Box 653, 6701 Szeged, Hungary E-mail: [email protected] Összefoglalás – A Maroszög részletes élőhely térképezése 2002-ben kezdődött. A munka első lépéseként 2002- ben elkészítettem a vizsgált terület első 1:50.000-es aktuális élőhelytérképét a CORINE-CÉT (CLC-CÉT) élőhelyosztályzó rendszer szerint. A 2004-től induló MÉTA program (Magyarországi Élőhelytérkép Adatbázis) során az élőhelyek természetességét, regenerációs potenciálját, veszélyeztető tényezőit is térképeztük. Emellett a talaj és növényzet kapcsolatának vizsgálata is hangsúlyos szerepet kapott a vizsgálatban. A vizsgálati terület 4 részre különül el élőhely-kompozíció alapján. Ezek a Tisza-Maros-szöge, a Torontál, a Maros és a Tisza Maros- torok körüli szakasza, valamint a Maros felsőbb (magyarországi) szakasza (Landori-erdő Nagylak közöt). A felszíni üledékek, a talajok, a másodlagos szikesedés hatása, a folyók dinamikája és a tájhasználat hatása az élőhelyekben visszatükröződik. Az élőhely-kompozíciók természetessége és az ökorégiók kvantitatív növényföldrajzi analízise alapján a táj agrár-urbánus táj, sok természet közeli, értékes élőhellyel, amelyek regenerációs potenciálja jónak mondható. Summary - The detailed landscape biotope-mapping of Marosszög (Marosangle) has begun in 2002. As the first step of this work I made the first 1:50,000 actual vegetation map of the study area in 2002 on the basis of the CORINE-CÉT (CLC-CÉT) habitat classifying system. The naturalness, the regeneration potential, the risk factors were also mapped during the Hungarian Biotope-Map Database (MÉTA) programme started in 2004.

The Hungarians conquered the Carpathian Basin 895–907 AD, and admixed with the indigenous communities. Here we present mitochondrial DNA results from three datasets: one from the Avar period (7th–9th centuries) of the Carpathian Basin (n = 31); one from the Hungarian conquest-period (n = 76); and a completion of the published 10th–12th century Hungarian-Slavic contact zone dataset by four samples. We compare these mitochondrial DNA hypervariable segment sequences and haplogroup results with published ancient and modern Eurasian data. Whereas the analyzed Avars represents a certain group of the Avar society that shows East and South European genetic characteristics, the Hungarian conquerors’ maternal gene pool is a mixture of West Eurasian and Central and North Eurasian elements. Comprehensively analyzing the results, both the linguistically recorded Finno-Ugric roots and historically documented Turkic and Central Asian influxes had possible genetic imprints in the conquerors’ genetic composition. Our data allows a complex series of historic and population genetic events before the formation of the medieval population of the Carpathian Basin, and the maternal genetic continuity between 10th–12th century and modern Hungarians. According to historical sources, the Hungarian tribal alliance conquered the eastern parts of the Carpathian Basin in 895 AD, and in successive campaigns occupied its central territories until 907 AD1.

The aesthetics of pagan religions is still present, but they adapted to Christian functions. Thus, on the border of Eastern and Western Christianity, a new design was created. This study introduces the features of round churches in the former Kingdom of Hungary from the 10th to 14th century and places them in the context of the Central European rotundas. To examine the buildings, we considered aspects such as location, periods of construction, possible layout variations, functions and patron saints. The database we created regarding the rotundas in Central Europe was the foundation for the investigations. Using this analysis, the goal is to find underlying patterns, identify different groups of rotundas and provide an overview of the monuments, which could be used for further investigations in the topic.     CADASTRAL FIELD WORKS ON PREHISTORIC MOUNDS IN THE CENTRAL PART OF THE TISZÁNTÚL REGION ÁDÁM BEDE University of Szeged, Department of Geology and Palaeontology 2–6., Egyetem Street H-6722 Szeged, Hungary [email protected] Abstract: The aim of the present paper is to provide a comprehensive report on the cadastral works of mounds in the central part of Tiszántúl (the region east of the Tisza River), taking the burial mounds of the Late Copper Age Yamnaya entity as a starting point. Theoretical and field research began around the beginning of the 19th century, and in the second half of the 20th century systematic site registration took place, mainly due to the so-called ‘Archaeological Sites of Hungary’ project. Later on national sur- veys and local initiatives were carried out, but they are of very different quality. In addition to the main characteristics and results of the creation of these cadastres, we also outline further scientific studies on mounds. Keywords: burial mounds (kurgans), Late Copper Age, Yamnaya entity, cadastral field works, Tiszántúl region INTRODUCTION Mounds are not only salient, determining cultural elements of the landscape of the Great Hungarian Plain, but are also of outstanding geological and conservational significance. Through their detailed, multifaceted exami- nation we can study not only the history of millennia, the everyday lives of the people and communities, their ar- chaeological heritage and customs buried in them, but also the inhabited environment, the flora and fauna that once lived there, and the geological formations on the surface and underneath.1 Their names and the stories associated with them reveal a hundreds of years’ long history.2 In the Carpathian Basin, primarily in the Great Hungarian Plain, and especially in the region east of the Tisza River, from the Late Copper Age to the Early Bronze Age, the Yamnaya entity of Eastern European origin – also called the People of the Pit Grave Kurgans – played a decisive role.3 Their heritage are the thousands of mounds that still exist today.
