All Jump Start, academic and enrichment class fees are due at the time of registration. For full- and half-day Junior Camp and Summer Camp participants, a $100 nonrefundable deposit is due at the time of registration (tuition will be invoiced monthly thereafter). The cancellation deadline is May 1, 2017, although spaces will continue to be granted until courses are full. After May 1, 2017, no refunds will be issued (regardless of attendance). All classes and camps are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. On occasion we do not have enough students enrolled to fill a particular class.     SUMMER 2019 SABER FEATURE Profiles in Service CELEBRATING LONG-TIME ACADEMY FACULTY AND STAFF FROM THE BOARD CHAIR In this issue of Saber, we pay homage to long-time faculty members who have invested themselves and their careers into our cadets, their colleagues and the Academy. Like those who have served before them, these faculty have taught, inspired and shaped thousands of young men into ethical leaders in the community. Last year, we welcomed Father Mark Pavlak as chaplain at Saint Thomas Academy. Fr. Mark has also benefited from the “Brotherhood” at the Academy, finding a friend and mentor in long-time staff member Joe Seidel. Fr. Mark has worked closely with Joe on students’ spiritual development through campus ministry activities, service work and the sacristan committee. I’ve invited Fr. Mark to share his experience and how Saint Thomas Academy is guiding boys in their faith journey. Daniel E. Kubes ’87 Chair, Board of Trustees Dear friends! Well, I survived my first year of teaching morality to sophomore men (I’ll let you imagine the kinds of questions I received), but what a grace-filled year it was! Thanks in large part to the mentoring of long-time faculty members Joe Seidel, Kevin Zenner, and many others, I now have that pivotal first year under my belt. My hope for the upcoming school year is to devote more focus and attention on our Catholic identity here at Saint Thomas Academy. Here is what I offered last school year, and what I plan on offering again this coming school year: daily Mass (either before or during the school day), confessions three times a week, Father’s Club and Mother’s Club Masses each once a month, our monthly all-school Mass, and we also hope to continue our monthly Eucharistic Adoration in the chapel.

MSHSL COVID-19 Notice ● The MSHSL requires that all families with participating student-athletes receive and read the MSHSL COVID-19 Notice. This notice will also be emailed to each registered family. Health & Safety • ● The health and safety of our student-athletes and coaches remains our top priority. o ● Student-athletes and coaches must practice social distancing, at least 6 feet apart at all times, unless necessary for competition or crucial skill building. Coaches will modify drills to include social distancing. o ● Student-athletes and coaches must practice good hand hygiene, including regular hand washing and sanitizing, whenever possible. o ● Student-athletes and coaches must practice respiratory etiquette whenever possible o ● Face coverings must be worn inside the building at all times. o ● Face coverings must be worn outside at all times. o ● Sport-specific requirements and recommendations for face coverings can be found in each sport’s MSHSL Guidance and Information document. SCHOOL Visitation’s Upper School (9-12) currently enrolls 307 students. Students come from the greater Twin Cities area and are of various reli- gions, ethnicities and socio-economic backgrounds. The class of 2021 has 83 members, all of whom plan to attend a four-year college or university. Our school was founded in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1873 by the Visitation Sisters of Holy Mary, who traveled up the Mississippi River from St. Louis, Missouri, to open a school for girls in the growing state of Minnesota. Now located in the St. Paul suburb of Mendota Heights, our school traces its roots to the Original American Visitation School, which opened in 1799 in Georgetown, and the Visitation Sisters’ first monastery established in Annecy, France, in 1610. Today we occupy a beautiful, 65-acre, suburban campus that serves students in preschool through grade 12. Visitation has a co-ed Montessori preschool through grade 5. Our all-girls Middle and Upper Schools offer young women a rigorous college preparatory curriculum, renowned fine arts offerings, celebrated athletic programs and a nationally recognized robotics program.

Alex Pinkerton St. Joseph's Graduate: 2004 St. Thomas Academy: 2008 Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, major: Economics, minors: English and Political Science I very much enjoyed staying at St Joe's for both 7th and 8th grade. I feel the environment academically and socially prepared me for high school. From the beginning of high school I was enrolled in the advanced classes that STA offered and because of my academic background at St. Joe's I was always challenged, but prepared. I received three Eagle Awards (GPS 3.66 and above) and one Torch Award (3.33-3.65) during my years at STA. After high school I chose to attend Washington University in St Louis and am currently working toward Bachelor of Arts in Economics, with minors in Political Science and English. My favorite memory of St Joseph's was my entire eighth grade year. From participating in the play to the class trip to Duluth, I always enjoyed spending time with my classmates both in and out of the classroom.
