A Different Side

July 20 – Aug 1 2015

A Unique Exhibition showing Ali through the lenses of some of the world’s top photographers and the brushes of a few top artists

“He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life” Muhammad Ali Gallery Different with a reputation for putting on innovative and exciting exhibitions is delighted to host this exhibition which shows a ‘different’ side to Ali. Situated in the vibrant gallery district of Fitzrovia in the heart of London’s west end, the gallery has 2,000 square feet over two floors of a grade II listed building allowing space to show the photographs in the light an spacious ground floor, and to screen films in the more intimate lower ground floor space.

Curator and Photographer Christina Jansen spent two weeks with Ali in 1986 and has been working for the past four years on this exhibition which brings together leading world artists and photographers.

After first presenting the project at 2012 Olympics, the exhibition has grown and is now ready to be brought into central London

Participating Photographers and Artists - The list of participants boasts some of the world’s best known photographers: Carl Fischer, Terry O'Neil, Sonia Katchian, Chris Smith, Neil Leiffer, Michael Gaffney, Neil Kenlock, Christina Jansen, Graham Wood, Chris Gollon, Roberto Robanne, and Ron Chadwick. We are also in negotiation with a number of other world renowned photographers . The ‘public’ Ali is the three- times world heavyweight champion, self-proclaimed "The Greatest". He was never less than entertaining as a fighter. There were his pre-fight insults to opponents delivered in rhyming couplets, his unorthodox fighting style - which he described as "float like a butterfly, sting like a bee" - and his homespun, inspirational views on life. What is less known is that for the last 25 years, despite suffering increasing physical disability associated with Parkinson's Syndrome, Ali has worked tirelessly for the humanitarian causes he believes in, including relief of poverty, education, adoption, race relations, and encouraging people of all races to understand and respect each other. He has helped to provide 232 million meals to those suffering food poverty, and has hand- delivered food and medical supplies to needy communities in Asia, Africa and North and South America. He is the international ambassador of Jubilee 2000, a global organization dedicated to relieving debt in developing nations. Exhibition Profile

I would like to be remembered as a man who won the heavyweight title three times, who was humorous, and who treated everyone right.

As a man who never looked down on those who looked up at him, and who helped as many people he could.

As a man who stood up for his beliefs no matter what.

As a man who tried to unite all mankind through his faith and love.

And if all that's too much, then I guess I'd settle for being remembered only as a great boxer who became a leader and a champion of his People

And I wouldn't even mind if folks forgot how pretty I was
