CONGREGATIONAL MEETING SUNDAY MAY 22

The Elders have called for a special business meeting of SBC members on May 22 at 12:15 pm, just after second service. In accordance with our Constitution, we are seeking a membership vote of approval to increase our 2011 budget by $5,265. This will allow us to fund salary for the Youth/Worship Intern position for July through Decem- ber. Our present budget funds this position for only the first half of the year (at $5,265). If approved, this intern position will continue to be filled by John Mangiameli.

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTANNOUNCEMENTSS . . .

From the Christian Education Director

I had my first meeting as the CE Director with our Sunday School staff for our children 2 years thru 6th grade. What a wonderful group of teachers and helpers they are! They range in age from 15—65+. Some have taught S.S. for over 40 years! All love the Lord and love the children. They present God’s Word with a gospel message weekly, all the while making this a fun and loving place to be each Sunday morning. From the bottom of my heart I thank each and every teacher and helper. I hope each of you will take the time to thank them for their love for our children.

Dave Thomas

P.S. If you have a special craft skill that you could share with the children one Sunday during the year, please contact me or Rita Anderson. Thank You.

MISSIONARY HOUSING NNEEDEDEEDED Larry & Susan Weil, our missionaries in Mozambique, will be home on furlough from October 2011 to May 2012 and would like a two bedroom apartment or house. If you can meet this need, please contact Wayne Anderson 683-4548

HEART ––– TO ––– HEART “…teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.” Titus 2:3-5 (NIV)

Donna and I will be on sabbatical for the months of May through July: this is the first time I have had one and we are very grateful. We will be pulling our trailer as we visit family in Oregon, California and Missouri. This will be a time of physical and spiritual renewal for us as we visit different churches, read, and study. I hope to return with fresh energy and vision to apply to this wonderful Church. We love you all very much. I have been working with Pastor Shane, the Elders and staff to ensure a smooth transition and I am con- fident that they are well prepared. I am also confident that all ministries and committees will continue their efforts for our Lord. As always, the office is a good place to start if you have questions. Pastor Shane and the Elders will, of course, also be available. The Elders have set up a rotating schedule to be available for visitation or other needs.

You will be in our prayers, and we likewise will appreciate your prayers for us. May God bless you. Love, Pastor Dave

MISSIONS

SALUDOS FROM YAKIMA May and June 2011

Dear Brethren:

We praise God for all of you. We have seen God's blessings and mercy because of the wonder- ful way you have ministered to us; both in prayer and financial support. We are blessed to have a "Family of God" like you. We are still in need of much prayer as Maria has 2 more chemo infusions to go. Praise God! Praise God also for faithful servants! The Edgewood Baptist Church in Edmonds, WA. has been coming to the Yakima Valley since 1997, to help with the Hispanic churches. Every year during Spring break, they have VBS with the Hispanic children in the Harrah area. We thank God for the youth Pastor and teens that worked so hard to make the VBS such a great success.

Pastor Pedro Herrera (left) Edgewood youth group with Pastor Dave Anderson, (right) Hispanic children in Harrah, 2011 Edgewood’s youth pastor Please pray for: 1. Our health and strength as we continue to serve God. 2. To be able to plant more Hispanic churches here in the Northwest. 3. Our children and their families as we walk together through this journey called: “cancer”. "For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory" 2 Corinthians 4:164:16----18181818 In His hands always,

The Cordovas May 11, 2011 Voice for Christ Ministries

Dear Friends and Family: One year has come since Bob has gone to be with our Lord and I am grateful for your prayers and love shown to me and our family. "For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows" (2 Corinthians 1:5). Contrary to popular opinion, the goal of your faith is not to be rich, healthy and powerful. God does bless you and answer your prayers, but you must remember that eternity is more important than anything on Earth. As a memorial and tribute —I thought it fitting to share the ministry’s written History of Voice for Christ Ministries. THE HISTORY OF VOICE FOR CHRIST MINISTRIES, INC Voice for Christ Ministries, Inc. is a non-profit Christian organization dedicated to reaching the people of Alaska with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The first Alaska missionaries took the Gospel by dog team in the winter and boat in the summer to Alaska villages. Bob & Dolores came to Alaska and began their ministry serving with Victory Bible Camp. They then began an itinerant flying ministry to Interior Alaska villages with Arctic Missions. Weather often prevented flying into villages to share the Good News of Christ. Bob felt led of the Lord to consider radio as a more consistent way to better send the Gospel message to interior Alaska villages and homesteaders. Radio can reach Interior Alaska whatever the weather.

The Eldridges began the development of a Christian radio station in 1980 which included trips to the lower 48 to seek support and to generate interest in a radio outreach. The Lord showed His involvement by their immediate receipt of the building permit-- a process that often takes two years. VFCM was incorporated on September 7, 1983 in Nenana, AK. KIAM went on the air on June 28, 1985 at 1270 AM KHz--the last day allowed by the construction permit. During November 1986, KIAM changed frequencies to 630 AM KHz and raised the transmission tower to 250 feet to increase the listening area. Another 50 feet was added in August 1990, raising the tower to 300 feet. On May 1, 1995 KIAM raised the power to 10KW during the day and 3.1 KW at night, again increasing the listening area.

The Lord allowed VFCM to purchase radio station KYKD in Bethel, Alaska, November 1996. KYKD went on the air as an inde- pendent satellite affiliate station of KIAM on April 1, 1995 with 3 KWs of power. In October 1996, the power was increased to 7.9 KW. KYKD is able to reach 35 villages in the area and about 50,000 people. The great majority are Eskimos and Indians plus over 1,000 Koreans. As of November 2004 we have a manned station also in Big Lake/Houston Alaska - just outside of Anchorage. VFCM's mission emphasis to reach the people of Interior and Western Alaska with the gospel of Jesus Christ led to the planning, purchase, and installation of satellite communication equipment using the SBS5 geosynchronous satellite. Use of this satellite makes it possible to reach almost every village in Alaska and even some areas in the "lower 48". VFCM successfully installed the first satellite "Downlink" in the village of Bettles and the "I AM" network officially went on the air March 27, 1997. "Downlink" stations went on the air at Ruby and Bethel a few days later. The months of problems to achieve the satellite network reveal Satan is fighting very hard to keep the Gospel of Jesus Christ from reaching the villages of interior and western Alaska.

We are now broadcasting 24 hours a day 7 days a week with 4 stations and 17 satellite downlinks throughout Alaska. The work of Voice for Christ Ministries is continuing. Perhaps you would consider being a part of what the Lord Jesus Christ is doing in Alaska to bring people to Himself. With love, appreciation and prayer, Dee Eldridge

Greetings from Tokyo! Hmmm, managed to miss all of April as far as updates go. Today, it's two months since the disaster. Aside from cutting back on electricity use, Tokyo is pretty much back to normal. Up in the disaster area, it is still anything but normal. Thankfully, supplies are readily available throughout the region. No one is starving, medical needs are largely being cared for.

Personally, Aileen and I have been doing pretty well, keeping busy with the work the Lord's given us here. But one of the reasons I have time to write today is that I'm back in the hospital for tests. They wanted to go in and see how my coro- nary arteries are doing. The angiogram was this morning, and unfortunately the results are not great. In spite of blood work and other tests all come back A+, the stents they've put in are clogging up again. At this point, it seems to be more of my body being incompatible with the kind of stents they used. My doctor is going to consult with some other specialists and then talk with us about a treatment plan. This messes with the timing of our furlough, so we're going to have to figure that out, decide whether to keep han- dling treatment here, take a medical leave to the US, etc., etc. More decisions! More prayer needed! Blessings, Tim and Aileen Selander PRAYER CORNER . . .

Tiny Teachers

Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! Prov. 6:6

A spindly ant arrests a worm from destroying a farmer’s corn. As he carries the parasite away, the ant’s fuzzy legs transfer pollen to waiting silks. On the journey home the ant cordially rubs antennae with a brother car- rying a seed to a new place of germination. Our little friend skillfully places his worm deep inside tunnels that aer- ate the soil. All said, ants are more civilized, more industrious, more dependable, and as a species they benefit the earth more than humans do. In many places they outweigh us in biomass. Yet in our pride we disregard the ant as a nuisance to our essential existence.

If we could ask an ant the secret of life he would tell us, “Simplify. You humans rush over the outer shell of life chasing quantity over quality, and you never get to the sweet nut God intended for you. Slow down, accom- plish less trivia, and simply know God.”

In my quiet time this morning I experimented with the ant’s advice. I landed in the basic verses of Romans 5 about peace with God. I have read this passage so many times my eyes tried to jump to what was next. Heeding the ant, I went back to better process the words. The Holy Spirit sent fresh insights. I saw a deeper contrast be- tween the hateful dissention I once had with God and the loving peace I now enjoy in Christ.

We say we understand a concept like peace with God, and because of the laziness of our minds we shun further consideration. Our brains are limited, restless organs that require discipline toward fuller understanding of familiar truth. The ant’s wisdom gives the Spirit an opportunity to take us beyond our intellect and into spiritual knowledge.

I can hear the ant now, his antennae twitching with intensity, “Be still before the Lord. Listen to him sing miles of truth through millimeters of experience.”

Prayer: “Lord, I repent of my boisterous living. Grant me a quiet attentive heart.”
