*Final totals shown are subject to change following annual audit. Awards net to recipients after MHBA service charges were deducted. Not listed in chart is the allocation to the MHBA’s yearling show—$20,000 through 1990; $25,000 from 1991 through 1999; $40,000 from 2000 through 2013. The owner award program was created in 1982 and began with the Pimlico program of March 13. It replaced a program of restricted Maryland-bred races which was begun in 1962. Commencing with Pimlico’s 1986 summer meet, a percentage of Fund monies have been allocated to purses for Maryland Million Day. Beginning in August 2005, breeder, owner and stallion bonuses are paid every two weeks, with the exact percentages for bonus calculations being determined bi-annually by the Maryland Racing Commission (Maryland Million Day is calculated separately).
