Dear Parents / Guardians

Your child has been selected to participate in the ‘Discover Plus Transition Programme’. This programme will consist of varying activities that will encourage them to develop their confidence, organisation and life skills, that will help them make a smoother transition from Year 8 to 9 initially and then throughout Year 9.

The ‘Discover Plus Transition Programme’, aims to develop students’ confidence, emotional & social development at RSA Academy Arrow Vale, which will help motivate them towards future success. We believe that ensuring the students are not overwhelmed by entering Year 9, will enable them to cope with the demands of the year.

The ‘Discover Plus Transition Programme’, will take place every Wednesday for 6 weeks. Each week your child will undertake different activities, either inside or outside school. There is no cost to these activities. The students will be transported to venues by school mini bus where necessary, arriving back at school before the end of Period 5, so that they are able to have their lunch. Period 6 will be a session evaluating their thoughts and feelings, about the skills used. It will also be a chance for the students to create personal targets that they will try to achieve in school. Students are expected to arrive in their full school uniform. Students register and then meet in the Sports Block. They will have the opportunity to change. Students will change into their school uniform for the afternoon session. Could you please help to organise your young person, to help to ensure that they arrive suitably equipped. The students will be accompanied by Mr. Thomas who is a qualified teacher and also has training in courses of this nature. The activities that the students will undertake are as follows:-
