AFRAA AIR TRANSPORT REPORT 2020 Release date: May 2021 GLOBAL AIRLINE INDUSTRY PERFORMANCE The Covid 19 pandemic hit the air transport sector hard in 2020. All regions have experienced a drasc drop in traffic due to border closures and travel restricons. Both capacity and traffic dropped globally: ASKs and RPKs declined by 55% and 65% respecvely. From February 2020, air traffic recorded a drop of 31% on the Asian market and 3% on the North American market. In March the traffic is down 45% and more than 95% in April. Traffic TABLE OF CONTENTS resumed significantly from July ll October, but the recovery was hampered by the second wave of infecon during the fourth quarter of the year. Allampalli The case describes how Singapore Airlines (SIA) evolved from a fl edging player in the 1960s into an industry leader. In the process, SIA rewrote the rules for competition and earned accolades for its excellent aviation record, young fl eet of planes and a reputation for delighting customers. Bilateral air service agreements negotiated between individual nations limited the routes of a given airlines and hence the airlines’s growth. The global airlines industry responded to this challenge with a mix of acquisition, strategic alliances (for example, the STAR alliance) and related diversifi cation strategies. But would these strategies be sustainable in the near future for SIA? What course of action should SIA undertake? Associate Professor Toh Thian Ser and D. G. 27.6.2015 EN Official Journal of the European Union L 162/65 COMMISSION IMPLEMENTING REGULATION (EU) 2015/1014 of 25 June 2015 amending Regulation (EC) No 474/2006 establishing the Community list of air carriers which are subject to an operating ban within the Community (Text with EEA relevance) THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION Having regard to the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, Having regard to Regulation (EC) No 2111/2005 of the European Parliament and the Council of 14 December 2005 on the establishment of a Community list of air carriers subject to an operating ban within the Community and on informing air passengers of the identity of the operating carrier, and repealing Article 9 of Directive 2004/36/CE (1), and in particular Article 4(2) thereof, Whereas: (1) Commission Regulation (EC) No 474/2006 (2) established the list of air carriers which are subject to an operating ban within the Union, referred to in Chapter II of Regulation (EC) No 2111/2005. (2) In accordance with Article 4(3) of Regulation (EC) No 2111/2005, some Member States and the European Aviation Safety Agency (‘EASA’) communicated to the Commission information that is relevant in the context of updating that Union list. Relevant information was also communicated by certain third countries. On the basis of that information and the verifications carried out by the Commission, the Union list should now be updated. (3) The Commission informed all air carriers concerned, either directly or through the authorities responsible for their regulatory oversight, about the essential facts and considerations which would form the basis for a decision to impose on them an operating ban within the Union or to modify the conditions of an operating ban imposed on an air carrier which is included in the Union list. -

In the U.S., maJor alliance carriers are: § Oneworld – American Airlines § SkyTeam – Delta Air Lines § Star Alliance – United Airlines o New York City is served by two maJor international airports as well as an “in-town” airport that handles primarily domestic flights. § Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) • EWR is the most convenient airport to access rail transportation to Manhattan College and is a major operational center for United Airlines. • Passengers arriving at Newark Liberty may take New Jersey Transit (or Amtrak, though that is more expensive) trains to New York Penn Station where they may connect to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) #1 Train (Uptown) – the last stop on the #1 Train (Van Cortlandt Park-242 Street) is a short walk to our dormitory and registration. One possible route is as follows: o From your arrival terminal take the Newark AirTrain to the AirTrain/EWR Railroad Station (US $5.50). o At the EWR Railroad Station take the New Jersey Transit Train to Penn Station (US $7.50).
