Schofield (B.Ed (Hons)NPQH) 30th January 2017 Dear Parents/Carers Y5 RESIDENTIAL TRIP TO ROBIN WOOD ACTIVITY CENTRE, TODMORDEN Monday 13th to Tuesday 14th November 2017 Following on from our successful trips over the last 2 years, I am delighted to inform you that I have confirmed our booking at The Old School Activity Centre at Robin Wood, Todmorden for our new Year 5 (currently Year 4 children), for the above dates. This will be an excellent start for the new school term and something to really look forward to! Last year’s trip was a resounding success and all the children had a great time! The aim of this residential will be to introduce children to adventurous activities such as climbing, crate stacking, archery and team work as well as being a shorter residential trip away from home (but not too far away!). I have personally visited the centre on many occasions and have been very impressed with its facilities and the small, family atmosphere I experienced. I can confirm that the cost of the trip will be £86 per child which will include transport to and from Robin Wood in Todmorden, 6 activities for your child to participate in, all meals and accommodation. A deposit of £26 is required by Friday 17th March to secure your child’s place with the remaining balance of £60 due by 15th September 2017. All payments can be made via School Money or by cash/cheque (payable to Barkisland CofE (VA) Primary School). Please note the balance can be made by instalments as shown on School Money. If your child would really like to go, but you are unable to meet the cost of the trip, please come and discuss this with me as soon as possible, in the strictest of confidence. I would be grateful if you could please complete the attached consent form and confirm which payment option you wish to choose and return to the School Office by Friday 17th March, at the latest. I have also attached a suggested Kit List, which I hope you will find useful for early preparations for the trip. Please find attached a booklet about The Old School Activity Centre at Robin Wood. I have also arranged an Information Meeting on Thursday 5th October at 3.30 pm where there will be a presentation about the trip and will be an opportunity for both parents and children to talk about the trip. The meeting will take place in the Year 5 classroom and will last no longer than 45 minutes. Working with the Diocese of Leeds and the Metropolitan Borough of Calderdale A reminder will be sent out in the new academic year. Photograph courtesy of English Heritage.] The earthworks Meg Dyke is a prehistoric settlement enclosed by a double bank with an intervening ditch. Although the site has been damaged in places by 19th century quarrying and by the construction of Scammonden Road, Meg Dyke still remains a substantial earthwork. In places the inner bank is 6.0m wide and the outer one is about 4.0m wide. Both still stand to a height of 1.0m. The ditch between the two embankments is up to 4.0m wide and 1.0m deep. A substantial part of the central area of the enclosure has been damaged by quarrying and it is therefore impossible to determine if there were any internal features Dating evidence There is no firm dating evidence for this earthwork. An excavation across the bank and ditch in 1976 only produced undiagnostic fragments of iron.
