2019 AHERNE SHEEHAN CLRG GRADE EXAMS

CLRG Grade Exams provide a structured framework within which dancers can progress towards an achievable goal. Dancers at all levels learn the basics of each , and are given guidance on how to improve their dancing outside of a competitive environment. The syllabus has been designed to provide a strong foundation in by developing a candidate’s physical skills, stamina, expression, and an appreciation and knowledge of the traditional and culture. It provides a worthwhile sense of achievement for individuals whether they dance solely for health, recreation, competition, or hope to pursue a career in Irish Dancing.

Grade examinations are unlike competitions in that each candidate is individually examined and receives a detailed written assessment of their performance and knowledge of the grade being attempted. They are open to both male and female candidates regardless of age and ability.

Dancers do not need to be regular feis competitors in order to participate in grade exams. In all there are 12 grades plus a Preliminary Grade. Different dances are specified for each grade. Each grade must be passed before a dancer may attempt the next grade. All candidates must produce previous reports before proceeding to higher grades. Up to three grade examinations may be taken at one time. A certificate is awarded for each grade passed. A dancer who passes all twelve grades receives The Diploma of the Irish Dancing Commission. Talk to your TCRG/ADCRG if you have questions about the grade examinations.
