Cory Gardner holding an insignificant one point lead over first-term incumbent Mark Udall. In the race for Governor, incumbent John Hickenlooper holds a 7 point lead over former Congressman Bob Beauprez who is making his second run for this office. In the election for U.S. Senate, Colorado voters who are likely to cast a ballot next month divide their vote – 47% for Republican challenger Cory Gardner and 46% for Democratic incumbent Mark Udall. Another 4% say they will vote for a different candidate and 3% remain undecided. In the race for Colorado Governor, 50% of likely voters support Democratic incumbent John Hickenlooper and 43% support GOP challenger Bob Beauprez. Another 3% say they will vote for a different candidate and 4% remain undecided. All major party candidates have strong support among their partisan bases. Specifically, 93% of Democrats support Hickenlooper for governor and 92% support Udall for senator, while 85% of Republicans support Beauprez and 86% support Gardner. Independent voters in Colorado have a clearer preference for one office than they do for the other. Independent voters support Hickenlooper over Beauprez by a 53% to 35% margin in the race for governor, but split their vote for senator 43% for Udall and 42% for Gardner.

In your letter, you express concerns that the overall mission ofthe CAF II program could be endangered if the Commission increases the current broadband speed benchmark for program recipients to 10 Mbps downstream /1 Mbps upstream without allowing flexibility in other elements of the program, and suggest several proposals to provide such flexibility. I agree with you that high-speed broadband access is an essential component for economic growth in rural communities. In less than a month’s time, voters in Colorado will go to the polls to decide whether or not they wish to give their incumbent Senator, Democrat Mark Udall, another term, or instead, opt for his Republican challenger, Cory Gardner. Courtenay Daum takes a close look at what is proving to be a very close election race and one that might well decide which party controls the Senate. She writes that low ratings for President Obama and the fact that 2014 is an off year election may work against Udall, but that Gardner is also trailing in fundraising. She argues that the race may well come down to which candidate is best able to get the vote out, especially among core supporters and independents. Colorado’s Senate race between Democratic incumbent Mark Udall and Republican challenger Cory Gardner is one of the closest in the nation. Recent polls indicate that Gardner may have a slight advantage but the race remains too competitive to make any definitive predictions. The Colorado Senate race should be of interest for two significant reasons. First, party control of the U.S. Senate will be decided by the outcome of this and a handful of other close Senate races.     May 8, 2019 Dear Senator/Representative, Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s recent report concluded that, “The Russian government interfered in the 2016 presidential election in a sweeping and systematic fashion.” That is unacceptable, and it must be addressed immediately so that it never happens again. We, the undersigned, as members of Issue One’s ReFormers Caucus — a coalition of former members of Congress, governors, and Cabinet officials representing all fifty states and both political parties — are writing to urge you to hold hearings on and pass the bipartisan Honest Ads Act as a first step toward strengthening our election security ​ ​ ​ and ensuring that interference is much less likely in the future. In addition, Congress should consider legislation — some of which has already been introduced — that addresses other areas of concern raised by the Mueller Report, specifically dark money, foreign expenditures, and the definition of campaign coordination. Our commitment to defending the national security of the United States crosses partisan and ideological divides. Many of us served in a branch of the armed forces, oversaw national security while serving in Congress, or directed an agency charged with preventing domestic and foreign attacks against the United States. Over the last two years, the Intelligence Community and the House and Senate Intelligence Committees have agreed that foreign actors interfered in the 2016 U.S. elections — and that hostile enemies and opponents of democracy around the world will likely try again. These bad actors will continue to infect some of the largest internet platforms in order to divide and weaken the country. As former elected officials, we believe now is the time for lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to address the growing cybersecurity challenges presented by Russia, China, Iran, and non-state actors.
