Article history: From recent field and museum collections, new localities and range extensions of 47 taxa (28 species and 19 Received 25 April 2015 subspecies) of tiger beetles within various are reported. Therates rugulosus W. Horn, Revised 12 July 2015 1900 is reliably recorded for the first time in Thailand. The list of the tiger beetles of Thailand now has 146 Accepted 25 July 2015 taxa, including 35 endemics (28 species, 7 subspecies) and 27 near-endemics (24 species, 3 subspecies). The Available online 1 August 2015 endemics represent 24% of the total species diversity, but together with near-endemics, it rises to 42.5%. Introduction study» (Naviaux and Pinratana, 2004). In the subsequent decade, more tiger beetle species were added to the list of Thailand species. Five The first preliminary list of tiger beetles of Thailand included 39 new species were described (Cassola, 2006; Naviaux, 2008, 2010; species and subspecies (Shook, 1987). These records, however, were Wiesner, 2010, 2013), and three, Cylindera (Ifasina) kaleea kaleea reported only by province and not by specific localities. Four years (Bates, 1863), Therates concinnus Gestro, 1888, and Therates kraatzi W. later Naviaux (1991) published the first comprehensive summary of Horn, 1900, were recorded from this country for the first time (Wiesner, the Cicindelidae of Thailand. It contained detailed locality data about 2010, 2013). In addition, several species have now been found in addi- the distribution of 103 species and subspecies, including 20 newly de- tional Thai provinces (Cassola, 2005; Matalin, 2014). scribed. Subsequently 18 additional taxa of tiger beetles were described These additional records of 28 species and 19 subspecies of tiger from Thailand (Naviaux, 1994 a-b, d, 1995 b, 1996 a-b, 2002; Probst and beetles substantially increase the number of tiger beetle taxa reliably Wiesner, 1994; Moravec and Wiesner, 2001). Most recently, the second recorded from Thailand and among its provinces. comprehensive list of tiger beetles of Thailand (Naviaux and Pinratana, 2004) included 132 taxa. Materials However, Cylindera (Ifasina) belli (W. Horn, 1894), Cylindera (Ifasina) pronotalis (W. Horn, 1922), and Callytron limosum (Saunders, 1834), all Specimens included in this study are kept in the following museums mentioned from Thailand by Shook (1987), were not included in and private collections: the later comprehensive publications (Naviaux, 1991; Naviaux and Pinratana, 2004). Moreover, several records of tiger beetles from some provinces of Thailand (Cassola, 1995; Matalin and Cassola, 2000; SZM Siberian Zoological Museum (Novosibirsk, Russia), Moravec and Wiesner, 2001) were not included in Naviaux and MPU Moscow State Pedagogical University (Moscow, Russia), Pinratana (2004).InadditionTherates rihai Moravec & Wiesner, 2001, cAK Alexey Korshunov (Novokuznetsk, Russia), and Therates haucki Moravec & Wiesner, 2001 were mentioned only in cAN Alexandr Napolov (Riga, RigaZoo, Latvia), the Fauna of Thailand, systematic list but not in the chapter «Systematic cIO Igor’ Ovsyannikov (Ristiaallokenkatu, Finlande), cPU Pavel Udovichenko (Moscow, Russia), E-mail address: [email protected]. cSK Sergei Kazantsev (Moscow, Russia).
