Words of Enlightenment from Honourable Principal, Ananda Chandra College,

Dear All, It gives me immense pleasure to introduce to you all the College Brochure, ‘GYANODAY’ while celebrating seventy-ninth year of its glorious journey. Growth and dissemination of knowledge has been the most potent force in shaping the path of development of human race. In this journey, educational institutions have played an instrumental role as catalyst. As such, Ananda Chandra College, too, has been successfully endeavouring to contribute its share of vision, commitment and perseverance since its inception in 1942. However, one should never lose sight of the fact that acquisition of knowledge bears its sanctity only when it transcends into creating favourable conditions for the growth of a democratic space, opportunities and equity. So, the teachers and students alike must engage their knowledge with issues like deprivation, poverty, inequality, displacement, oppression, empowerment and most importantly, sustainable development. The civil society of Jalpaiguri must be seeking Ananda Chandra College to build a road map for furthering quality education. Being the Principal of the College, I am committed to that cause so that our institution becomes a centre of excellence and finds a place of pride in the firmament of higher learning. Finally, I convey my sincere gratitude and indebtedness to the members of the Brochure Committee who had very less time at its disposal to arrange the diverse pieces in order and complete the task within the stipulated deadline. Read on and know the College.

Dr. Md. Abdur Razzaque, Principal, A.C.College, Jalpaiguri From the Brochure Committee...... We are happy to bring before you all the Brochure of Ananda Chandra College, “Gyanodaya”. We also take humble pride in informing you that the horizon of this booklet goes beyond the confines of a prospectus. A genuine effort has been made to provide a link between past memories and present activities of the College. The purpose behind such vision is to make everyone aware of its glorious past while celebrating seventy-ninth year of excellence. We hope the nostalgia of past laid down in snippet forms will make us all feel proud to be associated with this institution and strengthen our will to guide it to great heights. We convey our sincere thanks to the Honourable President, Governing Body and Honourable Principal of the College for reposing faith in our ability as well as for allowing our whims and fancies in conceptualising the design and content of the Brochure. We also extend our gratitude to all those who have shared their cooperation in the preparation of the material. Special thanks go to Sri Gour Sundar Ghosh for his active involvement and Sri Partha Sarathi Lahiri, Clerk (Officiating) for his photography of the groups and departments. We cannot but take this opportunity to submit that the souvenirs published during the Silver Jubilee Celebration in 1967 and Golden Jubilee Celebration in 1992 were of invaluable help to us in recollecting and reliving some glorious moments of past. Finally, realising that there is always a scope for improvement, we take on us the responsibility for the limitations and mistakes committed inadvertently in shaping this Brochure. May our learning be luminous and purposeful. Thank You All.

The Journey ......

“...... And Miles to Go”

The untiring zeal of Late Debendra Kumar Chanda and

Late Tarani Mohan Chakraborty and financial magnanimity of

Late Nalini Kanta Rahut laid the foundation of ‘Ananda Chandra College’ in 1942 – the year witnessing the turmoil of

Second World War and Quit India Movement. However, the dream did not come true without hurdles. The first

Provisional Organizing Committee constituted for the purpose of affiliation was summarily rejected by the Late Ananda Chandra Rahut authorities of Calcutta University for non-compliance of rules. Before any measure could be taken for reconstitution, the noble intention of establishing a college faced malicious and false propaganda by some sections of people. Overcoming the unfortunate tide with great pains, a new Organizing Committee and a Working Committee was constituted. Finally, the much coveted affiliation for commencing I.A. (Intermediate in Arts) Courses in seven subjects and I.Sc. (Intermediate in Science) in Mathematics was granted by Calcutta University in the month of May, 1942. The Arts subjects were Bengali, English, Sanskrit, History, Civics, Logic and Arabic & Persian. Soon after, the first batch of seven teachers was appointed with Kshitish Chandra Dev as the Principal. 1st day of October, 1942 saw the commencement of class with 62 students in a small building on the land (nearly 4 bighas) donated by Rahut family in Race Course. The 1943-44 session saw affiliation in I.Sc. Course in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The efforts of the college authority now focused on extension of affiliation to B.A. standard. After much persuasion and fulfilling the requisite conditions, the College received formal recognition to commence B.A. classes in May, 1945. English, Bengali (Vernacular), Bengali (Classical), Sanskrit, Economics, History, Philosophy, Arabic & Persian became the first subjects to be alleviated to B.A. standard from 1945-46 session. However, B.A. class in Philosophy was introduced from the following session (1946-47). Another feather in the cap of the College in that session (1945-46) was securing Honours affiliation in two subjects – Economics and Bengali. The partition of the country brought with it the obvious consequence of refugee influx. The roll strength of the College abnormally rose to seven hundred. In order to meet the impending problem, the Working Committee of the College purchased the land and buildings belonging to ‘North Bengal Mounted Rifle Club’ in Race Course at a cost of Rs. 40,000/- and A.C.College in 1942 at Race Course also secured adjacent thirty-three bighas of land at a

‘We can draw lessons from the past, but we cannot live in it.’ 1 selamy of Rs. 17,000/-. A new College building was planned to be constructed here. Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, the then Chief Minister of kindly agreed to lay the foundation stone of the College on 29th day of April, 1949. Unfortunately, a sudden and an unprecedented demonstration and sloganeering at the venue site by some sections of people and students to protest against police firing on innocent marchers in Calcutta a few days ago turned the whole programme in utter chaos and fiasco. No one associated with the College ever predicted even in their Late Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy wild dreams that such incident would take place. Dr. B.C. Roy left the venue venting his disgust and without laying the foundation stone of the College. What an incalculable harm the protesting students did to the cause of higher education in the district! Not only the prestige of the College deteriorated, the financial condition, the roll strength of the students and the benevolent donations from affluent citizens and Tea Companies nosedived. Adding to the woes, the then Deputy Commissioner of Jalpaiguri, for reasons best known to him, withheld permission to construct any building on the Khasmahal lands – the site of the proposed building. It took almost another decade to revive the status and glory of Ananda Chandra College. The Governing Body of the College started their search for a new site. Finally, after prolonged sittings, a vast plot of vacant land (about 100 bighas) in front of the Maskalaibari Colony and standing on the Jalpaiguri-Siliguri high road was selected. A part of the land was procured from the Relief and Rehabilitation Department and the remaining portion from a number of Jotedars. The total cost of the land stood at Rs.75,000/-. It is this site where our present College exists. The great day arrived and the long wait was over. On Thursday, the 7th day of June, 1956 at 7.45 a.m., the then Governor of the State of West Bengal, Honourable Late Dr. H.C. Mukherjee laid the first stone of the edifice. The new College building was erected at a huge cost of nearly Rs. Six Lakhs and the government contributing more than half of the amount. The new building was inaugurated by Late Dr. Bidhan

Dr. H.C.Mukherjee, Governor of West Bengal going to lay the Chandra Roy, the then Honourable Foundation Stone of the College accompanied by Chief Minister of West Bengal (what a I.B.Majumdar, Principal; Kamini Kanta Rahut, Secretary; and B.C.Ghosh, Vice-President (from left) destiny!) on the 28th day of September, 07.06.1956 1958. The College got shifted to the new premises in July, 1959.

“It is in experiencing and accepting the pain of defeat that we may truly acknowledge the joy of victory.” 2 The history of Ananda Chandra College in its new premises has been the story of continued progress, expansion and unflinching dedication of all its stakeholders to establish it as a centre of excellence. Over the decades, it has remained in the forefront of all the colleges of North Bengal in size and performance. The College came under the

A.C.College in 1967 Government Sponsored scheme from session 1956 - 57. Among many other things, this meant direct government control and guidance, thereby limiting the role of individual initiative. Thereafter, it has been managed by a Governing Body under the direct control of Directorate of Public Instructions, Government of West Bengal. It received recognition by the University Grants Commission under category 2(f) and 12(B) of UGC Act in the month of April, 1956. It secured us the eligibility for getting generous financial assistance. After being affiliated to Calcutta University for a long twenty years, it got affiliated to the newly established University of North Bengal in 1962. After incessant perseverance, dedication and hard work by the Principals, Teaching staff, Administrative staff and the students alike, the College secured B++ Accreditation (First Cycle) by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) on 16.09.2004. It truly enhanced the prestige of the institution. Another point to rejoice is the recognition and permission by National Council for Technical Education (NCTE) on 04.05.2009 to run B.P.Ed. Course under Department of Physical Education. The institution witnessed a subdued moment of happiness when, despite great efforts by all, it could not increase its grade in the Second Cycle of Assessment by NAAC Peer Team in September, 2016. It was accredited with B++ once again on 05.11.2016. May be we, somehow, failed to live up to the expectations of the Peer Team who visited our College. However, it did not deter us. Rather, it helped strengthen our pledge to fight back and make a place for our College at the zenith of higher learning. This college presently accommodates nearly four thousand students. It is successfully running 20 academic departments comprising of 9 Science subjects and 11 subjects in the category of humanities and social sciences. Besides, it also carries on self finance courses Microbiology (B.Sc.); Mass Communication & Journalism (PG) and Bengali (PG). Moreover, the College has Study Centres of Netaji Subhas Open University (NSOU) and Burdwan University (Distance Education Mode) to cater to the academic needs of those students who are unable to admit themselves in the regular Course. Late Kshitish Chandra Dev Academic accomplishment of our students First Principal of A.C.College over the years in different subjects has provided 1942-44 us with a deep sense of satisfaction indescribable

“You are never a loser until you quit trying.” 3 in words. The University results of our students have been outstanding during last few years. Many of them have earned high laurels and have occupied places of distinctions in schools, colleges and universities as teachers. Many became famous as successful writers, essayists and journalists. Many have pursued distinguished careers in different fields. A few have successfully entered into the political arena and a few have created their mark as a reputed player. In a nutshell, the College has produced great teachers, scientists, administrators, legal luminaries, political functionaries and bright professionals over the years. The College truly misses the faces of all its students – honoured and unsung alike. The Alumni Association of the College is taking great pains to act as a bridge between the past and the present. It may be mentioned that we have excelled in co-curricular activities, too. One feels enchanted to learn that the Sports Board, University of North Bengal has selected our College “Champion of Champions” for the Sports Calendar Year 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-2012 and 2012- 2013 on the basis of our performances. Besides, cadets of NCC battalions and student members of NSS units of our College are ably trained to take up various social welfare activities. The students, in general, and the Students’ Union, in particular must be credited for observing important days, holding of annual sports, celebrating annual social and engaging in various welfare activities. Presently, one hundred and twenty-six odd members of the teaching faculty (day and morning sections) bear untiring penchant for innovation in both teaching-learning methods and research activities. It is worth mentioning that we have enviable record of participation as well as organization of conferences, seminars, workshops and lecture sessions on a regular basis. The feather in the cap remains the hosting of ‘1st Regional Science and Technology Congress’ in the month of November, 2016. The newly constructed Seminar cum Conference Hall has been a boon in this regard. Besides, publishing original pieces in reputed journals has been a frequent phenomenon. Further, several of our esteemed teachers have minor and major projects to their credit. We also take delight in announcing that the College has a nodal centre of ‘Child Line India’ which works to rescue and protect the deprived children in North Bengal. One cannot forget the contribution of members of non-teaching staff, in general, and ministerial staff, in particular, of the College in its uplift. They have proved themselves to be the backbone and vital support for ameliorating intellectual excellence of the College. No doubt, the successes of the College mentioned above are our strength despite certain infrastructural and personnel limitations. Notwithstanding, we have ample opportunities to improve upon it. Our future course of action include among others improving central and departmental libraries; improving infrastructure for games and sports; making College campus more eco-friendly; introducing post graduate courses in more subjects; introducing inter disciplinary research centre; extending ICT facilities to the students; encouraging faculty exchange programme; introducing web-based student evaluation system; introducing computerized data management system; and enhancing scope of campus placement. Finally, we remember and dedicate this Brochure to all those who have been part of this College once upon a time but have left us for the heavenly abode. May all of their souls rest in peace. Long Live Ananda Chandra College!

FIVE Students...... “...... The Fulcrum” I. Students’ Union of the College...... “...... Harbinger of Students’ Welfare”

Then – It was encouragement from the teachers like Narayan Gangopadhyay, Kalyan Bandopadhyay, Kalyan Chakraborty, Birendra Lahiri and Amalendu Bagchi among others that led to the constitution of ‘Students’ Union’ of the College in the year 1943. Chitta Mitra was selected as the first General Secretary of the Students’ Union. The first ever activity of the Union was celebration of ‘Saraswat Sammelan’ in ealy 1944. On this occasion, the students staged their first drama in the College – “Bandini” – written none other than our own Professor in Bengali, Narayan Gangopadhyay. The first ever election to the Students’ Union was held in the year 1944 and Reliving the Past......

Ramapada Moitra was elected the General Words of Lament by Secretary. The first ‘Foundation Day’ of the Sujit Kumar Bhattacharya College was organised by the Union on 2nd day Editor, Souvenir, of September, 1944. The Chief Guest on the Golden Jubilee Celebration, 1942-1992 “We are living in a time when men are all occasion was Promotha Bandopadhyay, scientific, mechanical and modern...... He (man) Principal of Calcutta Law College. Once again, is always in a hurry. He is always on the run. Narayan Gangopadhyay’s scripted “Sesh Then, Television is yet another factor. Porjonto” was staged...... Depositing the whole brain to the T.V., man It may be mentioned that staging drama has become free from all the tortuous ‘mediaeval’ human links and loyalties. So, what was an integral part of the activities of the does it matter if Ananda Chandra College turns Students’ Union on any important occasion 50! Unfortunately, all the contemporary men are like ‘Priti Sammelan’ (Social Ceremony), not uniformly modern and so some ‘Ancient’ rites Foundation Day celebration, and the like. are to be performed. As a result, ...... we have ‘Sesh Raksha’, ‘Chhayapath’, ‘Rama’, ‘Pandit to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the College...... So, came and went the Golden Masai’, Raja O Rani’, ‘Mouchake Dheel’, Jubilee of the College.” ‘Alamgir’ and many more dramas were staged. Not only in Bengali, dramas were also staged in English. The first one was ‘Merchant of Venice’ in 1952 followed by ‘Othello’ and ‘Arms and the Man’. These, of course, were the activities of the bygone era. One cannot help but lament at the loss of this cultural heritage of our College in due course of time. One can hope that the present and future Unions of the College will celebrate occasions tinged with our cultural heritage. Now – The members of the Students’ Unions over the years have been quite active in various activities of College life. The Unions have been regularly organising Freshers’ Welcome, Annual Social Programme, Annual Sports, Saraswati Puja, Foundation Day, Independence Day, Republic Day, World Environment Day, Teachers’ day, and the like. They have proved themselves on many occasions that they are intended to help students in developing their social and intellectual qualities.

“Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education” 18

The elections to the Students’ Union of the College are held regularly in a democratic, free and fair manner. The present Students’ Union of the College comprises of 48 Class Representatives and 21 Office Bearers, the latter being selected from among the Class Representatives. The Principal of the College acts as the ex-officio President of the Union. The caretaker Students’ Union of session 2019-2020 has played an instrumental role in co- curricular activities of the College. It held ‘Tree Plantation Program on 5th June, 2019 and ‘Blood Donation Camp’ on 28th August, 2019. It organized ‘Nobin Boron Program’ for the new admitted students on 16th September, 2019. It celebrated ‘Saraswati Puja’ with great fervour and organized ‘Inter-Department Cricket Tournament’ in the month of February, 2020. Besides, the students of the College enjoyed a lot the scintillating ‘Annual Social Program’. The students of our College provided honour to the College when they became champions in ‘Inter-College Cricket Tournament’; ‘Inter-College Badminton Tournament’; and ‘Inter-College Athletic Meet (both men and women)’ in session 2019-2020 organized by Sports Board, University of North Bengal. Last but not the least, the students of our College filled all of us with a sense of great pride when they devoted themselves during the ongoing unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic. They actively involved themselves in creating awareness among the common populace, sanitizing various areas of Jalpaiguri, distributing sanitizers and above all, distributing food items to the underprivileged section of society.

II. Students’ Hostel...... “...... Friendship is the Best Healing Therapy”

Then – In the meeting of the Working Committee on 15th September, 1944, decision was taken to start a Hostel at a rented house to meet the growing demands of the students. As a result, a Boys’ Hostel got started in a rented house (to be called Hostel Number 1 afterwards) from 19 “What is a friend? A single soul dwelling in two bodies.”

1945-46 session. Rai Bhadur Bipulendra Nath Banerjee formally opened it. Prof. Amalendu Bagchi became the first Warden of the Hostel and Dr. Haren Hoar, the first Medical Officer. Next session (1946-47) saw the opening up of another Hostel (Hostel Number 2) in a rented house. Due to growing demand for accommodation in the aftermath of partition, the third Hostel (Hostel Number 3) started by converting the Mess House of ‘North Bengal Mounted Rifle Club’ which was purchased. By the end of 1947, the three Hostels were accommodating as many as 125 students. However, in session 1951-52 , Hostel Number 1 and 2 were abolished due to sudden dwindling of students’ roll of strength. Finally, in 1961, the Hostel was shifted to the present site of the College. Now – The ‘Boys’ Hostel’ is now a two-storey building and can accommodate 80 outstation male students of the College. One more new Hostel near the old one has been functioning from the session 2016-2017. The College also boasts to have a modern three-storey ‘Girls’ Hostel with a capacity for accommodating 110 female students. The Hostels are under Residential Superintendants who are the teachers of the College.

III. College Canteen...... “...... Three Years of Priceless Hanging Out”

Being an integral part of the College life, the history of College Canteen of Ananda Chandra College has been a chequered one. The functioning of the Canteen has been interrupted on few occasions primarily on the grounds of financial infeasibility raised by the proprietors. Notwithstanding, the present Canteen has been running successfully and uninterruptedly since

“Your attendance percentage in the College Canteen must not be greater than the attendance percentage in the Classroom.” 20

January, 2013. M/s Sanjib Bhowmick has been authorised to run it. The College Canteen has a carpet area of 60’X16’. In order that hygiene is maintained, members of Canteen Committee make surprise visits to the Canteen and also carries out periodical surveys of students on their opinion regarding food quality, physical ambience, behaviour of staff, etc. For any suggestion, contact Dr. Chinmayakar Das, Co-ordinator, Canteen Committee or mail him at College Canteen [email protected]

Ananda Chandra College is proud to have banking services within its campus facilitated by Indian Overseas Bank. It was established in July, 2005 as an Extension Counter and was upgraded to full fledged CBS Branch in 2011. This leading Nationalized Bank is a great support to all stakeholders of the College as it offers various services like Internet Banking, Mobile Banking, Mobile Passbook, UPI, ATM

Indian Overseas Bank facility and loan services with emphasis on educational loan.

V. National Cadet Corps (NCC)...... “...... Unity and Discipline”

Then – National Cadet Corps (NCC) is the biggest youth organization of world. It was established in 1949 on the recommendation of the Justice Kunjru Committee to make youth of the country disciplined and patriotic citizens. Its motto, ‘Unity and Discipline’ was adopted on 23rd December, 1957. The first effort to introduce NCC training in our College under the stewardship of 2/Lt. B. Das Shastri could not run NCC Office due to some unavoidable circumstances and it was suspended in the year 1950. It revived again in 1955. With the proclamation of national emergency in 1962 due to Chinese aggression, NCC in our College was expanded to respond to the nation’s call. It was divided into two wings – (i) NCC (Three Companies) and (ii) NCCR (One Company). With the end of the war, NCCR was abolished in 1964. Though not recorded but it is

“Courage is not absence of fear but the acquired ability to move beyond fear.” 21 heard that NCC of our College was ‘third line of defence’ during this war and later on during Banglash War as well as it was active in rescue operations during floods of 1968, 1990 and 1998. NCC of yesteryears has fine records to its credit. To mention a few, we were honoured with ‘Best Unit’ in “Social Services Camp” at Bolpur in 1957; ‘Best Line-Dresser’ in “Annual Training Camp” at Dharampur in 1962.

Now – At present, NCC sub-units of A.C.College OUR ACHIEVEMENTS IN NCC is under 61 Bengal BN NCC with Darjeeling Group of West Bengal and Sikkim Directorate. It has two Coys 1. VI. National Service Scheme (NSS)......

“...... Not Me But You”

National Service Scheme (NSS) was launched on 2nd day of October, 1969 under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports with primary focus on the development of personality of students through community service. The activities of NSS include National Integration Camp, blood donation camps, plantation, immunisation, shramdan, NSS Office disaster management and adventure programmes.

“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” 22

In our College, there are two units of NSS. Both the units are actively engaged in different kinds of social activities. It may be noted that students taking Physical Education as a subject, participation in NSS is compulsory. Other students interested in joining NSS may contact the respective Programme Officers of NSS Units. It is worthwhile to mention that way back in 2016 on the occasion of World Environment Day, NSS-II under Dr. Sujit Ghosh planted 217 varieties of Sal, Meghini and other trees which have now turned into beautiful trees. At present, NSS Unit-I and NSS Unit-II run under the supervision of Programme Officers Dr. Tanmay Datta, Department of Zoology and Dr. Bipul Chandra Sarkar, Department of Geography respectively. Session 2019-2020 saw several social welfare activities organized by both the Units either jointly or separately. Jointly, both the Units organized ‘Special Health Camp’ (16.02.2019) at Karala Valley Tea Garden; ‘Tree Plantation Program (05.08.2019) in the College Campus; ‘Free Eye Examination Camp’ (13.08.2019) in the College Campus; and ‘Cleaning Drive’ (30.11.2019) in the College Campus. It is commendable work of NSS Unit-I when it conducted a seven day long ‘Swachha Bharat Internship Camp’ from 24th July to 30th July, 2019 where students were provided on ground training regarding organization of social welfare activities and awareness camps. Special credit goes to NSS Unit-II which displayed exemplary example when it organized ‘Relief Distribution Camp’ on 18.04.2020 where food items were distributed to underprivileged section of society.

Ministerial Staff and other Non-teaching Staff......

“ ...... The Backbone”

Non-teaching staff including ministerial staff form the fourth pillar of any educational institution along with the Governing Body, Teachers’ Council and Students’ Union. They are the vital cog in the wheel. Without their active assistance, the whole institution may possibly get paralysed. Our College is proud to have such committed staff not only because they provide assistance to teachers and students but because they also take active participation in all the academic programmes and co- curricular activities of the College. It is indeed unique that every year, Students’ Union organises a cricket match between the Non-Teaching and Teaching Staff of the College. The following table details out their names, qualifications and designations (this excludes the names of Computer Programmer, Laboratory Assistants and Library Staff which are laid down in Chapters on ‘Departments’ and ‘Central Library’) MINISTERIAL STAFF DAY SECTION MORNING SECTION Name Qualifi Designation Name Qualifi Designation cation cation Sri Shyamal Kumar B.Com Head Clerk Sri Niladri Maitra B.Com Head Clerk (Acting) Biswas . . ANANDA CHANDRA COLLEGE TRULY MISSES YOU ALL The College has been adorned with luminaries and dedicated staff since its inception in 1942. It is always painful whenever any teacher or staff of the College bids farewell to it. However, it is inevitable and inescapable and we have no other choice but to accept it with a smile. The College will always remember their utmost dedication towards it and wish them all a very happy and healthy life. Last two academic sessions saw seven of our beloved colleagues leaving us either to join another College or having attained superannuation. They are Sri Debesh Chandra Dey (Office Attendant, Day Section), Smt. Putul Bose (Lady Attendant, Morning Section), Smt. Rita Som Paul (Dept. of Botany) , Sri Manas Paul (Dept. of Geography), Sri Arknil Das (Dept. of English), Smt. Suparna Kundu Chaterjee (Dept. of Bengali) and Smt. Nibedita Guha (Dept. of Bengali). Through this Brochure, the College extends its gratitude to them for their service.

Memories Shared by Some of Our Recent Erstwhile Collegues

“I had joined Ananda Chandra College, Jalpaiguri on 30.01.2004.I had an enriching experience working as Lecturer and later as Assistant Professor in Botany and finally as Associate Professor till I got a transfer to on 01.04.2019. I will always cherish the 15 years of homely and comfortable atmosphere.” ...... Smt. Rita Som Paul ______“It was a scorching day of March (01.03.2015) when I initiated my journey from Malda to Jalpaiguri for my new workplace, Ananda Chandra College. As Jalpaiguri welcomed me with a cool and pleasurable weather, this esteemed institution also greeted me gladly with its greenery and received me with such a warmth of affection that instantly it became my most comfortable workspace. Eventually my colleagues became my ‘Dada’s and ‘Didi’s, a part of my family and the institution became my home away from home. In the department of English, Sangita di manoeuvred my enthusiasm to get the best possible teaching-learning environment. And last but not the least, the students showered on me an over-bouncing flow of love and laurels much much more than I deserve. The Platinum Jubilee celebration of the institution is one of the most memorable event happened during my incumbency there. But nothing is perpetual in our transitory existence. On another day of March (26.03.2019), my four years journey in this college came to an end. Though I cannot completely control what people remember and what they don’t,, I tried to create experiences both personally and professionally that will be remembered positively by others. And my experiences in A. C. College are embedded in my consciousness and memory like ‘a thing of beauty’ that always brings me ‘a joy forever’ and now those memories are stronger than the experience itself. Thank you all for the gift of experiencing something so beautiful that I’ll remember forever.” ...... Sri Arknil Das ______
