New Bus Times Ripponden, Barkisland and area There are major changes to bus services from Sunday 25 January 2015 This guide contains new bus timetables for all buses serving Ripponden, Barkisland and the local area Sponsored by: Published by: 0 WHAT HAS CHANGED? Changes affect old routes 528, 531, 557, 559, 560. There are no changes to services 900, 901, E7 or E8. From Sunday 25 January 2015 there are significant changes to our local bus services. This means that your bus is likely to run at a different time, and it may have a different route number. Following the consultation held by Metro and the West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA), the cuts to our local services are much less than was originally proposed. Services will continue on all our routes, seven days a week, but with a number of changes. Evening services on some routes will be much reduced, and several of these evening services will be subject to ‘use it or lose it’ – see page 6. 528 to Rochdale. This service is renumbered X58. Services on Mondays to Saturdays remain hourly during the day, with a limited evening service subject to ‘use it or lose it’ – see page 6. On Sundays there will be a service every two hours during the day, but no evening service. 560. This service will remain broadly the same, generally hourly (two-hourly Sundays) but running at different times in some cases. The evening service will now run along the current 560 route. The old 531, 557 and 559 routes are replaced by a new 561/562 circular service These new services will run a long loop from Halifax along the 531 route to Ripponden and back to Halifax along the 557 or 559 route, and vice-versa. 561: Halifax – Calderdale Royal Hospital - Copley - Sowerby Bridge - Millbank - Soyland - Ripponden - Krumlin (alternate buses only) - Barkisland - Norland (alternate buses only) - Greetland - West Vale - Hospital - Halifax. 562: reverse of the 561. Buses will run the full loop, in each direction, every hour during the day, seven days a week. Note that the buses will show 561 in the anti-clockwise direction, and 562 in the clockwise direction, so your returning bus will show a different route number from the one you travelled out on. Alternate buses will run either through Norland, or through Krumlin (with no distinction in route number, so if in doubt check with the driver). In the evenings, there is a much reduced service – please see the detailed timetables. There will be no direct buses to Dean Head (except for the occasional 900), but residents there will be served by a ‘Ring and Ride’ service – see the section on page 6. Table E sets out the timetable of the new 561/562 service, and there is a map on the back cover. For full details of the changes from your bus stop, see pages 3 to 5. 1 THE TIMETABLES This guide shows the times of bus services serving Ripponden and the surrounding communities. Summary of changes page 1 Detailed changes for each area page 3 Other information page 6 Map showing all the local services back cover These tables show the times for particular journeys by grouping together certain bus routes to reflect the journeys local people will take. Each table may not include the full length of a particular bus route, but only that part relevant to the journey being shown. This is designed to complement the individual route timetables published by WYCA/Metro, available at bus stations or www.wymetro.com. On Bank Holidays special services are provided – please consult Metro for details. 2 HOW DO THE CHANGES AFFECT YOUR JOURNEY? This section explains how the changes affect your particular journey, depending on where you usually catch your bus. Buses from Commons and Rishworth Frequencies on the 560 remain broadly the same, but some timings have changed. The evening service will now run along the usual 560 route through Sowerby Bridge to/from Halifax, rather than through Barkisland as at present, on an hourly basis. See Table A for your detailed timetables to and from Ripponden and Halifax. Buses from along the Rochdale Road, Ripponden into Ripponden and Halifax. The 528 is renumbered X58. Services on Mondays to Saturdays remain hourly during the day, with a limited evening service subject to ‘use it or lose it’ – see page 6. On Sundays there will be a service every two hours during the day, but no evening service. See Table A for your detailed timetables to and from Ripponden, Halifax and Rochdale. Buses from central Ripponden. (The 900, 901 and E7 services will not be changed) Direct buses to Sowerby Bridge and Halifax – the 560 and X58 (the old 528 is renumbered X58) - will still run broadly at the same frequencies as now, but with some changes to actual timings. The old 531 service and the old 557 service have been combined into a new circular service numbered 561 in one direction and 562 in the other. See the route description on page 1 for more details. The many route changes will also result in some changes to where buses will stop in Ripponden: Ripponden to Barkisland and West Vale. With the introduction of the 561/562 circular service, service 561 buses to Barkisland and onwards to Halifax via West Vale will not use the Brig Royd bus lay-by, but will now depart from the bus shelter opposite, at the top of Priest Lane (opposite the Conservative Club). The existing 900/901 and E7 services to Barkisland and beyond will continue to use the Brig Royd bus lay-by, but it is hoped they will also stop at the Priest Lane bus shelter if requested. Ripponden to Soyland, Sowerby Bridge and Halifax. All buses in this direction (562, 560, X58) will continue to use the Brig Royd bus lay-by. See Table A for a timetable of direct services between Ripponden and Halifax. See Table D for a summary timetable of all services between Ripponden and Halifax. See Table E for the full timetable of the 561/562 circular service. 3 Buses from Soyland and Millbank. The old 531 service has been combined with the old 557/559 services into a new circular service numbered 561 in one direction and 562 in the other. This means the old route into Halifax will be 562, whilst buses coming out of Halifax on the old route will be 561. See the route description on page 1 for more details. The new service will still provide an hourly service during the day, seven days a week. There will be a limited evening service to and from Halifax on Mondays to Saturdays only, running on a ‘use it or lose it’ basis – see page 6. The circular nature of the new 561 and 562 services also now provides buses directly from Soyland and Millbank to Barkisland and West Vale. Halifax can also be reached going the ‘long way’ round the loop. The journey time to Halifax is similar in either direction, but as, on Mondays to Saturdays, buses in each direction depart from (and arrive into) Soyland within a few minutes of each other, there is no real extra benefit, other than a change of scenery. On Sundays, however, the buses from Soyland depart (and arrive) 30 minutes apart in opposite directions, thus effectively providing a half-hourly service to Halifax and Calderdale Royal Hospital. See Table E for your detailed timetables to Halifax and Ripponden, including all the 561/562 circular services. Buses from Barkisland. (The 900, 901, E7 and E8 services will not be changed) The old 557 and 559 routes have been combined with the old 531 service into a new circular service numbered 561 in one direction and 562 in the other. This means the old route into Halifax will be 561, whilst buses coming out of Halifax on the old route will be 562. See the route description on page 1 for more details. Buses to Halifax will still be hourly (but reduced in the evenings). Every other bus will run straight down Rochdale Road to West Vale, instead of travelling through Norland. In the other direction, buses to Ripponden will also be hourly, as the new circular service will run alternately straight down Elland Road to Ripponden, or through Krumlin via Ringstone Reservoir and Rishworth Road to Ripponden (there will be no service to Dean Head). These buses will also run on through Soyland and Sowerby Bridge back to Halifax, the ‘long way round’.
