Administrative History In 1965, Information Services assumed the responsibilities of the Information Office which had existed from 1955 to 1965. Like its predecessor, the mandate of Information Services focused on the dissemination of information to the public by arranging interviews with the news media, promoting participation in television and radio broadcasts, and preparing news releases for all potential news outlets. The office published UBC Reports, and produced UBC Now, a weekly half-hour television series which chronicled university activities. Information Services continued until 1985 when its public relations functions were assumed by Community Relations. Scope and Content Fonds consists of the following series: Biographical Files (1945-1973), Subject Files (1939- 1978), Annual Reports (1969-1974), UBC Publications Survey (1975-1977), Speeches - John B. MacDonald (1962-1967), Miscellaneous Subjects (1963-1983), Sound and Moving Images (1968-1983), Photographs (1969-1980), and "News from UBC" (1966-1974). The Miscellaneous subjects series includes materials pertaining to UBC's participation in "Habitat" (the 1976 United Nations Conference on Human Settlement), and the Commonwealth University Congress (1978). Series Descriptions Biographical Files. -- 1945-1973. 39 cm of textual records. Series consists of C.V.s, press releases, and newspaper clippings pertaining to UBC professors who have died or left the University, as well as visiting speakers and alumni. Series arranged alphabetically. Subject Files. -- 1939-1978. 14.82 m of textual records. Series consists of newspaper clippings, press releases, pamphlets, and magazine articles pertaining to a wide range of topics. Series arranged alphabetically by topic. Annual Reports series. -- 1960-1974. 19 cm of textual records. Series consists of annual departmental reports. UBC Publications Survey. -- 1975-1977. 1 m of textual records. Series consists of course outlines, laboratory manuals, public handouts, and research and technical papers collected by Information Services as part of a survey carried out between 1975 and 1977.
