For most students September is filled with excitement and anticipation, but for some children, after a summer of feeling carefree and safe, they approach the new school year with trepidation and fear – it’s a return to feeling bullied, targeted and persecuted. When children feel unsafe, they are unable to concentrate; they exhibit emotional and social problems; and oftentimes they struggle in school. It’s important that we make sure our schools – our classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds and buses - are safe environments, free from taunting, teasing, bullying, harassment and discrimination.
