Nationally known and respected for their success in coaching, playing, building programs, developing athletes and investing in young men, Mike Sherrard and Bill Redell will join a talented team of Landmark coaches in leading the War Eagles in 2019 and building a highly attractive program that develops godly character, talent, and launches athletes to the next level. Mike Sherrard joins the Landmark family as Varsity Football Head Coach. Coach Sherrard’s successful high school coaching career spans a decade and includes titles of Assistant Head Coach, Offensive Coordinator, and Wide Receivers coach. He began on the west coast in 2010 on the offensive staff at nationally recognized Oaks Christian High School and left with an overall winning record of 43-15. Other high school coaching stints included Newbury Park High School, Brentwood School, Bishop Alemany and Beverly Hills High. His former players, Baffour Osei (Vanderbilt) and Michael Pittman (USC), speak of how Sherrard led by example and was invested in their lives, on and off the field. “Coach Sherrard is a great coach and teacher, and one of the best to play receiver. He developed me into the player that I am today and taught me patience and hard work, and to always perfect my craft. Wherever he goes he makes his players better,” says Pittman. Sherrard was a walk-on at UCLA, earning both a starting position and a full scholarship by his sophomore year. Three Rose Bowl wins and setting UCLA receiving records highlight his college football career. As an NCAA All-American, the Dallas Cowboys selected Sherrard in the first round of the 1986 NFL Draft. His 11- year NFL career is marked by touchdown passes from Joe Montana, Steve Young, and John Elway and a historic Super Bowl victory on a San Francisco 49ers team that included Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, and Ronnie Lott. Sherrard worked with Fox Sports Net as a television color commentator and also cohosted “The Sports Zone” on ABC, Los Angeles for seven seasons. Sherrard boasts an impressive athletic pedigree as his father played college basketball and semipro baseball, and his mother was a member of the 1964 US Summer Olympic Track and Field Team. Sherrard is excited about the challenge of bringing his wisdom and experience to building the program at Landmark. Sherrard says, “I'm excited about the opportunity to partner with the Landmark community to develop young Christian men who will lead and impact the world. Landmark has an excellent academic reputation and we will have high standards on the football field, too. There is no place I'd rather be to mentor and lead the football program." Bill Redell will serve on the coaching staff as Strategic Advisor and Head of College Recruitment. Redell has a plethora of football knowledge and experience having played and coached at the high school, college and professional levels. As a player, Redell played quarterback, safety, and kicker. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2001 for being known as one of college football’s last Triple Threats (a player who plays offense, defense, and special teams). As a coach, Redell amassed seven CIF Championship titles in California and placed 80 players into Division 1 football programs. Redell will be inviting additional high-profile coaches to join the Landmark staff and will be essential in helping Landmark Football return to its former glory while developing young men to compete at the next level. Sherrard and Redell have created a lot of excitement ahead of their arrival at Landmark. Head of School Jason McMaster stated, “Head Coach Mike Sherrard and Bill Redell are the finest coaches with which I have had the privilege of working; and I am completely confident that with this coaching staff, area football players will want to be at Landmark to be developed.” Coach Sherrard and Redell will be attending the Landmark Info Session on Sunday, January 27 at 2.00 p.m. at the Fairburn campus. Come meet them to learn more. Landmark Christian School has campuses Coach in Fairburn and Peachtree City, Georgia and serves nearly 900 students in grades K4-12th from Fayette, Coweta, Douglas, and Fulton counties. • Joe Montana Reading Comprehension Name______
Joe Montana Reading Comprehension Name_______________________ Joe Montana is known as one of the greatest quarterbacks in the history of the National Football League (NFL). He was born on June 11, 1956, in Pennsylvania. He was offered a basketball scholarship to North Carolina State University, but ended up going to the University of Notre Dame to play football instead. In 1979, he was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the NFL Draft. Montana played as starting quarterback for the 49ers. The position of quarterback is an important one that requires leadership, quick decision-making skills, and strategy. Montana had all of the above, and he was known for bringing the team to victory even in the last few moments of the game. This earned him the nickname “Joe Cool.” Montana led the 49ers to his first Super Bowl victory in 1982. In the game before the Super Bowl, Montana threw a touchdown pass to wide receiver Dwight Clark with only 51 seconds left in the game, giving them the win. This iconic play is known as “The Catch”. The 49ers won the Super Bowl again in 1985. The following spring, the 49ers drafted Jerry Rice as a wide receiver. Rice and Montana worked well as a pair, and were a star passing combination for six seasons. With Montana on the team, the 49ers won the Super Bowl again in 1989 and 1990. However, Montana suffered an elbow injury that forced him to miss every game but one in the 1991 and 1992 seasons. By the time he had recovered, the 49ers had established a new quarterback: Steve Young.

  • The 6Th Annual Fantasy Football League Draft Will Be Held on Saturday, August 12
TO ALL FFL OWNERS: The 6th annual Fantasy Football League Draft will be held on Saturday, August 12. The NFC will draft at 7:00 and the AFC will draft at 8:30. If you don't know what conference you are in then look at the standings from last year. It will be held at the my house in Loves Park, 650 Sydney Avenue. If you can not attend, please contact me as soon as possible so that other arrangements can be made. We have made a number of rule changes this year so be sure to read through the rules that are contained here. The highlights are a reduction in rosters to 14 players per team, an increase in the entry fee to $25, only 4 teams making the playoffs from each conference, and expansion. We are adding 4 new teams to the league, two in each conference. The expansion teams throw a couple of new wrinkles into the league. First, we will have to realign the divisions in each conference; we are going to 3 divisions of 4 teams each. Also, there will be an additional expansion draft after all teams have protected their players. More later. If you have any questions or concerns, please call me at (319) 425-5421. Aaron FANTASY FOOTBALL LEAGUE TEAMS: Each team consists of 14 players. The players have one of four positions: quarterback, running back, receiver, and kicker. Each team will also have an injured reserve list that they may place a player on if the player is put on the injured reserve list by his NFL team.
