KINDNESS… a little goes a LONG WAY!

 Is the most important human characteristic  Is a universal language  Instills a positive feeling and makes the world a better place to live in  Is the single most important factor for success in life  Is a vital way of making our own lives and the lives of others meaningful Kindness has a powerful impact on one’s life. Have you ever noticed how uplifted YOU ARE when you show kindness to others? The giver and the receiver both are happy. A win win as they say! Then why don’t we practice kindness every minute of every day? I personally think it is because we are so busy going about our day, focusing on what we think we need to accomplish, that we lose sight of the little things that make others happy, not to mention ourselves. Does it really take any extra time to be kind to someone? One little act could make someone’s day. A smile, a hug, a compliment, a word of encouragement, the list is endless. Think about all the times someone has gone out of their way to do something nice for you. You know, those Random Acts of Kindness! How did it make you feel? Imagine what it would be like if everyone was kind to everyone and everything? I read that “kindness is a true source deep within us, and while some people are innately kind, it’s something that everyone can cultivate by choice.” So, this year I am joining The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation and becoming a RAKtivist. “They truly believe that kindness can change the world and exemplify that in their day-to-day lives. They reach out to others and not just talk the talk, but use their limbs to walk the walk.” My goal this year is to create a community for kindness to flourish. Anybody want to join me? Wherever you are and whatever you are doing INSPIRE KINDNESS. Make someone’s day and remember…. “Kindness as an attitude is infectious. When you’re willing to share your kindness, others will be inspired by your example and think about something as kind themselves. So let’s fan the flame by being kind to everyone!”

PGA Free Fitting & Trade-Up Program - April 2014

For the past five years, PGA Professionals have been providing free 15-minute club fitting sessions at golf facilities nationwide during the month of April. Players who are fit by a PGA Professional are able to the ball straighter and longer; hit all shots more accurately; have noticeably better distance control; and shave strokes with better short game execution.

Bring in your used equipment and based on fair market values from the PGA.com Value Guide, the National Standard for Value, you will be issued a credit towards the purchase of new clubs for the 2013 season.

10 General Information

This handbook is intended to be a complete chronological listing of Rochester Country Club tournament events and a description of league activity for the 2014 golf season. We hope that you will find this book informative and helpful in planning your golf activities for the season. If you have any questions or suggestions regarding any of the events, please feel free to contact Management or Pro Shop personnel.

All players and their guests are required to register in the Pro Shop prior to the start of their round. PLEASE DO NOT START OFF THE BACK NINE WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF THE PRO SHOP.

Your GHIN is included in your 2014 membership. Please see the Pro Shop to activate your GHIN handicap. An active GHIN is necessary to play in certain RCC tournaments. See pages 18 & 19 for Tournament Policies and Procedures.

It is the responsibility of each member to post all scores into the computer system. Please post your scores ONLY when playing by USGA rules. It is important to keep handicap information up to date. It is possible to post single 9-hole rounds, which will help to keep everyone’s handicap current. (WHEN POSTING A NINE HOLE SCORE, please make sure to follow the directions on the computer screen and click the appropriate box – NINE HOLES - and then whether you played the front or back, otherwise your score will be posted as an 18 hole score which will distort your handicap.) The use of handicaps during tournament competition is a vital part of fairness to your fellow golfers. If you are unsure of how to post your score, please ask the Pro Shop for their assistance. Please do your part to maintain an accurate handicap.

The NHGA and NHWGA provide a free service to active golfers called eREVISION. GHIN will now automatically send golfers their updated handicap indexes via email. To learn more about this service log on to www.nhgolf.com or www.ghin.com

The tee boxes and rating for men, women and juniors are as follows:

Forward : (GREEN) men = 65.1/108 women = 69.9/121 Middle Tees: (WHITE) men = 67.5/116 women = 72.6/127 Back Tees: (BLUE) men = 70.2/128 Pro Tees: (BLACK) men = 72.0 / 131

All New Hampshire Golf Association related tournament applications are available ONLY on-line. Applications can be downloaded at www.nhgolf.com

11 General Information (continued)

You may play from any tee box that you are comfortable playing from. Please make sure that when you post your score, it reflects the tee boxes from which you played. UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED, DURING ALL TOURNAMENTS, THE MEN WILL PLAY FROM THE BLUE TEES AND THE WOMEN FROM THE GREEN TEES.

The definition of an active current GHIN handicap for the 2014 golf season is considered to be ten (10) 18-hole SCORES POSTED DURING THE 2013 and/or 2014 SEASON. Scores prior to 2013 will not be considered when determining an active current GHIN handicap.

State law prohibits any member, guest or non-member from bringing alcoholic beverages to the restaurant or onto the course. There will be no coolers allowed on the course. A beverage cart is available and will provide alcohol, beer, soda, sandwiches and snacks. NO ALCOHOL is allowed in the parking lot. Please drink responsibly and obey the law. Thank you for your cooperation.

Tee times are strongly recommended. To keep our green fees and membership rates affordable, we need everyone to be more responsible and considerate when making their tee times. Members may make starting times up to seven (7) days in advance. When making starting times either on the phone or at the Pro Shop, the Pro Shop staff will ask the names of the persons you will be playing with. Tee times are at a premium. If you make a tee time for four (4) people, please bring 4 people. If you are unable to provide 4 players or unable to make your scheduled tee time, please give the Pro Shop at least 24-hour notice so they can make adjustments.

Proper golf club attire is required and will be strictly enforced. NO short-shorts, cut offs, muscle shirts, halter-tops or bathing suits.

**Jeans can be worn but must not have stains or holes.

RCC is a public golf club. We ask that our members demonstrate exemplary behavior when on the premises and we expect them to be an outstanding example for the general public. Please refrain from foul language, throwing clubs, excessive drinking and PLEASE adhere to the dress code.

METAL SPIKES ARE PROHIBITED. If you have not already made the change to spikeless shoes, please stop by the Pro Shop. For a minimal charge, they will be happy to change them for you.

12 General Information (continued)

Rochester Country Club WILL NOT be responsible for loss of personal property by members or their guests.

CARTS will be available as daylight permits, based on the time of sunset.

All members playing in non-sponsored Rochester Country Club tournaments (Rochester Chamber of Commerce, Eastern Propane, etc.) will be required to pay the total outside tournament entry fee and will not be able to deduct the cost of the green fees or cart fees.

All suggestions, other matters of concern and complaints should be addressed to Management or Director of Golf. Your suggestions & comments are GREATLY APPRECIATED!

There is a plethora of information available to all of us and unfortunately, not enough time to digest it all, so…ONCE AGAIN WE ARE ASKING, if you read or hear of a new idea, we would greatly appreciate you sharing it with us. Read it, CUT IT OUT… Hear it, WRITE IT DOWN… an original thought, SHARE IT… then drop it off in the Pro Shop. WANT THE KUDOS FOR YOUR IDEA? Don’t forget to include your name and phone number.

In an effort to “go green” the RCC updated monthly calendars can be found on our website. Please reference these calendars for any updates, sign-up dates and scheduled outside tournaments.

This membership book will be available online as a PDF file ONLY. We have printed a limited number of 2014 books for those of you who like the “hands on” approach or do not have computer access.

No more than four (4) players per group will be allowed on the course at any time, unless permitted by the Director of Golf and/or Pro Shop staff.

13 General Information (continued)

Any Proshop Credit won during tournaments cannot be applied to your membership fees. This credit can be used for Pro Shop merchandise only and MUST be used by the end of the current year.

If lightning is in the area, all play should cease. You should immediately head to the clubhouse. Golf carts are not lightning proof. The Pro Shop staff will make a reasonable effort to inform you (blowing air horn) of impending dangerous weather. We do not expect our employees to endanger themselves in attempting to notify you to seek shelter, so please use your own discretion.

Under no circumstances are the regular greens, tees or fairways to be used for practice.

The Golf Professional in conjunction with the Golf Course Superintendent shall determine times when course conditions prohibit play as well as restricting the use of carts.

All membership fees are non-refundable.

Please be patient with the maintenance crew. They take pride in their job and they work hard to keep the course in beautiful condition. They deserve the same courtesy that you would expect from them.

Information in this handbook is subject to change. For detailed information regarding each tournament, please consult the Pro Shop staff as the event approaches.

Please remember this PACE OF PLAY RULE:

Your position on the golf course is behind the group in front of you, NOT in front of the group behind you. Keep your pace of play according to the times on the scorecard.

Slower groups must follow the direction of the Pro Shop Staff or Course Ranger. This may include picking up golf balls and skipping play until your group is correctly spaced behind the preceding group.

25 TAKE YOUR DAUGHTER to the COURSE WEEK

Monday, July 7th through Sunday, July 13th, 2014

“Take Your Daughter to the Course Week” is a national player development program spearheaded by the National Golf Course Owners Association and promoted in coordination with The PGA of America. Use this opportunity to bring your daughter, niece, God-daughter or grand- daughter (who is 17 years or under) to Rochester Country Club and/or Nippo Lake Golf Club to introduce her to your favorite sport.

 All “young ladies’” green fees will be donated by Rochester Country Club when accompanied by a member or paying adult.

 A clinic will be held at Nippo Lake Golf Club by Rick Rogers, Teaching Professional on Thursday, July 10th from 12:30 – 1:00PM. He will be highlighting the aspects of golf that are needed for a knowledgeable start in this great game. MUST call the Nippo Lake Pro Shop to sign up in advance.

 Junior clubs will be available for the clinic at no charge. Please call in advance to make sure that the clubs are available.

 Please call ahead for available tee times.

Junior girls playing golf has increased about 20% since 1998. However, the percentage of junior golfers has decreased slightly. We at Rochester Country Club feel that it is important to encourage more juniors, especially girls to get involved in the game so that they can experience the fun of the game and benefit from the life skills that golf has to offer.

NLGC and RCC are an affiliate of The First Tee of NH. The First Tee of NH offers programs for all juniors. They positively impact the lives of young people by providing learning facilities and educational programs that promote character development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf.

The First Tee of New Hampshire promotes and reinforces the Core Values of The First Tee: Courtesy, Respect, Judgment, Responsibility, Sportsmanship, Confidence, Honesty, Integrity, and Perseverance.
