Public Session 1. Paul Goldstein (Assemblymember Deborah Glick) . The Assembly Member continues to work on issues pertaining to schools in the district. 2. Andrew Hamingson (Lower Manhattan Cultural Council) . Introduced himself as new LMCC President. He took office 2 months ago. River to River festival begins in June with many events in a variety of locations. The first performance will take place on June 15. 3. Assemblymember Alice Cancel . Introduced herself as the newly elected Assemblymember. Will work to make the government more supportive of community needs. Intends to work with other elected officials to increase residential representation on the BPCA board. 4. Eric Mayo (Senator Daniel Squadron) . DOT Lower Manhattan Commissioner’s office is expected to be discontinued soon. The Senator is seeking a way to continue some of its functions. May 15 from 2-5pm is the Senator’s annual Community Convention. Bruce Ehrmann thanked Senator Squadron for his efforts following the Tribeca crane collapse. 5. Jenna Jaffe (Representative Jerrold Nadler) . Supportive of email privacy legislation that passed the House. Working with authorities on NRDC funding. 6.     NWPC-NYC Message From The President: Sharon Nelson, NWPC- NYC Dear Members and Friends What a historic and exciting summer this has been so far. We witnessed two very different and explosive conventions - each one with its own unique and compelling appeals. On the Democratic front, Michelle Obama's amazing speech brought down the house with comments that included mention of her life in the White House, a house built by slaves and where her daughters are able to play on the lawn with their dogs, a speech only matched in intensity by Khizr and Ghazala Khan's emotional tribute to their son US Army Captain Humayun Khan who died protecting his squad in Iraq. The Khans also spoke of the sacrifices of the many American patriots of different faiths and ethnicities that lie in graves at Arlington Cemetery as they took issue with Trump's proposed ban on Muslim immigration. At the Republican convention, Patricia Smith's passionate speech about the loss of her son US Information Management Officer Sean Smith, who died in the attack on the US Embassy in Benghazi, had the delegates in tears. Ms Smith was part of the platform's insistence that the current administration had left the nation weak and vulnerable. It was later that former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani was able to fire up the convention, bringing the RNC crowd to its feet as he played to the day's law and order theme. And so began the political heat waves that have surrounded us until now. But the summer is not yet over.

Matt Malina and Michelle Wolinsky: Village View resident (lives across the street from the synagogue at issue) Speaking opposing a Certificate of Appropriateness for alterations to Meseritz Synagogue (which was landmarked in October). The synagogue board made a deal to develop the building into residences. They constructed a mock-up of its upper floor development to assure that the upper-floor development would not be visible from the street. The mock-up has fallen down so it's not clear whether it would be visible. Chad Marlow: Concerned that this is an internal synagogue issue, not a community board issue. Monica Rittersporn: Questioning whether safeguards were taken to preserve St. Marks church when building handicap ramp. As a nonpartisan government watchdog organization dedicated to making democracy work for all New Yorkers, Citizens Union evaluates candidates based on their commitment to our reform agenda and their effectiveness in advancing these issues, as well as other issues affecting their communities and in their ability to represent their entire district. In alignment with Citizens Union’s top priorities, candidates were asked about their commitment to a state Constitutional Convention referendum, ethics reform, campaign finance reform, and how they propose to stem and prevent corruption in Albany. "When New Yorkers who are members of a political party turn out to vote on Primary Day, they will find either no contest for state legislature and if there is one, it is often not very competitive. The incumbent re-election rate will remain high again this season as there are even fewer contests for open and vacant seats in New York City, of which there are only seven. But we are pleased to provide some guidance to those New Yorkers who live in districts where there are real contests.
