Press Release July 28 2021 Pacific Convention Plaza Yokohama PACIFICO Yokohama to celebrate its 30th anniversary on July 29, 2021 Opened in 1991 as the core project in the Minato Mirai 21 Project On July 29, 2021, one of the largest MICE*1 facilities in Japan, PACIFICO YOKOHAMA (Official name: Pacific Convention Plaza Yokohama; Location: Nishi-ku, Yokohama; President & CEO: Katsunori Watanabe), will celebrate its 30th anniversary. PACIFICO Yokohama opened its doors in 1991 as the core project of the “Minato Mirai 21 Project” and has become a MICE hub of “Global MICE City Yokohama.” Over the past 30 years, together with the development of the city, we have hosted approximately 27,000 events and welcomed approximately 87 million visitors from Japan and overseas. PACIFICO Yokohama has been the setting for many international conferences, including APEC, TICAD, and ADB and has established a top record in Japan for hosting international conferences. On this occasion, the 30th anniversary of our opening, we have created a commemorative logo that expresses our wishes to continue to support the development of our community as a platform for knowledge sharing where people can join hands and achieve a connected world. We are also planning to hold various events in commemoration of our 30th anniversary. 30th Anniversary Logo ALL IN ONE MICE facility, PACIFICO Yokohama About the 30th Anniversary Logo The design was inspired by the shape of the three people standing shoulder to shoulder in the corporate logo as in the "the Tale of Three Navigators. Over time it has grown to 30 people, and in the face of an unprecedented crisis, we have reaffirmed the importance of “Communications among People,” and the image of hands joined in a circle with the world symbolizes our continuing determination to be a platform for “communications and knowledge sharing” towards the future. In April 2020, we opened the new PACIFICO Yokohama North, but with the entire world facing an unprecedented threat from an infectious virus, the MICE industry, which has long supported Face-to-Face interaction between people, entered a new phase. We regard our 30th Anniversary as an opportunity to innovate and create new value for everyone by proposing and implementing a new form of MICE. "While leveraging the appeal of the region from the perspective of the SDGs, we will contribute to the further development of our community by aiming to become "Asia's Only 1, No. 1 MICE facility" as the most unique convention venue in the Asia-Pacific region. <Reference> PACIFICO stands for “Pacific Convention.” The word “pacific,” which is derived from the Latin “pacificus” (“peace” in English), primarily means “peaceful” or “quiet” and is the origin of the word “Pacific.” Yokohama, where our convention center is located, has a port on the Pacific Ocean and is a door to the world in terms of world trade in Japan. Combining the key words “Pacific” and “Contribution to International Peace,” which is our corporate philosophy, we named our company “PACIFICO Yokohama,” which is fit for one of the most representative and best convention centers in Japan. The themes of our corporate logo are “Communications among People,” “Internationality,” and “Openness.” The corporate logo shows three people symbolizing “global spread of communications” and “crystallization of wisdom and creativity.” The colors used in the corporate logo - “PACIFICO blue” and “PACIFICO green” - symbolize not only the sea and the greenery in the Minato Mirai 21 District but also five continents and seven seas. Using soft color tones and lines in the corporate logo, we hope to become a global business to open new paths to the future of conventions. Just as courageous navigators sailed to discover a new world in past times, we have aspired to create a new people-to-people network in the convention business.
