1 1 2 Originally only Brian Ray & his buddy Oliver Leiber were gonna come by and hang out…(Brian is Paul McCartney’s blonde guitar player…he’s also fronting a new band called The Bayonets… Then I found out Denny Laine of Moody Blues & Wings fame was in town…and you know we love Denny…so he’s gonna stop by…he’s in town for Hollywood Show The Westin Los Angeles Airport Address: 5400 W Century Blvd And then I was in my local record emporium FREAKBAET Records and was informed that two time Grammy winning guitarist Laurence Juber was gonna be playing IN THE STORE…today so I thought I’d invite him on….so no music today…just guitar players talking…(kidding)…have `em pick songs…tell stories and maybe even play! So..speaking of Denny Laine, Laurence Juber and Brian Ray… let’s start with a set songs that features none of those guys….Here are the Beatles to make us feel a little bit better after a pretty tough week… 9AM The Beatles - Let It Be - album version - Let It Be (Lennon-McCartney) Lead vocal: Paul 2 3 “Let It Be” was the last song properly recorded on multi-track at Apple Studios during the “Get Back” sessions in January 1969. It was completed in eight takes (numbered Take 20 through 27 to match the film crew clapboard numbers) on January 31, 1969, the day after the rooftop concert. Take 27 had two complete performances of the song and the first of these Take 27 performances was deemed the best.

  • The Music of the Beatles
Christian Cappelluti The music of the Beatles I was driving my car down Peters Creek the other night, and I had the radio on. All of a sudden, they played a very beautiful song; a song with a sweet, mellow, memorable melody, and a mesmerizing and intriguing harmony. This song had something very peculiar about it, something which made it sound simple, sincere, and spontaneous, but also refined and classy, at the same time. It was one of those songs that make me wish there were more like them, even if it was not the first time that I had listened to it. Actually, I had probably listened to that song for the first time when I was a child, and since then I must have listened to it many other times. While I turned the radio a little bit louder, I started thinking about the band who wrote and sang that song, and how great it was at composing music that we all still love, thirty years later. The name of the song was "Michelle" and the band who wrote it, as we all know, is "The Beatles". The Beatles was a band that really brought something new and valuable to the world of modern music, something for which all pop and rock musicians who came after them should be very thankful. The Beatles was the first world famous self-contained band that wrote its own songs, and turned the last name of the authors (Lennon/McCartney) into a guarantee of quality. The Beatles was the first band that experimented with different production and sound engineering techniques, using a variety of instruments on its records, ranging from the string quartet in "Yesterday", to the full orchestra in "All you need is love", from the alarm clock in "A day in the life" to the backwards-rolling tapes in "Strawberry Fields Forever".

Contact: [email protected] • The White Album as Neo-Victorian Fiction of Loss *-(+' 34/"5 abstract While much has been written about Sgt. Pepper’s celebration of high Victorian culture, little scholarship, if any, has focused on the White Album’s relationship to the late Victorian period. !is paper examines !e Beatles through the lens of what Victorian studies scholar Stephen Arata has called “"ctions of loss,” a body of "n de siècle texts depicting intertwined processes of “national, biological, [and] aesthetic” decline. I argue that the White Album can be read alongside Dracula and She as a “"ction of loss,” revealing the degree to which a sense of “irretrieva- ble decline” returned to haunt Britain in the late Sixties. Indeed, decline and fall comprise one of 2e Beatles’s major concerns, not only because the album doc- uments the band’s nascent breakup, but also because it "nds the band address- ing (and o#en satirizing) a constellation of "n de siècle themes, newly relevant at midcentury: fears of reverse colonization (“Back In !e USSR”); half-ironic fascination with colonial adventurism and “Eastern” enlightenment as correc- tives to decline (“!e Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill,” “Dear Prudence”); Decadent critiques of over-interpretation (“Glass Onion”); nightmares/fantasies of apocalyptic destruction (“Helter Skelter,” “Revolution $”), and representa- tions of animal bodies (“Piggies,” “Yer Blues”).
