So, I thought I would ask her to write about her experience as a graduate student, and how her education at U of Manitoba helped her settle well and be successful at U of Michigan. Nariman Sepehri (Associate Head, Graduate Studies) Reflections by Sara Spangelo As I write this article, I’ve been spending a good deal of time reflecting about where I am, and how I got here. I’ve just completed my qualifying exam at the University of Michigan, so I am now considered a PhD candidate. When academics hear you’re prepping for this exam, they respond smiling sympathetically (glad they’ve jumped through this hoop in their academic careers), well aware how overwhelming this study experience lasting several months can be. But this was just the end of a long haul of changes, learning experiences, and whole new set of challenges I’ve faced over the past year and a half. I left Manitoba following the completion of my undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2008 to first pursue a summer internship at the University of Toronto Institute of Aerospace Studies (UTIAS) and then attend grad school in the Aerospace Department at the University of Michigan.

Relationship with Other University Music Society. Universities Canadian Mennonite University is authorized by the Province of Manitoba to grant degrees, having received its charter in 1998. This legislation attests to the quality of the half-century record of Mennonite post-secondary institutions in Manitoba. In Fall of 2008 CMU became a member of the Universities Canada (formerly AUCC). This association represents ninety- four public and private universities and colleges, both in Canadian contexts and abroad. The association establishes membership in AUCC will mean greater access for its faculty to research funding, and for students it will facilitate transfer of credit to other member institutions and admission to professional and graduate schools. Though Canada does not have a nation-wide, formal process or agency for accrediting universities, accreditation is practiced in reference to a number of factors. In general, it is based on criteria recognized by Canadian universities and colleges, such as faculty competence, accepted academic policies and procedures, standards of instruction, and standards of student achievement.
