TERM 3 Week 4 12th August 2020 IMPORTANT DATES MINI VINNIE’S SLEEPOUT AUGUST Last Friday, the cold, wet weather did not dampen the spirits of the 42 students and 5 adults who took part in our Minni Vinnies Sleepout, in fact it only added to the Friday 14th experience. We had a wonderful night playing, praying, eating and reflecting on how it Prayer Service for the Feast of must be so hard for those who do not have a warm, comfortable bed to sleep in the Assumption of Mary each night. Monday 17th One of the most powerful experiences was when the students were asked to take a Dance Week piece of cardboard and to find a spot outside in the cold to lay down on their little bit of cardboard for comfort. Many thanks to Miss Hughes, Max Bain (Youth Ministry Officer), Miss Griffiths and Mr Barsby for taking the time out of their weekend to spend with the students of our school. The whole evening was not about raising funds but more so about raising awareness and I am very confident that this was achieved. I am sure that there were September many people who had a bit of a “nanna nap” on Saturday afternoon. We look forward to another Sleepout in 2021. We pay our respect to them and their cultures, and to the elders both past and present. We commit to actively work for justice and peace. Dear Families of St Brigid’s, This Saturday the 15th of August will see the celebration of the Feast of The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This is celebrated every year on the 15th and commemorates the death of Mary and her bodily assumption into Heaven. It signifies the Blessed Virgin’s passing into eternal life; it is an important feast and a Holy Day of Obligation. It is a special day in the Catholic Church as we celebrate the goodness and devotion of Mary, the Mother of Jesus. Prayer to Our Lady Assumed into Heaven Immaculate Virgin, Mother of Jesus and our Mother, we believe in your triumphant assumption into heaven where the angels and saints acclaim you as Queen. We join them in praising you and bless the Lord who raised you above all creatures. With them we offer you our devotion and love. We are confident that you watch over our daily efforts and needs, and we take comfort from the faith in the coming resurrection. We look to you, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. After this earthly life, show us Jesus, the blest fruit of your womb, O kind, O loving, O sweet virgin Mary. Amen The Year 3 students will be leading our school in our Assumption Prayer Service this Friday at 12:20pm in the Parish Hall. DANCE WEEK: Next week we welcome Aleeta Northey to our school for the first time to conduct an Intensive Week of Dance for all students at St Brigid’s. Aleeta’s choreography experience is just as extensive with some of her works including: So You Think You Can Dance, Episodes 1, 2 and 3, Human Nature the Motown Tour, Paulini and the Naturelles, The Young Divas, Turn Me Loose video, Carols by Candlelight, TV Week Logie Awards, The ARIAS, Rugby League Grand Finals, NCR International Conventions, Buddy Holly - the Musical, Todd McKenney at Star City Casino, Jessica Mauboy and the Dolly Awards. FUN FESTIVAL POSTPONED: The scheduled Fun Festival that was set to be held in Term 1 of this year has been postponed until next year. INTERVIEWS FOR 2021 KINDERGARTEN: Enrolment interviews are now taking place for the intake of next year’s Kindergarten class. If you have not lodged your enrolment application as yet, please do so as soon as possible. Please pass this information onto any one whom you know that is thinking of St Brigid’s as their choice of school for next year. SCHOOL UNIFORM: Thank you parents for ensuring your children are dressed in accordance with our school uniform. Where possible we encourage students to take responsibility for their uniform, however we are noticing trends that we request your help in addressing. At St Brigid’s our school uniforms nourish a sense of pride in being part of the school community, but also a sense of equality. When students have the same/similar school attire, unhealthy competitive feelings about looks, fashion brands and unaffordable clothing items are reduced. We have observed students not wearing correct school uniform, including shoes and ask parents to please ensure your children are wearing the correct uniform; including jumpers, hats, socks and shoes. It is unfair to expect the teaching staff to be constantly addressing this issue, if and when parents are choosing to let their children do the wrong thing. If your child is out of school uniform, they should have a note from home stating why they are not correctly attired. Emma Rixon has our School Uniform Shop open each Monday from 2pm. Alternatively please call Mrs Welsh at the Office and she can arrange to have uniforms sent home. SCHOOL CANTEEN: Following a trial run with canteen on Fridays, it has been decided not to continue.
