Descendants of William Johnson Descendants of William Johnson Generation 1 1. WILLIAM1 JOHNSON was born on 20 Oct 1807 in Weaverthorpe, East Yorkshire, England1, 2, 3, 4. He died about 18955. He married (1) ELIZABETH ROADHOUSE on 02 Apr 1832 in St James Anglican, Toronto, ON, CA6, 7. She was born on 19 Jul 1813 in Monk Fryston, Yorkshire, England8, 9, 10. She died on 28 Apr 1889 in At home in Dixie, Toronto Twp., Peel Co., ON, CA11. He met (2) MARY BELL. She was born about 1817 in England12, 13. She died before 1900. Notes for William Johnson: In an e-mail, dated Oct 20, 2001, 7:20 PM (EMAI0034) (with some editting for clarity, Bill Cosway makes the following points): In the 1861 census William (b. 1807) was living with his wife and three children, namely Elizabeth, John & William. In the 1871 Census William (b. 1807) was NOT included in the household with his wife Elizabeth, two of their children, namely John and William. Their daughter Elizabeth married Neriah Roadhouse just after the 1861 census was taken. In the 1881 census none of the people with the surname of Johnson was living in the Dixie home built by William (b. 1807). The home was occupied by the daughter Elizabeth, her husband Neriah Roadhouse and their children. William (b. 1846) was now married and living in Sandwich Twp., Essex County with his wife, two children & his mother (Elizabeth Roadhouse). William (b. 1807) is NOT listed with either of the families in Dixie or Essex. In Bill Cosway's paper files, there are three items that support that William (b. 1807) had left his family: 1. One states that William Sr. left his wife as a "grass widow" and took off with a Mrs. Giles ? 2. In a 1894 local paper it states for the Dixie community that William Johnson has returned home AGAIN. From this, BillI concludes that he came & went as he pleased, which may have been often. 3. There are also copies of documents regarding the purchase of additional lands to the original land in Dixie, one in 1889 is a law suit between William (b. 1807) & his wife Elizabeth Roadhouse & it states that William Johnson's (b. 1807) residence was Detroit Mich. and his occupation was a food vendor. Family stories have NEVER mentioned any of this taking place, instead, they all told that the Johnson family ALWAYS lived in Dixie. So Bill's conclusion is that family lore is sometimes what family wants to PASS DOWN which is the NICE THINGS IN LIFE. Things that SHOULD be and NOT what necessarily is true. These pages are generated from the family tree of Glen Johnson ([email protected]). Notes for Elizabeth Roadhouse: In the 1871 census, she is living with her son, William (film #C9957), next to her son-in-law, Neriah Roadhouse. From schedule 4, she is living on lot 9 of Dundas Street. William Johnson and Elizabeth Roadhouse had the following children: 2. i. • A History of Windsor's Parks
Aboriginal Park Commonly known as: Aboriginal Park Former/other names: Indian Memorial Park Location: Northwood near E.C. Row Expressway Property Acquired: 1972 Acreage: 2.9 Official designation: Community park During the construction of the E.C. Row Expressway, Indian artefacts were discovered and moved to this site. A portion of the park is a memorial for indigenous peoples and is left in a natural state. The other portion of the park has been developed with a basketball key and playground equipment in co-operation with the developer for the surrounding residences. Adstoll Park and Arena Commonly known as: Adstoll Park, Adstoll Arena Former/other names: none Location: at Grand Marais and Pillette Roads Property acquired: 1965 Acreage: 4.35 Official designation: Community park Although Adstoll Park was officially established in 1965, it was not until 1967, when Mayor John Wheelton performed the ground-breaking ceremonies for a new outdoor arena, that the park site began physically demonstrating its vast recreational potential. The outdoor arena, built at a cost of nearly $90,000, was specially designed to allow for the installation of a roof at some point in the future. That future arrived sooner than many area residents expected; in 1973, the City financed the complete enclosure of the rink, spending $435,000 on the project. Just three years later, two tennis courts were installed at the park. Today, tennis courts and an assortment of playground equipment, including a creative play unit are located at the park, but it is during the winter when children and adults of all ages hit the ice surface, that Adstoll Arena really comes alive.
