I don't have any words to describe the beauty of Spiti Valley, It is such a stunning place . Every mountain lover should visit Spiti valley once to rediscover himself . Incredible Spiti was our tour planner for this trip and they have done their best to make this trip a memory of a life time . They have guided us on a right track from the beginning so that we can feel eternal bliss through the nature of Spiti Valley . Their arrangements such as accommodation, food , sight seeing was above our expectation level . Chering Ji, Dinesh Ji, Poonam Ji, Mingamar Ji , Vishesh Ji & all of their team members are so enthusiastic that you don't need to worry about any thing. I would like to Thank Team Incredible Spiti & specially Visheshji for being so supportive Ms. Rajee Nair (Travelled with us in 2016) It is almost a year since I visited Spiti and I can still not get over it ... I remember Vishesh Shourie telling me before I went there that it would change my life ... little did I know that it really would and how ! There is no way to describe the place and what it does to you .. words fall short because nothing can describe the beauty of vast emptiness stretching beyond the horizon ...and the skies so blue ... it makes you want to cry .... Spiti ... calls out to me everyday ... I go through the motions of my "normal life" thinking that one day I will go back ....again ... no better team than Incredible Spiti to contact when visiting Spiti ... for me Vishesh Shourie has become synonymous with Spiti ... his knowledge ... his passion for what he does is beyond comparison ... when I think back to the questions I have hounded him with ... ranging from valid to the most inane ... he answered them all with equanimity ... Thank you Incredible Spiti for making my dream com true and yes ... hasta la vista ! Ms. Kajal Arora (Travelled with us in 2016) Incredible Spiti follows what the name says. The company provides incredible experience to Spiti. Groups are well organised, guide is knowledgeable. They have experienced drivers who know how to keep a car in control in rough terrains.

The Spiti Valley Recovering the Past & Exploring the Present Wolfson College 6 t h -7 t h May, 2016 OXFORD Welcome I am pleased to welcome you to the first International Conference on Spiti, which is being held at the Leonard Wolfson Auditorium on May 6 th and 7 th , 2016. The Spiti Valley is a remote Buddhist enclave in the Indian Himalayas. It is situated on the borders of the Tibetan world with which it shares strong cultural and historical ties. Often under-represented on both domestic and international levels, scholarly research on this subject – all disciplines taken together – has significantly increased over the past decade. The conference aims at bringing together researchers currently engaged in a dialogue with past and present issues pertaining to Spitian culture and society in all its aspects. It is designed to encourage interdisciplinary exchanges in order to explore new avenues and pave the way for future research. There are seven different panels that address the theme of this year’s conference, The Spiti Valley : Recovering the Past and Exploring the Present , from a variety of different disciplinary perspectives including, archaeology, history, linguistics, anthropology, architecture, and art conservation. I look forward to the exchange of ideas and intellectual debates that will develop over these two days. On this year’s edition, we are very pleased to have Professor Deborah Klimburg-Salter from the universities of Vienna and Harvard as our keynote speaker. Professor Klimburg-Salter will give us a keynote lecture entitled Through the black light - new technology opens a window on the 10th century .

The word "Spiti" depicts "The Middle Land", which was a bridge where the two great traditions of India and Tibet diffused in the trans-Himalayan region. There are two routes by which one can reach Spiti, which are from Manali via Rohtang and Kunzum Pass and from Shimla via Hindustan Tibet highway, which is often considered one of the most treacherous road. Spiti Valley is fed by several fast-flowing streams that drain into Spiti river. Being one of the remotest regions of India which remains blocked for most of the year is ideal for Wravelers looking to explore places. DigitalResources Electronic Survey Report 2019-006 A Sociolinguistic Survey of Lahul Valley, Himachal Pradesh Brad Chamberlain and Wendy Chamberlain A Sociolinguistic Survey of Lahul Valley, Himachal Pradesh Brad Chamberlain and Wendy Chamberlain SIL International® 2019 SIL Electronic Survey Report 2019-006, August 2019 © 2019 SIL International® All rights reserved Data and materials collected by researchers in an era before documentation of permission was standardized may be included in this publication. SIL makes diligent efforts to identify and acknowledge sources and to obtain appropriate permissions wherever possible, acting in good faith and on the best information available at the time of publication. Abstract The main purpose of this survey of the Lahul Valley of Himachal Pradesh was to determine the best language varieties for communicating with the Lahuli people. The survey was conducted in June, July, and August of 1996. The survey was divided into three studies: a language and dialect area study; a language use, attitudes, and vitality study; and a bilingualism study. Wordlists were collected for the Pattani language, which is the largest language group in Lahul. Recorded Text Testing was used. Oral questionnaires were the means to study language use, attitudes and vitality. Self-reported levels of bilingualism in Hindi were assessed through questionnaires, informal interviews, and observation. In addition, a test based on the Recorded Text Testing procedure was used to see if minority language groups of Lahul could understand the most widely spoken Lahuli language, Pattani. Although Lahul Valley is home to only 20,000 residents, there are seven mother tongue languages: Pattani, Gahri, Tinani, Bhoti, Lohari, Chinali and Pangi.
