Head Coach Sherrill Smith First Season at Midway

Sherrill Smith comes to Midway after spending 30 years coaching boys’ soccer at Frankfort High School, becoming one of the top-ten winningest coaches in Kentucky. In 2014, he re- ceived several awards for his work, including Great Lakes Coach of the Year for small schools by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), Kentucky High School Soccer Coaches Association (KHSSCA) Coach of the Year and the Central Kentucky Soccer Officials Association (CKSOA) Coach of the Year.

He has coached rec and select soccer teams as well as high school boys’ and girls’ tennis, boys’ basketball, and baseball. Several of his players have received statewide awards and have gone on to successfully play soccer/tennis on the college level.

In addition to coaching, Smith has experience in athletics administration. He was Commissioner of the Kentucky All “A” State Soccer Cup Tournament from 1999-2012, has served on the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) Soccer Committee and has worked with the NSCAA.

Smith holds the Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Masters and Rank 1 in Education from Georgetown College. In addition, he holds Instructional Supervisor, Director of Pupil Personnel and Superintendent Certification from Eastern Kentucky University. He is currently the Assistant Superintendent for Frankfort Independent Schools.

Smith lives in Frankfort, Ky. with his wife of 35 years, Ruth. The couple has four children and three grandchildren.

Assistant Coach DeAngelo Wise First Season at Midway

Coach DeAngelo Wiser brings 20 years of experience as head coach of girls’ soccer at Jes- samine County, West Jessamine and East Jessamine High Schools. He has been an active member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) since 1994, and holds National and Advanced National Diplomas.

His 223 victories earned him a position among the top 10 coaches in the state of Kentucky for girls’ programs, and he led teams to four state Playoff Elite-Eights, four Regional Champion- ships, seven District Championships, and three Regional Runner-ups. Thirty-five of his players obtained college scholarships.

Wiser has been recognized for his coaching and leadership, including the Kentucky High School Girls’ Coach of the Year, Kentucky Soccer Officials Sportsmanship Team of the Year, and Sub-Section Coach of the Year. He also served on the All-State Selection Committee.

He authors Wiser Sports Leadership, a blog that has garnered national attention, including having multiple articles published by the NSCAA. He serves as a guest poster for Coaching Confidence in the United Kingdom.
