Painting in the Greek Islands with REGINA HONA Kalymnos (6 nights) - Patmos (2 nights) - Fourni (3 nights), Ikaria (4 nights) - Samos (4 nights) with Optional Day Trip to Ephesus, Turkey 13th September – 2nd October, 2018 Day 1 / KALYMNOS (Thu 13th) FREE DAY In Athens, connect with domestic flight to KALYMNOS where you will be met at the island airport. Our studios in the village of Myrties are backdropped by dramatic mountains facing the sea, its jetty lined with colourful fishing boats. Myrties boasts one of the most spectacular sunsets in the Aegean! Welcome sunset cocktails. Day 2 / KALYMNOS (Fri 14th) Myrties. Perched on a wide bay overlooking the isle of Telendos, the tiny jetty with its colourful boats is an idyllic spot to paint. Optional evening with live Greek Music and local dancing. Day 3 / KALYMNOS (Sat 15th) Telendos. The tiny isle of Telendos is completely steeped in time with its white-washed lanes draped with bougainvillea, bold tangled fishing nets, bright wooden boats & seaside tavernas. Day 4 / KALYMNOS (Sun 16th) Vathy. Crossing the island, descending into this fertile valley with its great groves of mandarins is an unforgettable sight as it also has one of the deepest and most beautiful natural harbours in the Aegean. The day will be spent under the grapevine painting this beautiful turquoise bay. Day 5 / KALYMNOS (Mon 17th) Emborios. A boat trip to a secluded cove to Harry’s Taverna set in the islands most beautiful garden with its splashes of vibrant bougainvillea and potted geraniums. Evening BBQ at Babis Bar. Day 6 / KALYMNOS (Tue 18th) Aghias Savas. The rich terra-cotta domes of this beautiful monastery contrasted with the blue of the sky and sea is a scene to capture! (Afternoon Review) Day 7 / PATMOS (Wed 19th) FREE DAY Depart Kalymnos 14:00 - Arrive Patmos 15:50. Transfer to our hotel by the harbour within walking distance of all the fabulous shops and little tavernas. Day 8 / PATMOS (Thu 20th) Chora, the Old Town with its labyrinth of narrow meandering laneways criss-crossed by stone arches opening onto little squares is captivating. We will also visit to the Cave of the Apocalypse including it’s superb vista of the main town and the Monastery of St. John. The world-wide fame of this beautiful monastery attracts pilgrims from all over the world. Day 9 / PATMOS / FOURNI (Fri 21st) Skala. The view of white-wash Chora cascading down the hillside, crowned by its medieval castle is simply superb. Depart Patmos 16:00. Arrive Fourni 17:20. Our studios overlooking the tiny harbour flanked by rolling hills is a peaceful haven - the perfect place to chill out unwind and paint! Day 10 / FOURNI (Sat 22nd) Fourni’s little beach is filled with brightly painted fishing boats dotting the shoreline. In the afternoon we will head to Thymena for an afternoon painting session and a swim. This tiny island, inhabited by a handful of fishermen, is a well-kept secret. The white-washed stairs leading down to the little jetty lines with its colourful wooden boats and bright tangled nets offers an iconic Greek island scene! Day 11 / FOURNI (Sun 23rd) The small promenade is lined with a handful of tavernas shaded by lovely tamarisk trees from where we can capture the laid-back pace of Fourni. (Afternoon Review) Optional dinner at the local taverna. Aegean lobster is the island’s speciality. Day 12 / IKARIA ( Mon. 24th) FREE DAY Depart Fourni 9:30. Arrive Ikaria 10:00. With its steep cliffs, deep ravines and forest-covered mountains, Ikaria is a magical island. Our hotel overlooking the windswept beach is a peaceful haven - the perfect place to chill out, unwind and paint for the next few days! Day 13 / IKARIA (Tue 25th) Armenitsa with its handful of tavernas by the beach, back-dropped by majestic mountains is an inspiring base for our morning painting session. Day 14 / IKARIA (Wed 26th) Kristos Rahes, a quaint mountain village surrounded by pines is also a great spot for painting as well as walks with its numerous trails leading to various other hamlets. Day 15 / IKARIA (Thu 27th) Evdhilos with its little harbour flanked by elegant neo-classical houses in pastel shades is lively and full of atmosphere. Day 16 / IKARIA / SAMOS (Fri 28th) FREE DAY Free day to further explore the island. Depart Ikaria 17:00. Arrive Samos 18:30. Transfer to our hotel with its panoramic vista of the picturesque seaside village of Kokkari from our stunning pool terrace. Day 17 / SAMOS (Sat 29th) Kokkari. This pretty village with its white-washed houses and pots of colourful geraniums is stunning! The waterfront is lined with tavernas right on the waters edge – a lovely location! DAY 18 / SAMOS (Sun 30th) Manolates. This peaceful mountain village overlooking vineyards and the sea is stunning with its beaked chimneys, ceramic-tiled roofs and brightly painted wooden shutters. (Afternoon Review & Farewell Cocktails.) Day 19 / SAMOS (Mon 1st) FREE DAY Optional excursion to Ephesus, Turkey. This day trip to Ephesus visits the best preserved classical city in the Mediterranean and one of the Seven Wonders of the World, dating back to 550 B.C. Just a short distance off the Samos coast, Ephesus is a gateway to the East. OR Spend the day in the south of Samos in the port of Pythagorio with its cobbled-stoned circular harbour lined with fishing boats and fabulous shops! Day 20 / DEPARTURE (Tue 2nd) Depart from Samos Airport for return flight to Athens. TRAVEL INSURANCE IS RECOMMENDED Bookings – To confirm your reservation, a deposit of $500 is required to ensure your place on the tour. Final payment is required 90 days prior tour commencement. (Please see attached booking form.) Cancellations – Should you wish to cancel, a cancellation fee will be incurred as follows: Within 15 days prior tour – total land cost Within 30-15 days prior tour – 75% total land cost Within 45 – 30 days prior tour – 50% total land cost Within 60 – 45 days prior tour – 25% total land cost Within 90 – 60 days prior tour – tour deposit 90 days or more prior tour – no cancellation fee. FURTHER INFORMATION Flights are not included in the tour cost. You are responsible for booking international return flights to Athens and domestic flights to and from the islands, as stated in the itinerary. Flights may be booked independently through any travel agency or through our own travel agent associated with the tour. Please check for tour confirmation prior to flight payment. Lunch and dinner are not included in the cost. Meals with wine, salad and bread are approx. $15 - $20. In Kalymnos and a few other islands we stay in furnished studio apartments with kitchenettes and balcony seaviews. The painting itinerary may be subject to change depending on weather conditions. If twin share is requested please note that you are responsible for sharing arrangements. In order for tours to operate a minimum number of bookings is required. (The majority of tours go ahead.) If the minimum number is not met, the tour may be cancelled with a full refund. Various artists run different tours. Due to unforeseen circumstances, an artist may need to be substituted in order for the trip to proceed to avoid cancellation and disappointment. In the unlikely event that this happens, you will be offered full refund if you decide to cancel. Materials – You are required to bring along your own painting materials, including easels and stools if required. Please refer to the material list and make sure you are well equipped for the art tour as it is extremely difficult to buy art materials on these islands. Once your booking is confirmed, the recommended list of materials put together by the tutor of your chosen tour will be sent to you . Luggage. – You are advised to pack lightly as we travel by ferry to the other islands, and you are responsible for managing your luggage. Only minimal clothing is required as Greece is extremely casual, and you can wash and dry overnight. Banks. A.T.M. outlets are situated on all these islands. Visa and Mastercard are accepted in some shops, but it is basically a cash economy. REMEMBER to pack sunblock, a hat, comfortable shoes with non-slip soles, a warm all-weather jacket, a small torch, and your cossi! (A suggested packing list will also be emailed to you after the tour is confirmed.) EXTRA NIGHTS ACCOMMODATION If you are extending your accommodation before or after the tour on the islands featured in the itinerary, the required payment for the extra nights can be paid directly to your host when you arrive in Greece.
