THE LONGFELLOW COMMUNITY: YESTERDAY AND TODAY St. James AME Church, at 3600 Snelling Avenue, traces its origins to the first African American church congregation established in Minnesota. Temple of Aaron Congregation, at 616 South Mississippi River Parkway in St. Paul, is affiliated with the United Synagogue Community Overview of Conservative Judaism. Becketwood is situated at the eastern edge of Minneapolis’s Longfellow Community, a corner of the city bounded by Minnehaha Park on the South, the Mississippi River on the Public Transportation East, the Midtown Greenway on the North and Hiawatha Avenue on the West. The community is named for the 19th century American poet, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Metro Transit’s Number 23 bus stops at Becketwood’s back entrance on 46th Avenue. who located his “Song of Hiawatha” at the waterfalls in Minnehaha Park. The north and west bound bus travels across Minneapolis to the city’s Uptown district, with a stop at the 38th Street Hiawatha LRT station. The south and east bound bus goes to Much of Longfellow was developed during the teens and twenties of the last century.

All Jump Start, academic and enrichment class fees are due at the time of registration. For full- and half-day Junior Camp and Summer Camp participants, a $100 nonrefundable deposit is due at the time of registration (tuition will be invoiced monthly thereafter). The cancellation deadline is May 1, 2017, although spaces will continue to be granted until courses are full. After May 1, 2017, no refunds will be issued (regardless of attendance).     Navigation Guide July 2020 This resource was created by Summer Reads VISTA members. Summer Reads is an AmeriCorps VISTA national service program of Literacy Minnesota. For 8 weeks over the summer, Summer Reads VISTA members volunteer full-time as children’s/youth literacy mentors in schools, libraries and out-of-school-time programs across Minnesota. They bring literacy to life for low-income students through a variety of activities – one-on-one tutoring, creative enrichment activities like using arts and drama to explore language or practicing vocabulary and comprehension in science and other subjects. They also connect students and parents/caregivers to community resources through wrap-around basic needs support.     SUMMER 2019 SABER FEATURE Profiles in Service CELEBRATING LONG-TIME ACADEMY FACULTY AND STAFF FROM THE BOARD CHAIR In this issue of Saber, we pay homage to long-time faculty members who have invested themselves and their careers into our cadets, their colleagues and the Academy. Like those who have served before them, these faculty have taught, inspired and shaped thousands of young men into ethical leaders in the community. Last year, we welcomed Father Mark Pavlak as chaplain at Saint Thomas Academy. Fr. Mark has also benefited from the “Brotherhood” at the Academy, finding a friend and mentor in long-time staff member Joe Seidel. Fr. Mark has worked closely with Joe on students’ spiritual development through campus ministry activities, service work and the sacristan committee. I’ve invited Fr. Mark to share his experience and how Saint Thomas Academy is guiding boys in their faith journey. Daniel E. Kubes ’87 Chair, Board of Trustees Dear friends! Well, I survived my first year of teaching morality to sophomore men (I’ll let you imagine the kinds of questions I received), but what a grace-filled year it was! Thanks in large part to the mentoring of long-time faculty members Joe Seidel, Kevin Zenner, and many others, I now have that pivotal first year under my belt. My hope for the upcoming school year is to devote more focus and attention on our Catholic identity here at Saint Thomas Academy. Here is what I offered last school year, and what I plan on offering again this coming school year: daily Mass (either before or during the school day), confessions three times a week, Father’s Club and Mother’s Club Masses each once a month, our monthly all-school Mass, and we also hope to continue our monthly Eucharistic Adoration in the chapel.

  • Capital Budget – Operations and Libraries
    Operations and Libraries Operations encompasses the policy making, administrative support and staff services necessary for the efficient and effective management of county programs. The Board of Commissioners, as the elected governing body of the county, establishes policies and programs, approves the annual budget, and appoints key officials. The County Administrator is responsible for advising the County Board and implementing approved policies and programs. The Operations departments include Commissioners and Administration, Budget & Finance, Information Technology, Real Property Group, Human Resources, Audit Compliance & Investigative Services, General County Purposes, Municipal Building Commission, Debt Retirement and Ballpark Sales Tax Revenue Programs. Letters requesting histories were sent to all public libraries in Florida with follow-up letters sent after an initial response was received from the libraries. E-mail messages were sent out to FL-LIB listservs encouraging participation in the project. A poster session was presented by Catherine Jasper at the 1998 Florida Library Association (FLA) Annual Conference, an event that marked FLA's 75th anniversary. At the end of this funding period, 89 library systems and organizations had provided histories. These have been compiled and are reproduced in this volume as submitted by participating libraries. Highlights include library founding, collections, services, budgets and expenditures, personnel, funding, survey results, technology, and developments.
