With an average rank of 54.2, the ACC led all FBS conferences for the 11th consecutive year. ACC institutions saw 96 combined teams receive Academic Progress Rate recognition awards from the NCAA in May, once again the most of any peer conference. Additionally, the league tied for the highest GSR among peer conferences in the sport of football, and a combined six ACC men’s and women’s basketball teams achieved perfect scores.

Ferdon, Ph.D. This case study examines women sports writers in the 1980s and 2000s. The purpose of the study was to describe the perceptions of women sports writers’ in relationship to their professional and personal experiences in sports journalism, and how the field has changed in terms of gender relations, sexual harassment, and gender discrimination. Participants agreed that men and women are equal in terms of job duties, and they do not experience discrimination and harassment in the field. There is still progress to be made in terms of the number of women in sports journalism. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND OBJECTIVES: Global Critical Race Theory explores conceptions of race, racialization and anti-racism from various perspectives in political and social theory, recognizing that such knowledge and understanding are important for making sense of the ambiguities and complexities of political life in modern settler colonial states. Although power and privilege in the polis long have been shaped by ideas about race and its intersections with, for example, gender, class, sexuality, and disabilities – the discipline of political science has not always been in the forefront of theoretical efforts to make sense of this fundamental aspect of the human condition. It is in this context that Critical Race Theory (CRT) emerged as an important body of scholarship first in law and later across the social sciences and humanities. Rather than one perspective or approach, CRT is a constellation of theoretical standpoints that self-consciously views the ‘race question’ and questions about race and intersectionality through a critical lens, posing new questions on the persistence if not magnification of race and the ‘colour line’ in the twenty-first century and an ostensibly post-racial and colour-blind era. This course guides students through anti- racism, intersectionality, settler colonial and the implications for a decolonial politics.

Professional Female Bodybuilding: Self-Determination Theory Approach By Mark T Suffolk1 Abstract Female professional bodybuilders have received a substantial amount of scholarly and media attention. However, investigations have largely been conducted from a pathologizing perspective. This exploratory research investigated the female bodybuilding community from a positive development perspective. Thematic analysis was applied to twenty four publicly available online video interviews of female professional bodybuilders ranging in age from 29-49 years to understand the reasons as to why females take up the sport of bodybuilding, and to identify factors that contribute towards continued participation. Identified themes were framed within Self-Determination Theory. The findings indicate that pursuing bodybuilding can provide mechanisms that link the activity to psychological well-being by enhancing autonomy, competence, and relatedness.

Department of ih^UrynttL^ /Cfn^^CS^ The University of British Columbia Vancouver, Canada Date DE-6 (2/88) ABSTRACT This study aimed to build upon the literature on women's athleticism by using bodybuilding as a vehicle for exploring associations between women's muscularity, notions of gender and bodily empowerment. Feminist cultural analyses of women's bodybuilding have claimed that muscularity is constrained by gendered meanings surrounding the sport and the female body (cf. Bordo, 1993; Coakley, 1994; Schulze, 1990). The purpose was to explore how personal interpretations of muscularity by competitive female bodybuilders contributed to their definitions of gender and empowerment through the body. Three competitive female bodybuilders were recruited. Ethnographic techniques were employed, including observations of subjects' training sessions, ongoing fieldnotes, and individual in-depth interviews to uncover the women's interpretations of their muscularity, gender and bodily empowerment.

It is my great pleasure, as Chairman of the Council of Commonwealth Societies, to welcome you to this very special event. In a deeply disturbed and uneasy world, the Commonwealth family assembles once again at Westminster Abbey to celebrate and give thanks for our unity, friendship, shared purpose and values. With half of the Commonwealth’s peoples being under twenty-five, this is the family and the network in which tomorrow meets today, in which the aspiring young who are the future come together with those who have built the past and the present. Today there are forces and trends at work more powerful than any single government that are binding together the young people of all Commonwealth countries as never before—and in ways which would have astounded their forbears. A new kind of Commonwealth is emerging. Instantaneous contact, and constant and open communication unite schoolchildren and students, professional people of all kinds, sportsmen and women in every field, entrepreneurs, ideas and investors, artists and authors, faiths and friends in a daily conversation and worldwide association the like of which exists nowhere else.
