  • Availability List
PO Box 2 Thalawathugoda Sri Lanka tel: +94 71 8733 260 / +94 71 8733 262 [email protected] Availability List 10 Feb 2016 Updated Time : 08:28 PM How to Use this List This list shows what varieties are currently available and at which sizes. It’s linked real-time to our database and is updated very frequently. If an item is listed here, it’s available for our Distributors to order but they may not necessarily have that item in stock right now. If you see something you’re interested in purchasing through your favoured Distributor, you can ask them to obtain it for you. Price Categories The price categories are broadly as follows: A = inexpensive items, usually in good supply and also easy to grow. B = medium priced items, either quite rare and new or sometimes less easy to grow/produce. C = high prices items, usually new introductions currently in very short supply, and/or difficult to grow/produce. The actual prices charged by individual Distributors are likely to follow the general categories above but they are not bound by any obligations on pricing and if you wish to judge whether the price charged by a Distributor for a particular item is fair, the best way may be to compare prices between them. In countries with several Distributors, they are in competition with one another. It’s worth bearing in mind that price may not be the only factor to consider in choosing which Distributor to order from. Each Distributor receives exactly the same standard of produce from us but their costs of sale may vary a great deal depending upon how they handle the plants after receiving them.

SANBI IDentifyIt - Species Pachypodium namaquanum (Elephant's trunk, Halfmens) Family Apocynaceae CITES Listing Appendix II Common names Elephant's trunk (Eng.); Halfmens (Afr.); Club Foot. Geographic location / distribution / province Richtersveld (Northern Cape and southern Namibia) in the Gariep Region or Orange River region Distinguishing characteristics Description: A succulent plant that can attain a tree-like appearance when fully grown.Usually single-stemmed succulent plant or small tree, growing extremely slowly. The stem will grow up to 25 cm in diameter and the height may range between 1.5 and 2.5 m when fully grown; however, 4 and 5 m specimens have been observed. Stem: It has a cylindrical trunk, that thicksets at the base and tapering to the top that gives them an unmistakable bottle-like appearance when mature. The stems are mostly unbranched but may become branched from near the base or - where damaged - the trunk produces side-branches that immediately curve back to the vertical, while the very top of the plant is usually bent to the north. Spines: The stems are covered with warty tubercles (knob-like projections on the stem), from which sharp spines protrude in a slightly downward direction. The spines are more abundant along the top half of the plant and decrease toward the base where tubercles are more prominent. Fruit: Horn-like with twin pencil-thin tapering seedpods/capsules in a V-shape (joined at the base) up to 50 mm long. Short, soft and grey hairs densely cover the fruit.. These are pale brown and split down one side to release the wind- dispersed plumed seeds which are about 4mm long and are attached to a tuft of whitish hairs that act as parachutes.

PC17 Doc. 8.4 CONVENTION ON INTERNATIONAL TRADE IN ENDANGERED SPECIES OF WILD FAUNA AND FLORA ____________ Seventeenth meeting of the Plants Committee Geneva (Switzerland), 15-19 April 2007 Review of Significant Trade in specimens of Appendix-II species SPECIES SELECTED FOLLOWING COP13 1. This document has been prepared by the Secretariat. Background 2. At its 15th meeting (PC15, Geneva, May 2005), the Plants Committee agreed that, under the terms of paragraph b) of Resolution Conf 12.8 (Rev. CoP13), a review should be undertaken of trade in Aloe ferox, Christensonia vietnamica, Euphorbia candelabrum, Euphorbia stellata, Myrmecophila tibicinis, Nardostachys grandiflora, Pachypodium bispinosum, Pachypodium succulentum, Pterocarpus santalinus, Rauvolfia serpentina and Taxus wallichiana. 3. The Secretariat notified the range States of the selected species, explained the reason for this selection and requested comments regarding possible problems with the implementation of Article IV of the Convention. At PC16 (Lima, July 2006), the Committee reviewed the available information according to paragraph f) of Resolution Conf. 12.8 (Rev. CoP13) and decided to eliminate Aloe ferox, Euphorbia candelabrum, Euphorbia stellata and Nardostachys grandiflora from the review (see PC16 WG1 Doc. 1). 4. IUCN - The World Conservation Union was engaged to compile information about the biology and management of and trade in Christensonia vietnamica, Myrmecophila tibicinis, Pachypodium bispinosum, Pachypodium succulentum, Pterocarpus santalinus, Rauvolfia serpentina and Taxus wallichiana, and to provide a preliminary categorization of these species in compliance with paragraphs h) and i) of Resolution Conf. 12.8 (Rev. CoP13). 5. The Secretariat transmitted the resulting reports to the range States, which had 60 days to submit comments, as set in Resolution Conf.

Kiamo, Mindanao, Philippines. Repeated transect walks revealed 3 vegetation types, viz., Mossy-pygmy forest, Montane forest and Agro-ecosystem. A total of 251 species belonging to 82 families and 168 genera were documented. Of these, 95 species are ferns, 6 species are lycophytes, 6 gymnosperms and 144 angiosperms. Eight species are broadly distributed Philippine endemics and four are found only on Mindanao. New species and new records of plants were also documented in the area. Of the 17 threatened species recorded, 3 are critically endangered, 8 are endangered and 6 are vulnerable. Keywords: survey, threatened, endemic plants, Mindanao, Philippines 62 Asian Journal of Biodiversity Vol. 8 January 2017 INTRODUCTION The Philippines is home of about 13, 500 species of plants, comprising 5% of the world’s total of plant species (DENR/UNEP 1997) and is one of the world’s 25 biodiversity hotspots (Myers et al.

Technical Refereed Contribution Nepenthes robcantleyi: A natural hybrid Geoff Mansell • Exotica Plants • Queensland • Australia • [email protected] Wally Suarez • Luzon • Philippines Introduction This paper is a follow-up to the protologue of the newly described Nepenthes nebularum Man- sell & Suarez (2016), and presents details leading to the inevitable conclusion that N. robcantleyi (Cheek 2011) is not a species but a natural hybrid originating from a combination of N. truncata Macf (1911) and N. nebularum. In April 2013, author Geoff Mansell, corresponded with the then Acting Keeper of the Kew Gar- dens Herbarium, Dr. David Simpson to obtain clarification of the description of N. robcantleyi and a copy of the photos kept at K and PNH, which represent the wild parent and a paratype, that were used for comparison in the paper. Dr. Martin Cheek, Senior Research Leader at Kew Gardens and the author of the N. robcantleyi description, responded in kind and also commented on the topic of N. robcantleyi being a natural hybrid. Basically he said that to qualify as the missing N. robcantleyi parent a new species should at least have fringed wings, a squatter pitcher than truncata, a well de- veloped lid dome with nectar glands concentrated there, long widely spaced peristome ridges and teeth, and partial-peduncles with bracts on the inflorescence. Since this communication, N. nebularum has been described and in the above correspondence the specific traits proposed are attributed solely to a new species. However most of these are N. truncata and/or N. nebularum characteristics. Also, from what the authors have established, the characteristics that Cheek assigned solely to N.
