Nota Bene News from the Yale Library volume xxxiii, number 1, summer/fall 2018 Yale librarY Honored for internsHi s and outreacH Yale University Library received the frst annual Ivy Award from New Haven Promise, a program that provides scholarships and career development sup- port to graduates of New Haven schools. The award, presented on August 16, recognizes the library’s strong support of the group’s career launch and civic engagement initiatives. “In the last year, Yale University Library has strengthened its commitment by hiring eleven paid interns in 2018,” noted New Haven Promise President Patricia Melton. Melton also praised the library’s public outreach, with special mention of the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library. “Because of your involvement and dedication, our organization, our internship program, and the greater New Haven community have prospered and continued to fourish,” she concluded. Nota Bene News from the Yale Library annual report issue • volume xxx, number 3, fall 2015 1 Front cover: A terrestrial globe, housed in the Yale Library, created by Vincenzo Coronelli in 1699. One of a pair, it recently underwent conservation treatment, thanks to generous support from library donors. Coronelli was one of three great baroque period globe makers, dominating globe making in the second half of the 17th century, eventually earning the title “Cartographer of Venice.” According to at least one historian of globes, there are approximately 50 extant terrestrial globes by Coronelli and 42 extant celestials, the majority of them in Italy. The later editions of 1696 and 1699 are rarer still, with only 17 terrestrial globes of 1699 known to be in museums and private collections.
