No part of this survey may be reproduced without permission The comparative employment of men and women as actors, directors and writers in the UK theatre industry, and how new writing features in venues’ programming Period 1: 16 – 29 January 2006 (inclusive) Section A: Actors, Writers, Directors and New Writing. For the two weeks covered in Period 1, there were 140 productions staged at 112 venues. Writers Of the 140 productions there were: 98 written by men 70% 13 written by women 9% 22 mixed collaboration 16% (7 unknown) 5% New Writing 48 of the 140 plays were new writing (34%). Of the 48 new plays: 30 written by men 62% 8 written by women 17% 10 mixed collaboration 21% The greatest volume of new writing was shown at Fringe venues, with 31% of its programme for the specified time period featuring new writing. New Adaptations/ New Translations 9 of the 140 plays were new adaptations/ new translations (6%). RECRUITMENT PACK Assistant Stage Manager / Book Cover (Fixed Term, Full-time) ASSISTANT STAGE MANAGER / BOOK COVER The Prince of Egypt opened at the Dominion Theatre, London in February 2020 and performances continued until the closure of all West End theatres on 16 March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Following a re-rehearsal process and technical recommissioning in June we are planning to reopen at the Dominion Theatre on Thursday 1 July 2021. Featuring a company of more than 60 artists, The Prince of Egypt is one of the biggest musicals on the West End. Delivering each performance involves more than 100 people backstage, including stage management, automation, sound, video, wardrobe, wigs and chaperones; working closely with the Dominion Theatre team. We are looking for an experienced Assistant Stage Manager / Book Cover to join our busy Stage Management department of 6 staff. Ideal candidates will have a passion for technical theatre, be detail orientated, highly organised, empathic, work well with large teams and have a flexible approach to working unsociable hours. The COVID-19 pandemic has severely impacted the theatre industry, it is of the utmost importance that all of The Prince of Egypt staff attend COVID-19 health and safety training, follow all guidance and regulations as instructed and take personal responsibility for their safety as well as the safety of our colleagues and our audiences. NEWS ALERT: BFI celebrate Star Wars Day – Saturday 13 December Tuesday 28 October 2014, London As part of the BFI’s three-month blockbuster season, Sci-Fi: Days of Fear and Wonder presented together with O2, the BFI will be celebrating STAR WARS DAY on Saturday 13 December 2014, with special guests to be announced in due course. As the UK continues to play a major role in the production of JJ Abrams’ forthcoming STAR WARS film, the BFI are taking audiences back to the very beginning with a very special day dedicated to the mother of all Space Operas. STAR WARS DAY on Saturday 13 December 2014 will comprise of screenings of the special editions of STAR WARS EPISODE IV: A NEW HOPE (1977), STAR WARS EPISODE V: THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK (1980) and STAR WARS EPISODE VI: RETURN OF THE JEDI (1983), plus special guests (TBA). Prizes will be given to audience members who dress to impress, and at the end of the night there will be a themed DJ set and space inspired cocktails in benugo, which will be transformed into the BFI’s own Mos Eisley Cantina. Throughout the Sci-Fi season fans will also be able to take a look behind the scenes with a unique exhibition. ON-SET: STAR WARS EPISODE IV: A NEW HOPE (Until 4 Jan, BFI Southbank Atrium) will provide a rare opportunity to see one of the treasures of the BFI National Archive: an original shooting script for EPISODE IV: A NEW HOPE. The script was donated to the BFI by the film’s continuity supervisor Ann Skinner, and as such includes extensive shooting notes, deleted scenes and unique Polaroid photographs which give a fascinating insight into the making of the film.
