CELEBRATING Last Half Term Welcome to the first edition for 2018-19 of our ALNS magazine, Latitude! A very warm welcome back to school to all of our students and an especially warm welcome to our Year 7 students, who I hope are enjoying the excitement of the start of their first term as part of the ALNS family. It is great to see everyone well-rested after their well-deserved summer break, looking smart and wearing our school uniform with pride, all set to face the challenges of the coming year. I am absolutely thrilled at the way in which staff and students are really enjoying the move to vertical tutoring and being part of their new Houses, which has already enhanced the ‘family feel’ of our school this term. We will continue to have the very highest expectations of every one of our students in an inclusive, supportive environment that empowers every child to achieve their very best at ALNS! Once again, we are pleased by the performance of all of our students in their end of year exams, but especially by last year’s Year 11 who maintained the high standards we have come to expect at ALNS. GCSE English and Mathematics performance is always a real strength here; 79% of our Year 11 students gained a higher GCSE grade pass (grades 9-4) in English and over two thirds of all students gained a higher GCSE grade pass (grades 9-4) in Mathematics! Exam performance in many subject areas was impressive and, as usual, our GCSE results exceeded the national average, proving that our excellent reputation in Portsmouth (and nationally!) remains well deserved indeed! As the first school in England to be awarded the prestigious Artsmark Platinum Award for a second time, you will not be surprised that our students continue to excel across all aspects of the Arts here at ALNS. -

I believe that at the heart of our success are three key factors. The first is the dedication of our staff, who are all wholly determined to do whatever it takes to get the best possible outcomes for every single one of our students. This involves nurturing every child and tracking their progress to make sure that they are on track and that we are bringing out the best in them. Portsmouth Education Partnership (PEP) Careers Network Terms of Reference 1. Introduction The group will support the implementation of the Portsmouth Education Strategy 2020-2023, contributing to the vision and overall themes of the strategy. Our vision as outlined in the Portsmouth Education Strategy is that through working together we can ensure that: All children and young people make good progress through education which sets high expectations for them, is infused with restorative high support and high challenge and which is supported through leading edge use of digital technology, empowering them to drive their own learning anywhere. A central theme of the PEP strategy is inclusion - creating an educational environment that is welcoming to all children and young people and not giving up on any child whatever their circumstances. The strategy will also have running through it a commitment to engage with schools and partners to develop and share anti-racism training and resources in response to Black Lives Matter. 2.
