Contact: Mike Levine Pete Albietz FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MONDAY, APRIL 27, 2015 MARCEL PRONOVOST, 1930-2015 Newark, NJ – Marcel Pronovost, a Hall-of-Fame defenseman, five-time Stanley Cup Champion, and 11-time All-Star who served the New Jersey Devils as an Ontario-based scout since 1990, passed away Sunday afternoon at the age of 84 in his hometown of Windsor, Ontario. “The entire hockey world is saddened by the loss of Marcel Pronovost,” said Devils’ President/General Manager Lou Lamoriello. “Marcel was a caring individual who dedicated his life to his family and to the game of hockey. He was a long-time member of our Devils’ family, a lifetime friend to the hockey community, and will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Pronovost family.” Marcel is survived by his second wife, Eva; son Leo and his wife Tina; son Michel and his wife Marie; daughter, Brigitte Stickley and her husband Wayne; along with his three grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by his first wife, Cindy, in 1993. Funeral arrangements are pending. Pronovost joined the Devils in 1990, and was a member of the scouting staff during each of the organization’s three Stanley Cup Championships. He joined the club after five years with the NHL’s Central Scouting Bureau. Pronovost finished his 20-year career in 1969-70, including 15 seasons with Detroit and five with Toronto, appearing in 1,206 NHL regular-season games and 134 playoff games. He began his post-playing career as a player/coach with Tulsa in 1969-70, and was named CHL Coach of the Year in 1971- 72. Pronovost also served as head coach with Chicago (WHA) in 1972-73, while serving two stints as head coach of Hull (QMJHL) between 1975-76 and 1979-80. He led the Buffalo Sabres to a 52-29-23 mark (.611) between October 1977-December 1978. Pronovost also served as a Red Wings’ assistant coach for a part of 1979-80 through 1980-81. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1978. Marcel was born on June 15, 1930 in Lac-a-la-Tortue, Quebec. -devils- .

1960-61 Pro Season for HOCKEY BLAST Pro Hockey Game Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! As part of our holiday celebration, we’re pleased to offer you the 1960-61 Pro Season for HOCKEY BLAST. We hope it brings you many hours of good cheer as you travel back in time nearly 60 years to re-live one of hockey’s memorable vintage seasons. The ‘60-61 season began with the Habs as champs, having won the last five championship cups. However their fellow Canadian rival appeared to be poised to dethrone Mon- treal, getting significantly stronger for the new season. Toronto had recently added Red Kelly to their lineup, and moved him to center from his usual defenseman role. They also had a nucleus of up-and-coming players including rookies Dave Keon and Bob Nevin, and a promising defenseman in Carl Brewer to go along with veterans Tim Horton and Alan Stanley. This group, combined with players like Armstrong, Pulford, Duff and the Big M, Frank Mahovlich, made the Leafs a formidable opponent. Still, Montreal had a very strong lineup, too, even with the Rocket retiring. The Habs roster included the likes of Boom-Boom Geoffrion, Jean Beliveau, Dickie Moore, Henri Richard, Tom Johnson and Doug Harvey with the always reliable Plante in goal. Both the Hawks and Wings were quality opponents as well, the Hawks using speed and intimidation, while Detroit had the big fella, Gordie Howe, still in his prime along with a cast of veterans. At the bottom were the Blueshirts from New York and Bostonians.
