She was discovered by none other than Shyam Benegal, a pioneering film-maker himself. She started with a supporting role in Nishant, and never looked back, growing into her own from one remarkable performance to the next.

Smita Patil is one of the most fascinating and tragic figure of the Indian cinema. She died in 1986, when giving birth to a child. She was only 31. It was a true mockery of fate. For Smita Patil spent her entire life fighting actively for equal rights of Indian men and women and her film characters reflected the struggle to bring down the existing stereotypes. The retrospective of her films prepared in cooperation with the Embassy of India becomes an inherent part of the “rebellious” vein of the programme of the IFF Tofifest – this is festival is created and managed by a woman, which has its significance. Patil was an icon of the ambitious Indian cinema and a true star of the Indian New Wave. She never played in any lachrymatory “Bollywood” films. The films she starred in were all focused on problems of women. She was a feminist, who was deeply involved in the issue of women's rights in the traditional Indian society. Her unique talent was honoured with the Indian equivalent of the Oscar – Filmfare Award and two times with the Indian Film Award. She was also awarded the Padma Shri award by the federal government of India.

[1] [2] He is widely acclaimed as an actor and is well known for his versatility in acting. [3] [4] [5] Kamal Haasan has won several Indian film awards, including four National Film Awards and numerous Southern Filmfare Awards, and he is known for having starred in the largest number of films submitted by India in contest for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.[6] In addition to acting and directing, he has also featured in films as ascreenwriter, songwriter, playback singer, choreographer and lyricist.[7] His film production company, Rajkamal International, has produced several of his films. In 2009, he became one of very few actors to have completed 50 years in Indian cinema.[8] After several projects as a child artist, Kamal Haasan's breakthrough into lead acting came with his role in the 1975 drama Apoorva Raagangal, in which he played a rebellious youth in love with an older woman.
