    Stefano Marcocchi - viola Stefano Marcocchi was born in Parma (Italy) in 1974. He studied viola at the Conservatorio "A. Boito" where he graduated “Cum Laude” and developed his interest in early music and playing on historic instruments. He joined the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra while still a student in Italy, and at age 22 he was the youngest ever principal violist of the Italian National Radio-Television (RAI) Symphony Orchestra. From 1998–2004 Stefano was a member of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, serving also as leader of the viola section, under such conductors as Claudio Abbado, Daniel Harding, Christopher Hogwood, Kurt Masur, Mark Minkowski, Trevor Pinnock and Andras Schiff. He was invited by Claudio Abbado to join the Lucerne Festival Orchestra and the Orchestra Mozart. In the early 90s Stefano started to be passionately involved in the research of Baroque, Classical and Romantic strings historical performance aside with the discovery of the underrated repertoire of the Viola da Braccio through a personal research conducted on the authentic sources of which he owns a notable collection of ancient originals. He has been principal violist of Europa Galante since 2001, playing extensively in Europe, North and South America, Asia and Australia, and taking part in twenty recording projects. Stefano appears regularly as principal viola with other prominent period-instrument ensembles in Italy and Europe, including Les Talens Lyriques, Il Complesso Barocco, Ensemble Zefiro, I Barocchisti, Il Pomo d'Oro, Ensemble Cordia, Ars Musica Zürich, and he has also enjoyed playing with Accademia Bizantina, Ensemble Aurora, Ensemble Concerto and Modo Antiquo. He is a founding member of AleaEnsemble, a period-instrument string quartet that specializes in the classical and early romantic repertoire.

Il ruolo solistico è affidato alla raffinata presenza del soprano cagliaritano Elisabetta Scano . Il maestro del coro è Marco Faelli . Il programma musicale prevede: Trittico Botticelliano per piccola orchestra P 151 di Ottorino Respighi; Madrigali per orchestra di Gianfrancesco Malipiero; Due inni greci per soprano, coro e orchestra di Ildebrando Pizzetti; La tavola di smeraldo di Sergio Rendine, una nuova commissione del Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, in prima esecuzione assoluta . Il terzo concerto esplora un ambito musicale diverso, proponendo autori del Novecento ed una nuova opera in prima esecuzione assoluta, La tavola di smeraldo di Sergio Rendine, commissionata dal Teatro Lirico di Cagliari. Il testo di questa nuova composizione è tratto dalla Tabula Smaragdina , attribuita ad Ermete Trismegisto (Eρµ ἢς ὀ Τρισµέγιστος). Questo mitico personaggio, nato dal sincretismo religioso ellenistico (la prima citazione compare nel III secolo a. C.), era ritenuto autore, tra l’altro, proprio della Tabula , testo base dell’alchimia rinascimentale nata dalla sua riscoperta nel secolo XV. Il lavoro di Rendine, coerentemente, ha ben presente il mondo musicale del Rinascimento, e si snoda in accattivanti atteggiamenti “neomadrigalistici”. Quasi d’obbligo accostarla, nel programma, ad un altro importante lavoro, ispirato questa volta alle arti figurative del XV secolo, il Trittico Botticelliano di Ottorino Respighi, che prende in esame tre capolavori del grande pittore fiorentino: “La Primavera”, “L’adorazione dei Magi”, “La nascita di Venere”.

In the recent years he has started receiving invitations as a guest conductor by orchestras such as Academy of Ancient Music, Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Chambre de Paris and by KlangVerwaltung Orchestra to conduct Mozart “Jupiter” Symphony at Herrenchiemsee, Germany. He received a huge success. His recording has led him to collaborate with labels such as Erato, Divox Antiqua, Sony and Deutsche Grammophon GmbH, with which he currently has an exclusive contract. His recording releases have won many international awards. Among his recent recordings the complete Mozart concertos with Claudio Abbado and Orchestra Mozart (DG 2008), Haydn violin concertos with the Orchestre des Champs Elysées (DG 2012), “Vivaldi con moto” with Accademia Bizantina, conducted by Ottavio Dantone (DG 2013), “Bach Violin Concertos” with Concerto Köln (DG 2015), “Vivaldi Concerti per due violini” with Amandine Beyer and Ensemble Gli Incogniti (HM 2016).
