This Week in BIG 10 Action ALLWHAT TIMES CENTRAL 2 WATCH 4 NEW MEXICO STATE (0-1) @ MINNESOTA (0-0): The Aggies got thumped Saturday night by the Wyoming Cowboys 29-7. The Cowboys rang up (323) THURSDAY yards on the ground. The Gophers should have similar results with senior Rod- ney Smith piling up over (100) yards rushing. True freshman walk-on QB Zack New Mexico State @ Minnesota 6pm Annexstad will get his first career start for boat rower PJ Fleck. Northwestern @ Purdue 7pm PREDICTION: Gophers 31 Aggies 13 FRIDAY NORTHWESTERN @ PURDUE: This is a quality matchup for a Thursday night opener. The intrigue will be with the health of Wildcat QB Thorson. The Boilers Utah State @ #11 Michigan State 6pm will likely rotate Sindelar and Blough at QB. I give the lean to Purdue at home W. Kentucky @ #4 Wisconsin with more returning experience but this will be a good one to open things up inside the conference. PREDICTION: Boilers 20 Wildcats 13 SATURDAY UTAH ST @ #11 MICHIGAN ST: The Aggies gave up (215) yards per game on Oregon State @ #5 Ohio State 11am the ground to rank #115 overall in 2017. Sparty is solid and should be punching holes in the Aggies front by the third quarter. This one could get ugly in East #23 Texas @ Maryland 11am Lansing with Sparty dictating field position and teeing off on defense. PREDIC- Kent State @ Illinois 11am TION: Spartans 42 Aggies 10 Texas State @ Rutgers 11am W.KENTUCKY @ #5 WISCONSIN: This game should be over when the Badg- ers decide they want to end it. I watched Illinois run on the Hilltoppers last fall Appalachian State @ #10 Penn State and win 20-7. Senior QB Drew Eckels with his first career start at Madison, Northern Illinois @ Iowa 2:30pm good luck with that. The Badger offensive line should close up shop around half-time here. PREDICTION: Badgers 50 Hilltoppers 13 Indiana @ Florida International 6pm OREGON ST @ #4 OHIO ST: Urban Meyer will have to order Papa John’s on- #14 Michigan @ #12 Notre Dame 6:30pm line for this one as he won’t be anywhere near Ohio Stadium. I am thinking this Akron @ Nebraska 7pm is going to be a weird atmosphere. The Beavers will fly in, land and then leave again. It will be as if they never showed up. PREDICTION: Buckeyes 48 Beavers 7. Television Game Day #23 TEXAS @ MARYLAND: There is so much dysfunction at Maryland right now with offensive coordinator Matt Canada named the interim head coach. Weather Report The Terps embarrassed the Horns in Austin last fall 51-41. I like coach Tom Allen he 20% chance of PM Thunderstorms. appears to be a player’s coach. Hoosiers win on the road! PREDICTION: Hoosiers 24 Panthers 14 KENT ST @ ILLINOIS: Coach Lovie Smith needs this win. Watch for QB AJ Bush to lead the Illinois offense under new coordinator Rod Smith. The best news for the Illini is that their freshmen are a year older. Kent State appears to have a lock on last place in the MAC East under new head coach Sean Lewis. PREDICTION: Illini 35 Golden Flashes 10. TEXAS STATE @ RUTGERS: I understand if you don’t want to read this Numb3rs from the prediction and I am ok with that. This is year #9 in a row for a new offensive coordinator at Rutgers. I mean how often do you come across a stat like that? Well, believe it or not this is televised. Twitter should be busy updating this dandy. The Nittany Lions took a huge hit on defense with just (3) returning start- ers. McSorley will pull away eventually but not before the Mountaineers go fists Michigan State -23 ½ vs Utah State up in the first half. PREDICTION: Nittany Lions 35 Mountaineers 17 Wisconsin -35 ½ vs Western Kentucky NORTHERN ILLINOIS @ IOWA: With the Hawks being down (4) players of Ohio State -37 ½ vs Oregon State significance and two starting OL the playing field got tilted back toward even for the visiting Huskies. I have my concerns but place my trust with QB Nate Penn State -23 ½ vs Appalachian State Stanley. Hawk fans know all about TE Noah Fant but I have a feeling some elevated play from the receiving group is about to be witnessed. Nebraska -24 ½ vs Akron PREDICTION: Hawkeyes 30 Huskies 14 Illinois -16 ½ vs Kent State #14 MICHIGAN @ NOTRE DAME: Here is a heavy hitter game. Coach Harbaugh brings QB Shea Patterson to South Bend to battle the Fighting Irish. Rutgers -16 ½ vs Texas State I have gone back and forth on this one. The unknown of how Patterson will Indiana -10 ½ @ F.I.U. perform versus Irish QB Wimbush who is too inconsistent for my liking. I have to go with a known quantity for me that is the Wolverine defense. Iowa -10 ½ vs Northern Illinois PREDICTION: Wolverines 20 Fighting Irish 10. Texas -13 @ Maryland AKRON @ NEBRASKA: This is the equivalent of the sacrificial lamb arriving early to the party which will likely be going on all day Saturday in Lincoln with Notre Dame -1 vs Michigan a 7pm start. The Zips return a good QB in Kato Nelson and (8) starters on de- fense but they will be up against a raucous home crowd. The Husker fan base has been waiting a long time for this game. This will be a juiced stadium that won’t empty out in the 3rd quarter. PREDICTION: Huskers 42 Zips 13 TAILGATING TIPS FROM... HAWKEYE FANS!!!
