En la región Madre de Dios, es necesario seguir analizando los procesos de .cambios climáticos provenientes de la explotación de los recursos mineros, los recursos forestales, recurso castaña, etc.; Estos presentan un cambio a nivel socio - económico y ambiental en la región. Las perturbaciones naturales y los cambios climáticos se adicionan a los factores ambientales cambiantes provocando el dinamismo en la estructura y composición de los bosques; ésta es una razón para la realización del estudio de familia Apocynaceae y 'Melastomataceae en áreas pertenecientes a la Universidad Nacional de San Antonio Abad del Cusco. La ciencia y la investigación tienen un compromiso en cuestionar y buscar alternativas para una estabilidad ambiental, viabilidad económica y una respuesta social hacia las nuevas condiciones ambientales~ Por otro lado la composición florística en ambas áreas de estudio está determinada por los factores ambientales como posición geográfica, clima, suelos, topografía, dinámica del bosque y la ecología de sus especies. Una de las características más relevantes de los bosques tropicales húmedos en general es su alta diversidad de especies vegetales, tanto arbóreas, arbustivos y hierbas. -

Morton* The Pennsylvania State University, Pesticide Research Lab, University Park, PA 16802, USA Received 30 May 1997; Accepted 22 July 1997 Abstract Hydroxylated pipecolic acid derivatives of 47 species of Inga were analyzed primarily from herbarium leaf samples supplemented by field collections. Inga species are noted for their morphological variability, which has resulted in considerable taxonomic confusion. Pipecolic acid chemistry appears to be a relatively stable character within species, and the large number of pipecolic acid derivatives translates to greater intraspecific diversity in chemical patterns (18 distinct hydroxypipecolic acid patterns) than previously found in related genera. This chemical diversity makes pipecolic acids particularly useful in solving taxonomic problems in this genus; problems such as identification of distinct species with convergent morphology and identifica- tion of mislabeled herbarium specimens. Chemistry provides data independent of morphology with which to assess recent changes in nomenclature (some of which are supported, others not) and may also be useful in the assessment of hybridization and in delimitation of proper species boundaries. At present our chemical knowledge is too fragmentary to allow strong statements regarding relationships above the species level, but there is a trend for taxa traditionally grouped on morphological criteria to share similar chemistries. Several species of this family are known to possess indole alkaloids and other classes of secondary me- tabolites, whereas terpenoids, an inositol and the indole alkaloids harmane-3 acid and braznitidumine have been described in A. nitidum. In the present study, extracts from the wood bark, leaves and branches of this species were prepared for assays against malaria parasites and cytotoxicity testing using human hepatoma and normal monkey kidney cells. The wood bark extracts were active against Plasmodium falciparum and showed a low cytotoxicity in vitro, whereas the leaf and branch extracts and the pure alkaloid braznitidumine were inactive. -

This knowledge has been transmitted orally from 3 1 generation to generation. Introduction 1.1 INTRODUCTION Northwestern Amazonian forest conservation: a challenge for ecologists The actual deforestation rates in Amazonian rain forests are extremely high. The worst case scenario could lead to an almost total disappearance of the largest tropical forest mass that nowadays exists on the earth, in a relatively short time (Laurance et al. 2001). Patterns of rain forest plant diversity in northwestern (NW) Amazonia have particular importance as plant diversity in this area reaches exceptional high values per unit area (Gentry 1988a, Valencia et al. 1994, ter Steege et al. 2003). To guarantee an effective conservation planning, basic knowledge on the distribution of individual species and species assemblages is necessary. In spite of the fact that information concerning to plant communities has much increased in the last decade, most studies have focused on trees because they are the most conspicuous elements in the forests (Gentry 1988b, Duivenvoorden 1995, 1996, Pitman et al. 1999, 2001, ter Steege et al. 2000, Condit et al. 2002). However, it is well known that vascular plant diversity in tropical rain forests is also well represented by other growth forms, such as climbers, shrubs, epiphytes and herbs (Gentry and Dobson 1987, Duivenvoorden 1994, Balslev et al. 1998, Galeano et al. 1998). In addition to this lack of knowledge on non-tree growth forms, most studies have been based on different methodological approaches at individual species or community level, different sample designs, and different spatial scales, which hampers the comparisons and extrapolations among independent case studies. The Pleistocene and Miocene-Pliocene climate history has been considered as the cornerstone to understand the origin of the plant and animal biodiversity and biogeography in Amazonian rain forests (Haffer 1969, Colinvaux 1987, Van der Hammen and Absy 1994, Hooghiemstra and van der Hammen 1998). -

PRESENTACION La aplicación de los planes de manejo forestal en los bosques naturales de la Amazonía Peruana, constituye el emprendimiento técnico que se realiza en el intento de aprovechar sosteniblemente los recursos forestales y de fauna silvestre, en un escenario que por sus características naturales es difícil, por la complejidad florística que contiene. Una característica de los bosques tropicales es su complejidad y heterogeneidad en cuanto a su composición florística, se estima que en la amazonia peruana existen alrededor de 2,500 especies forestales, de las cuales, en diverso grado, han sido estudiadas con fines industriales unas 250 especies aproximadamente. En la actualidad, el comercio nacional de maderas, se limita a 120 especies maderables, de las cuales sólo 20 han sido debidamente estudiadas e identificadas, por lo que un elevado porcentaje son considerados como maderas corrientes. Para confirmar lo señalado anteriormente, nuestros resultados de supervisión y fiscalización de títulos habilitantes otorgados por el Estado, vienen advirtiendo de manera recurrente, la comercialización de volúmenes maderable que ingresan al mercado como maderas corrientes, tal como ocurre en la jurisdicción de Selva Central, donde las especies no identificadas, comercialmente son denominadas “roble”.
