The costs were $50,000 for Fiasco and $12,000 for Shwayze. Ian Winston, the winner of “So You Think You Can Rap,” will be another opening act, and negoti- ations for a third opening act are still in the works for the April 4 concert in Lantz Arena. “We’re still not sure if this will happen, though,” said Ceci Brink- er, director of student life. “It is $62,000 just to pay the artist to perform,” Brinker said. Along with the fees for the entertainers, there are also costs for technical production, market- ing, personnel, spotlight opera- tors, equipment, printing and mis- cellaneous. Marketing needs to reach East- ern along with surrounding com- munities. The technical operations, such as sound and lighting needs, will be provided by a professional com- pany in Indiana called Stage Tech, Inc. Also, Lantz Arena needs to be converted into a venue by having staging and flooring set up and turning classrooms into dressing rooms. “Electricians, carpenters, mov- ers and (building service work- ers) are needed for setup,” Brink- er said. Personnel costs include the Uni- versity Police Department, student security and student ushers. These are, for the most part, simply a precaution. The "new resi­ dence hall," which has yet to be named, is now open to students for the fall 'JQQ6 semester. The building houses 288 residents, seven resident assistants, and one ull-timc resident director. According to Housing Director Chip Thomas, all f the rooms were filled as of last march. The rooms are suite style and house eight students per suite. Each suite 's separated by sex but both men and women can live on the same floor. Instead of individual rooms for Resident Assistants one suite a floor will a,·e the R'\'s room contained within it. The RAs will have a door to the out­ ide hallway separate from their suite. Residents gain access to the building with their MAVcard, which unlocks he front door as well as their suite. Each individual room in the suite has 'ts own key. Taylor Stonehouse/Criterion A unique feature to the new residence hall is that the first floor of the 8 wing has no suite. Instead, it houses a lobby, conference room, multipurpose room, computer lab, and the Resident Director's apartment. This floor is meant to be used as meeting place for both faculty, staff and students. All of the equipment that would be needed to create a full classroom has already been installed and could he used as such in the future.

Topical Areas within the survey include: Ticket price students are willing to pay Genres that students want to see Artists/Bands that student have seen and want to see This online survey was initiated on January 20, 2012, and was closed on February 3, 2012. Three Thousand emails were sent out to Eastern Illinois University students. Of those contacted to participate in the online survey, 252(8.4%) initiated the survey, while 176 (5.9%) students completed the survey. Survey Results What is the Maximum ticket price you are willing to spend on a major concert artist/event at EIU? *(Table 1) Student participants responded with a range from $2-$150. 60% of student responses fell between $20-$30 Mean = $29.47 Median = $25 Favorite Genre After applying weighted influence to the ranked selection of favorite genre of music, the following results presented themselves. *(Chart 1) 23.7% selected Hip Hop/Rap 18.3% selected Pop 14.7% selected Alternative 13.5% selected Country 12.5% selected Rock/ Punk Rock 12.0% selected RB 5.4% selected Other Major Concerts per Year Student participant responses ranged from 0-20 major concerts attended in the past year.
