    Care Labelling Guide This chart is for guidance only and should be read in conjunction with the ACCC Care labelling for Clothing Guide which specifies the mandatory standards for care labelling based on the Australian/New Zealand Standard (AS/NZS) 1957:1998, Textiles—Care labelling with variations and additions made by Consumer Protection Notice No. 25 of 2010. In Australia, care instructions must be permanently attached to articles, be written in English, and be appropriate for the care of the article. Additional symbols may be used to clarify the instructions but symbols alone are not sufficient. As a minimum, laundering instructions include (in order) four symbols: washing, bleaching, drying, and ironing. Drycleaning instructions include one symbol. Professional Wet Cleaning symbols are included for information only as they are not currently recognised in Australia. Washing The washtub symbol tells you how the garment should be washed. The number inside the washtub is the maximum wash temperature. A bar underneath the washtub indicates that the garment should have mild treatment or washed using the Permanent Press setting. Commercial dry cleaners who use perchloroethylene (perc) are required to certify to the Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) that they are complying with the environmental protection requirements that apply to their business on or before September 15. These instructions are intended to help you complete and submit the on- line ERP Certification. These instructions and the separate Workbook have been designed to enable you to fill out the ERP Certification by yourself. DEP strongly advises you to review this material well in advance of the September 15 deadline. While many facilities have all of the equipment they need to comply with environmental standards and are operating in compliance with the requirements, some businesses may need to take additional steps to comply. The on-line ERP certification includes the following: Annual ERP Compliance Certification: This form has seven sections: Facility Information - identifies the facility, mailing address and a contact person. Whites should be separated from co- lours, and pastels separated from darker colours, in order to avoid greying whites and dark stains bleeding onto lighter colours. Next, we recommend sorting clothes according to their washing tempera- ture, as indicated on their composition label. You can group together so-called delicate items (lace, silk, micro fibre ...) to wash then together. For some items, we recommend turning them over. This is essential for: velvets, items with prints, embroidery, transfers, fantasy knitwear, all pre- washed fabrics such as jeans. More generally, this technique is recom- mended to protect garments from fading, felting, wear or pilling for deli- cate materials. It can therefore be applied to all clothing. For delicate materials, the garment can be put in a cotton bag for washing, or a washing bag to protect it. Dry cleaning is recommended for padded garments (coats or jackets). Dry cleaning is more appropriate for this type of garment. More generally, dry cleaning is recommended for delicate materials and/or items. If you purchased coordinates, try to wash them together to limit colour differences.     4.1 Dry Cleaning 4.1.1 General1,2 Dry cleaning involves the cleaning of fabrics with nonaqueous organic solvents. The dry cleaning process requires 3 steps: (1) washing the fabric in solvent, (2) spinning to extract excess solvent, and (3) drying by tumbling in a hot air stream. Two general types of cleaning fluids are used in the industry, petroleum solvents and synthetic solvents. Petroleum solvents, such as Stoddard or 140-F, are inexpensive combustible hydrocarbon mixtures similar to kerosene. Operations using petroleum solvents are known as petroleum plants. Synthetic solvents are nonflammable but more expensive halogenated hydrocarbons. Perchloroethylene and trichlorotrifluoroethane are the 2 synthetic dry cleaning solvents presently in use. Operations using these synthetic solvents are respectively called "perc" plants and fluorocarbon plants. There are 2 basic types of dry cleaning machines, transfer and dry-to-dry. Transfer machines accomplish washing and drying in separate machines. Usually, the washer extracts excess solvent from the clothes before they are transferred to the dryer, but some older petroleum plants have separate extractors for this purpose. Dry-to-dry machines are single units that perform all of the washing, extraction, and drying operations. All petroleum solvent machines are the transfer type, but synthetic solvent plants can be either type. The dry cleaning industry can be divided into 3 sectors: coin-operated facilities, commercial operations, and industrial cleaners. Coin-operated facilities are usually part of a laundry supplying "self-service" dry cleaning for consumers. Only synthetic solvents are used in coin operated dry cleaning machines. Such machines are small, with a capacity of 3.6 to 11.5 kg (8 to 25 lb) of clothing.

    HDX Liquid Laundry Detergent: Stain Removing Tips BLOOD If stain is fresh soak in cold water; then wash. If stain is dry, soak in warm water with HDX Liquid Laundry Detergent for at least 30 minutes (or overnight for best results) and then wash. If stain persists rewash using bleach safe for fabric. CANDLE WAX Peel off any surface wax, sandwich the fabric between blotting paper or kitchen towel and iron over the mark to melt out the remaining wax. Dab with a grease solvent to remove the last traces, and then wash as the care label advises. CHEWING GUM Chill fabric with ice to harden gum. Peel or scrape off excess gum with edge of teaspoon. Rub with HDX Liquid Laundry Detergent. Rinse with hot water. Repeat if necessary. Wash in hottest water safe for fabric. CHOCOLATE Scrape off the surface chocolate, and then sponge the stain with warm soapy water. Rinse with cold water and using HDX Liquid Laundry Detergent. COFFEE OR TEA Sponge or soak stain promptly in cool water. While still wet rub HDX Liquid Laundry Detergent directly into any remaining stain. Wash with HDX Detergent and bleach (safe for the fabric) in hottest water safe for fabric. For older stains, pre-soak in HDX Liquid Laundry Detergent before treating. COOKING OILS Dampen stain. Rub with HDX Liquid Laundry Detergent and wash in hottest water safe for fabric. Make sure stain is completely removed before drying in dryer or ironing. GRASS Soak in HDX Liquid Laundry Detergent and water for 30 minutes. If stain remains, pre-soak overnight.
