Pieces requiring improvisation should consist of the ‘Head’ and approximately two improvised choruses. CD backing tracks are optional. Bars 1 and 2 will be written out. The candidate is required to play the opening phrase and a response phrase. Examples are provided in Jazz Wind Handbook 1. Bars 1, 2, 5 and 6 will be given. Development will be required in bars 3, 4, 7 and 8.
