez, e com vista a mostrar a evolução dos conhecimentos sobe a geologia local incluem-se, no presente trabalho, duas versões do Mapa Geológico do concelho, a saber: a)Versão obtida por síntese baseada nas seguintes quatro folhas da Carta Geológica de Portugal, Escala 1/50.000: 1C – Caminha, 5A – Viana do Castelo, 5B – Ponte da Barca e 5C – Barcelos que, no conjunto, integram a área do concelho. As folhas 1D – Arcos de Valdevez e 5D – Braga foram, também, utilizadas mas apenas como complemento gráfico já que não cobrem nenhuma área do mesmo concelho. Nota: Dado que este mapa foi obtido por síntese de quatro mapas distintos, sobre os quais se demarcou o limite do concelho, a legenda da versão que aqui se disponibiliza constitui, naturalmente, uma tentativa de integração das diversas legendas dos mesmos quatro mapas, tarefa esta muito dificultada pelo facto de se tratar de mapas elaborados em datas muito afastadas e, por isso, correspondentes a níveis do conhecimento muito diversificados levando à utilização de terminologias diferentes. Acresce, obviamente, o facto de a demarcação do limite do concelho poder levar a que algumas das formações geológicas listadas na legenda integrada não ocorram na área do mesmo.
