REELLEEEXCCTX GERMANY MAAYYOR OF UNION FOR HONEST,T, DEPENDABLE, EXPERIENCED LEADERSHIP The Neshoba Democrat, Philadelphia, Miss., March 24, 2021, 1B Hardy planning to travel during retirement By SARAH KATHRYN WATKINS [email protected]

ommie Hardy is a Philadelphia native and grew T up with her broth- er, sister, and par- ents, Cecil and Audrey Hem- bree. "It was my responsibility while growing up always to cut the grass," Hardy said. She attended Philadelphia High School, where she played basketball and ran track. Hardy then went to East Central after she graduated from Philadel- phia High School, took a few courses and then got married to Jerry Hardy. Hardy didn't know much about cooking until she got married. Her mother-in-law, Sadie Hardy, taught her how to cook gravy, butter beans, and other southern delicate foods. Jerry and Tommie Hardy have two sons Shane and Josh Hardy. Both of her sons have moved away from Philadel- phia. Shane Hardy works with International Paper in Colum- bus and Josh Hardy is a foot- ball coach in Florida. She has six granddaughters, and when she gets the chance, she visits her sons and granddaughters. Her granddaughters range from the age 11 to 19. Tommie and Jerry Hardy have been married for 54 years and she recently retired after 43 years Yates Construction as the Corporate Accounting Manager. "I have a camper ready to go when the time comes," said Hardy. The couple loves to travel and even spent a week in Ire- land. They plan to travel a lot more now that they are retired. Hardy also recently got a new dog that she has fallen in love with and considers her the baby. The couple attends church at East Philadelphia where Hardy has played the piano for 50 years and her hus- band is a decan. She also sings in the choirs. When Hardy's sons were growing up, they both played ball. Sometimes the family found it easy to get a burger after the game. "Both of my sons were picky eaters, one would want spaghetti, and the other would Tommie Hardy want chicken nuggets," Hardy said.
