A Tribute to George Brent – Screening of the Movie “Jezebel” Ballinasloe Library 6:30pm – 9:00pm The evening will be a tribute to Ballinasloe-born, movie and theatre actor, George Brent. He was a Hollywood leading man in the 1930s/1940s and worked until his death in 1978. There will be a screening of his most famous movie “Jezebel” as well as a welcome reception before the event. Flowers are red, green leaves are green – or so it may seem Ballinasloe 6:00pm – 7:00pm This is an outdoor exhibition on the windows of an old disused terrace of houses in the town. It will be an interactive experience challenging preconceptions around the notion of embracing difference. A collaborative project involving 28 artists from the town. Address: Ballinasloe, Co. House Party Fibín Teo 5:00pm – 9:00pm “House Party” is an outdoor spectacle, a dance opera, where all the wild and raucous activities of a party is performed with movement and gesture to a live classical score. Set in a three storey house, boy rushed home to clean the house for girl, she arrives, and there is an adorable soft moment of blossoming love between them, before the door bursts open and a rag-tag ensemble of party animals enter and the night swings gloriously into action. Galway, F42 XC60 7:00pm and 10:00pm Ballygar Tidy Towns will host this years Culture Night. The event will begin in the Courthouse, the Ballygar Tidy Towns centre for Community endeavours. It will include a lecture from ecologist Gordan Darcy on the ecological heritage of Aughrane Forest. This will be followed by a musical recital by a local traditional irish music group. Afterwards there will be a musical performance by the Ballinasloe Town Band. This recital will take place in Ballygar’s new band stand on the market square. Address: Ballygar, Co. Clarinbridge Art Walk Clarinbridge Village 5:00pm – 9:00 pm This year Clarinbridge businesses’ will open up their window spaces to the Kilcornan Art Group to showcase the ongoing art, craft and design work happening in the centres and houses around Clarinbridge created by people with disabilities from the Brothers of Charity services. Kilcornan has a long-established connection with the village of Clarinbridge and its various business vendors and creating a village wide exhibition is a great opportunity to engage with the community on a wider level.     NEWSLETTER HEADFORD GALWAY EAST AUTUMN 2019 Welcome to my Headford Newsletter. This is a good opportunity to update you on all the recent initiatives for Headford and its surroundings. The town is going from strength to strength. Through the summer it has been a hive of activity with Headfest, which is now firmly established as a major event in County Galway, the County Fleadh Cheoil and the Gymkhana and Dog Show among the highlights. Tourism continues to be hugely important for the local economy with angling on the Corrib and Black Water, Ross Errilly Friary and new heritage initiatives like the Headford Lace Project attracting increasing numbers of visitors. They are complemented by so many great businesses and enterprises in the town and by community initiatives like the Community Garden and the Men's Shed. Headford stands at the crossroads of Connemara, Mayo, Galway and Tuam but it continues to go in only one direction - upwards! However, there is always more to do so if you need assistance INDEPENDENT or if there are any issues you wish to raise, please do not hesitate to contact me. Best Wishes.
