ACTING CONSERVATORY Curriculum Conservatory Overview The Acting Conservatory offers comprehensive acting and movement training to Acting for the Camera talented students with aspirations of careers on stage or in film and television. Students Acting Fundamentals learn all aspects of the craft of acting, from the fundamentals to advanced techniques, Audition Technique including acting for the camera, improvisation, theatre history, movement for actors, Business of the Business classical Shakespeare, stage combat, singing and dance for actors, voice and speech, Classical Shakespeare and audition technique. This program is tailored for young actors interested in advancing Combat their dramatic acting skills. The conservatory focuses on developing healthy technique, Improvisation experiencing various styles, learning about the history of the craft, and preparing Movement for Actors students for further study and/or a career in the arts. Play Reading Production Guest Artists/Master Teachers Singing and Dance for Actors Students are exposed to renowned guest artists, university faculty, and industry leaders, Stage Combat who visit the school’s campus to share their expertise and creativity through residencies, Theatre History master classes, lectures, performances, presentations, and hands-on training. Meet the Acting Conservatory Leadership Team John Walcutt Faculty Advisor, Acting John Walcutt is the Faculty Advisor of the Acting Conservatory for California School of the Arts (CSArts) and the Director of the Acting Conservatory at Orange County School of the Arts (OCSA). Mr. Walcutt has an extensive performance resumé and more than thirty years of experience as an educator. He has held nearly 200 SAG principal roles on television and in films. He has worked with landmark TV directors such as Michael Landon, William Shatner, Lamont Johnson, Steven Bochco, David E. Kelley, JJ Abrams, and Paul Haggis. Mr. Walcutt's television work includes roles on The Newsroom, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Grey's Anatomy, LOST, Criminal Minds, Ghost Whisperer, and The Practice. His film work includes roles in Titanic, Seabiscuit, Little Miss Sunshine and voiceover work for Mulan and The Emperor's New Groove. Mr. Walcutt has also held roles in more than 50 equity plays, including work with Tony-winning directors and theatres, such as South Coast Repertory Theatre, La Jolla Playhouse, and The Old Globe Theatre. He has written, directed and produced a variety of award-winning film and television projects throughout the past twenty years. Mr. Walcutt currently serves as Producing Artistic Director of Shakespeare Orange County, where he is responsible for programming, producing, planning, and directing the season. As an educator, Mr. Walcutt has served as an adjunct professor at MiraCosta College, and Cal State Fullerton, and has also held leadership and teaching roles with Chapman University, Macker Entertainment, Actors Playpen, Stages Theatre Center, and Old Globe Theatre. Mr. Walcutt holds an MFA from the University of Southern California Professional Actor Training Program for Film and Theatre. He has also trained with the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, The Strasberg Institute, and Emmy Award winner Jeffrey Tambor..
